“Wonderful hotel and resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2010

Just arrived back from the Windmill Bay. Argassi has one main road with another just off it. The Windmill bay is at the end of the main road and therefore nice and quiet. Just 5/8 mins walk to bars and restaurants. We are family with 2 girls aged 9 and 6. Would recommend you bring snorkels, masks/goggles and some sort of sea/sand shoe for children as beach stoney. It has a few sandy bits and once into the sea is nearly all sand. Plenty of sunbeds even for the 4 of us together. About 5 steps down to the stoney beach and into the shallow, warm sea. Our girls spent half their time in the pool and the rest in the sea - we could see them clearly from the sun beds. They enjoyed snorkelling as there are plenty of small fish etc to see. Lots of shops sell inflatable rings etc for only 4 or 5 euros which were good fun in the sea and the pool. Receptionist at hotel is lovely - even let us stay in our room on the last day until 5pm without charge, because of our later flight and no one booked in. We didnt really use the poolside bar because cheaper to get own drinks from fridge - several little supermarkets nearby. Maids came most days to make beds and change towels. Very spacious rooms with plenty of storage. Basic kitchen with microwave, hob, fridge etc. We didnt use safety deposit box or air con as both extra (I think air con was 60 euros but cool enough on a night) We were only there for one week so didnt really do much sight seeing. We went to the aqua park which was 18 euros for adults and 13 for children and quiet with no queues for slides - Peters travel in Argassi does a free bus service to it - but be warned food inside very expensive about 8 euros for kids meal. We took picnic in but you have to be discreet because signs say you are not to bring food in. We did not book transfers from airport as travel company wanted £20 each (total £80) - taxis only cost about 14/15 euro each way. Would recommend Zorbas restaurant - their moussaka is fab. There are 2 mini golfs - one based on world landmarks which charged 18 euros for one round for the four of us whereas the one behind the bar on the main road was 20 euros but that included a drink each (wine/beer/coke) and was lovely in the dark as it is all lit up. Take some anti mosquito spray/lemon soap as we got a couple of bites. Hope you have a great time!

This hotel had spacious rooms, simple decor but great balcony and view of the sea. The rooms could of been cleaned a little more but were by no means dirty. The staff were fairly friendly ( though more so to people who spend all their ime at the pool side bar we found), The pool was lovely and there were lots of sun beds. The only down sides were we found the staff a little abrupt at times, the pool table costs 1.50 a go and the safe is 25 euros non refundable.
Argassi is just a little resort with a strip of restraunts and tourist shops, its very quiet in may, places are just opening but we didnt have to que anywhere which was cool. There was only a very very tiny beach there though so you'll have to get a taxi to sun bathe on the sand. The only downside is you have to get taxis as the tourist bus doesnt run until the last week of may and taxis are around 10- 14 euros, its worth haggling.. We visited lots of lovely places -St nicholas's beach prob my fave, there is also blue cave visits and turtle spotting activities. One hint i would give you if you do visit in may , is dont get on the fun train with greek children, its horrendus- you'd have to experience it to understand, basically the kids get on on the return journey from Zante town for a ten minute journey of the town's churches but the bus drops them off at the place you get anyway so I'd advise just waiting for them to return before getting on the train.
Also if you go on the coach trip, they drop you off at a restraunt on the mountains we went to the restraunt next door it was only 2 euros for lunch and great view and service, its called Anastasias tavern.
The only other things I'd mention are that Argassi is surrounded by mountains, which are beautiful and bring lots of lovely birds to the area and not so lovely huge beetles. The roads around the hotel are a little crazy, everyone drives madly at Argassi so you have to be a little careful and lastly you can get a lovely evening meal and few glasses of wine for 10 euros pretty much anywhere in Argassi.

This hotel is perfect for everyone, if you have a family then you will find the rooms have the perfect amount of space for you. For just me and my partner we had the kitchen with two cooking rings, fridge, microwave and running water (not drinkable) there was also plenty of plates to use and cutlery, then on the end of the kitchen was the very spacious bathroom with a bath/shower. Our bedroom was very nice with a large glass door looking onto the sea and next to our bedroom was our lounge which can also be used as a seccond bedroom if needed. The maid was very friendly, if you happen to be in the room when she comes to clean your room she will ask you permition to enter the room. We had fresh towles every three days and if we had any problems then the receptionist would help us to the best of her ability.
The local area is very nice even though the season was over and a lot of places were closing and had already closed. The resturants are all reasonably priced, one night my partner and me had a three course meal and it only came to €25 including drinks. The best place to eat if you want to enjoy traditional Greek food would be 'Carissimo' ontop of the quallity food the staff are all very friendly.
If you choose to stay at the Windmill Bay Apart-Hotel then you will have the best Holiday in Argassi.

Really enjoyed my stay in Windmill Bay. Lovely clean apt. All Apts have a sea view. No real beach to speak of, but the sun loungers are right beside the sea, and a quick 7-8 steps will have you in crystal blue bath warm water. Bar serves food till late and is run by Cristina from England and Maria, both very nice people. The sister apartments Windmill.... (can't rem full name) are 5 min walk away and run a really good greek night. Think we payed €12 each. The food was fantastic and plentyful. The staff are excellent and most helpful. Liked the area too. Plenty of very good restaurants, my favourite was Papillion. Not a hectic resort like Laganas......thankfully. Laganas is a dumpm with a nasty horrible dirty beach. Avoid at all costs unless you are looking for wild nights out. Also avoid the larger boat trips, we did one that included a trip to Shipwreck cove, the blue caves and a little village by the sea. It was the trip from hell. Rotten, and cramped with an obnoxious tour guide. Take a small boat trip from one of the villages near the blue caves and then you can snorkle and really enjoy the caves. (no snorkelling off the big boats). Overall would highly recommend Zante. The Windmill BAy hotel was a joy to stay in, after having holidayed in unfortunately sub standard accomodation before. Am planning to go back next year but for two weeks instead of one.

