Good clean basic accommodation, you get what you pay for! Drinks in the bar are very reasonably priced snacks quite acceptable. Yes its on a hill I am 62 and had no problems with the steps or the climb up the hill. After all the clue is in the name. A good tip is to take a torch for the evening walk home and a travel kettle for your morning cuppa. Walk ten minutes away from Argassi and there is a cliff path down to a small beach which on most days we had to ourselves. Great for sunbathing and snorkelling. All in all a great holiday and would definitely return to Argassi and the Ionian Hills.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are super we got ours when we booked inland view but were given sea view

We have just returned from the Ionian Hill apartments and we had a really great time. Yes it is basic Greek accommodation but that's what we paid for. We did find the walk into town tiring but you acclimatise after a couple of days , it does get easier when you are doing it twice a day. The staff and owners were very helpful. The best thing here is the pool and the view it is lovely.
We got what we paid for and we read all the reviews so the hill walk was not a surprise all in all I would recommend this hotel for a holiday on Zakynthos.

Room Tip: There are no kettles in the rooms when we stayed so we took a travel kettle (£9.99 on Amazon) I woul...

My wife & i stayed in this hotel in July & we both enjoyed ourselves in the hotel & Argassi. FIRST the hotel, clean & basic. If you have been to Greece before then you will know what i am talking about.NO problems with the staff. The pool area is good and they have a nice area where you can sit & eat. The hotel also has a fantastic view as well. Our only real problem was the hill that the hotel stands on. It is steep! I am 30 & a bodybuilder & this was the last thing i needed at the end of the day to walk back to the hotel. After a few drinks in the bars & then to walk back in the pitch dark for 15/20 mins up a dark, dangerous greek road with your loved one, NO WAY. So you either high a car or after drinking at night get a taxi back each time.If you have children the hotel is not for you because of this.Argassi is for families & couples, not a lads holiday.

Room Tip: Don,t stay on the ground floor if possible. The far right room if looking at the hotel is to close t...

We got a last minute deal and paid a very cheap price for this holiday. We had read various reviews online and were aware of the basic accomodation and walk into town before we set off. We were told we would have an inland view and got a sea view which was absolutely fabulous but the accomodation is VERY basic. We dont usually do any cooking in self catering, but if you do then this apartment is not for you. I can also agree with the other reviews that the bathroom is very dangerous as no matter what you do with the shower curtain the bathroom floor gets wet and slipery. The walk into the resort is about 15 minutes but for the first 10 minutes there is no footpath so you do need to have your wits about you.

We loved the resport of Argassi such a friendly place with many nice places to eat and drink, but if you are beach lovers then this is not the resort for you because its very small and sand/shingle.

All in all we had a great holiday and Ionion Hill was fine for the money we paid, but would not be worth any more than that. Next visit we would probably look to stay somewhere else unless we got another bargain!

Our holiday started by coach transfer looking at all nice hotels in and around argassi, then we pulled up outside the Ionian Hill Studios, the coach could not make it up the hill so we were dropped off at the bottom. We then lugged our cases up a steep hill. The room was terrible, cramped no cooking facilities except a 1 ring table top contraption, the electrics were awful, bare cables poking out of the walls, when we asked to move on several occassions we were told there was no where to move to. The AC is 8 euros per night over a week coming in at nearly 60 euros!! Dont get fooled by the photos your nowhere near the beach despite having it in the background of the photo in the brochure, your so high up it might as well be the atlantic ocean not the mediterranean. To leave and walk into town is about a 20 minute walk, and coming back your faced with a 69 step steep incline. There is a nightclub yards away from the studios which on a saturday plays loud music until 6am. Your also kicked out of your room at 12 on the day of departure and if like us your on a night flight this means you have 14/15 hours without a room. They will miracously find you a room for between 40 and 50 euros. I would go back to argassi again as it is a nice place with excellent people but I would NEVER stay here ever again BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE

Ionian Hill Studios/Apartments Including the local area Listed in how I found this holiday.

