“Darul a man”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

Must have been a decadent place to live when orginally built. Of course the thirty years of war have not been kind to the place.
Had all the amenities known to man when built.

“Very rundown, but worth a visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

If the security situation allows you to visit, you might find this palace interesting from an historical standpoint, considering all it's been through. But there's really not that much to see inside. It does, however, make for some great photos, especially of its highly damaged exterior. You might also find the nearby Queen's Palace interesting; however, there's also not much to see inside besides a lot of rubble. While some of its walls have retained their original decorative elements, graffiti (presumably Afghan) is rampant therein. Be careful not to fall through the gaping holes in the floor (which are not marked). I don't believe there's supposed to be a charge to enter, though you might find it helpful to offer the guards a little money or some bottled water to get in. When it's not smoggy (as it often is), you have some great views of the city and surrounding areas from the Queen's Palace and from the nearby former Russian Officers' Club.

“Darul Aman Palace”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2012

Was once a very impressive building sadly destroyed during Afghan civil war of the early 90's. You can't go inside as it is unsafe but if you are in Kabul it is well worth a visit, you can also see the remains of the impressive royal gardens in the surrounding area. It is quite accessible from central Kabul, straight down Darul Aman Road, well worth the drive if your security detail aren't to anal.

“It's impressing but it's over in five”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

It's an impressing place but it's all the same and you can more or less just see it from the car instead of going in. The history behind the palace is more interesting than the actual palace. If you are going to Kabul i would recommend it as one of the few places to visit.

“A palace graveyard”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2012

Interesting to drive around, step out for a minute and take some photos. It doesn't take long to get up there, but it's out of the way as the Kabul layout goes. You'll have to make an intentional visit, not one to stumble upon. It's easy to imagine the splendor of what this palace once was.