I went to the windmill bay with my husband and 2 children aged 12 + 14. We had a great holiday and didnt want to come home.
The windmill bay is a lovely hotel and the staff are all great and really friendly, Effie and Christina were really helpfull and friendly.
Our apartment was on the ground next to the bar so it wa great for the kids with the pool and the lilos etc.
we had breakfast there every morning and it was really nice. The food places we loved were deffinately Zorbas the food and the staff was really good The green frog was good aswell and we had lunch there a few times.
Argasi itself is a lovely place and there are loads of shops. another place we liked was called 24/7 and the man was really nice with us and even helped the kids with their greek words. The beer acadamy was good and legends was at night time but i wouldnt eat there again as i was really ill after we did.
The windmill bay was set in a lovely location and right on the beach. There wasnt any sand on that strtetch but that was ok as the sea was so shallow and warm so we sat on the beds to sunbathe and then went straight in the sea to cool down :lovely: the pool there was good as well and never got too crowded there was always plenty of room and sun beds.
As the beach in Argasi wasnt that great (though there were watrsports) we went to st nicholas beach for the day there is a free bus that takes you and picks you up this was great nd that bach was lovely.
zante town is a nice place as is tsilivi.
i would definately recommend this hotel to any one .
if you are going have a lovely time
we dont go back to the same place twice but if e did we would go there again

I have nothing to complain. Thanks to the kindness of Jenny and the other lady (whose name - sorry - I don't remember) we had a corner room and the views were incredibly - the sea (very close), the relaxing sound of the waves, the violet sunset over the lights of Zante town... We felt like being integrated in the nature, feeling even the wind through the balcony door (that we kept opened all the time). The room (apartment) was spacious, bright, nice decorated, comfortable and clean. We didn't have any problem with the changing of the towels and cleaning; we left on the floor the towels that we needed to be changed and anyway the maid observed that our children made dirt (sand etc.) and cleaned the floor almost daily. They don't wash your dishes but that seems correct to me. The pool is very nice but we prefer the sea - that, in Zakynthos, is extraordinary! We happily changed the sand beaches with the rocks. And in the last day, when we bathe in front of the hotel (being tired of our many and long daily trips) we found out that it is very good for snorkelig! Many fishes, maybe the most varied fishes we saw (swimming also at Agios Sostis, Kery Caves, Marathonisi, Blue Caves, Navagio, Makri Gialos, Xigia, Porto Limnionas, Cape Marathia, Gerakas etc. - I strongly recommend all these locations). We found the "organized" boats and trips unpleasant (they take you away from any place in a very short time, I left the turquoise water of Navagio almost crying) and explored the south part of the island by our own (hired) boat, from Limni Keri. It is much, much better! You can stop anywhere you want, at beaches and rocks that can't be reached by road.
We also found excellent the location of the hotel - in Argassi (near Zante town), because from here you are not too far to any point of the island. We didn't like eating in Argassi (no tavern by the sea) but recommend: Poseidon in Limni Keri, Andreas fish tavern in Kipseli and Xigia near Xigia beach, with good food and panorama...
10 days were not enough to explore the major points of interest of the island. Maybe nothing is perfect (except God) but this holiday was almost perfect!

I read so many good reviews about WB, but I reckon we pulled the short straw this time! I would definitely go back though, and I would surely recommend it, purely for it's location, hotel setting, pool/bar, cost; it was excellent. I just felt our room was 'manky' and needed a good 'oul scrub, and contrary to other reviews, which I've just read, we didn't get towels or dishes cleaned everyday, only got towels three times in a week and dishes only washed twice. I found Effe helpful, but gritting her teeth as she was doing it, and on one occasion she was dismissive, not allowing my husband to finish his question before speaking over him and pointing to where he was meant to go. Argassi is a lovely little spot, perfect for all ages I think. Not as many 'fantastic' restaurants as I'd hoped for, but Zorbas, Chin-Indian in Argassi and Spartakos fish restaurant in Zante town (Zakynthos) were really lovely to eat in, and The Red Lion and Avalon brilliant to drink at, esp Avalon. I would recommend Turtle Trips, and the Olympia Trip, if you get Costa the Tour Guide you'll cringe at him at first, and then you'll feel like you've lost your puppy when he goes at the end of the day. I loved the caves, altho found the Keri ones more interesting and 'blue' than the actual Blue ones. Do the cruise, but bear in mind the food is more expensive than Irish prices on board! Tour Operators opposite the Zorbas restaurant area are nice, and if you turn up the street by Magic Mushrooms, at main crossroads, there is a tour place on the left, v nice, in fact, I'm nearly sure our Thomas Cook rep didn't offer the day cruise so we went with them and apart from waiting for our bus for a while on way home from Olympia, they were very good. Would definitely recommend for weeks getaway.