Location –
This small self catering apartment/studio is situated upon an elevated point with stunning views of Zante town which overlooks a great sunset & beautiful blue ocean. About a 15-20 minute walk away is the small compact town of Argassi with a vast amount of places to eat, mini-markets to buy groceries, suntan lotion & anything else you would expect. There is a VERY SMALL beach with rippling calm waters; however this is not the best of beaches the island has to offer. (See overall at bottom of review for my best beach experience). You can also book day trips or hire a moped, car or Quad bike, so take your licence with you as this is a great way to see what the small Island has to offer.
Just outside the apartment entrance(s) is a busy main road, please take extra care as this has no paths to walk upon and the traffic is really hairy around the corners, so not ideal if walking late at night as parts are not lit well. Heading out from the Ionian Hill Studios is not really suitable for people who are unsteady on their feet as the slopes have pot holes or if you wish the take the challenge of the 69 Steps.

Hotel Surroundings –
Even though we had booked an inland view room, we were happy to be placed in the room facing the pool with stunning views. It wasn’t very busy when we arrived which was heaven. It seemed that there was just a handful of guests staying (Sept 2011) so it wasn’t overcrowded which was a bonus for this time of the year.
There is a large pool with a kiddies pool off to the side, plenty of hard plastic sunbeds to use and a bar area to buy a drink or a snack. Although the Pool was nice, I was put off by the amount of Algae growing on the sides and in-between the tiles, however we hadn’t witnessed the staff clean the pool, but did see them place liquids in the pool late at night, which I hope was pool chemicals.
The Ionian Hill has 2 entrances one with the 69 steps and a really steep poorly maintained slope & the other side a less steeper slope, both leading to the manic main road. Off to one side from the main block there was a new block containing 4 rooms, which were very nice inside, this had a path which was very dusty and full of stones & not of the best of views to be honest. The grounds were flushed with trees and bushes, which did block out some of the noise from the bar/club directly opposite on the main road; this was banging out music till at least 5am. This seemed to be Friday & Saturday Evenings. This was overcome by being on the ground floor and having the doors closed with the Air con on.

Reception –
The reception had a lovely entrance leading from the shorter slope and ample space to park free of charge your hire car/bikes etc. This was a pleasant view when first arrived. The reception desk is unmanned and not used in the front part of the apartments. There is a bank of safety deposit boxes (charged locally) for use to safely stow your passports etc, but not very deep to store your SLR camera, in this in the unused reception area! The Mgr/owners seem to use the pool bar around the back as a reception instead, but didn’t see any signs to guide you when you first arrive. Our rep showed us to the room and left us to settle in; the owner/manager/ess did not introduce themselves, this I found a little odd that they didn’t interact with us to promote their complex, hoping for extra sales or repeat visit for following years.

Wi-Fi Areas –
None Available at the hotel which was a shame, the nearest is the bars or restaurants down the main road.

Rooms –
The room we were allocated was a nice size leading to an open balcony with a table and chairs overlooking the ocean and Zante town. This room had 2 single wooden beds with sheets/pillow and a blanket in the wardrobe if needed. Air con is available at a price of €55 per week (paid locally).
What was included for the self catering is plates, knives etc and fridge, electric 2 ring hotplate & and a sink which if you were wishing to master up a great meal, then think again.
Oh dear the bathroom! Let’s say a possible potential hazard, this room was so tiny with a shower tray area so small that it seemed impossible to shower safely without slipping and soaking everything insight (Tip – Remove the toilet roll & towel from the room before showering). Exposed wiring was on display to the light fitting right next to the shower area. The shower tray had sharp tiles around the edge, so care is needed when using. The Studios - new block of apartments had a great bathroom and a nice shower area, so if you get one of these they are so much better. Overall the bathroom was grubby and needs replacing.

Food –
There was food available at the pool bar.

Overall for Argassi -
Great little place to stay, quiet little town compared to Laganas, minutes away from a tiny beach.
For a quiet night’s sleep try and get rooms pool side ground floor or in the new block.
We booked trips from a shop along the main road these we found were cheaper, so check out the boat trips as there are few to choose from.
Cash Machine 1 available on main road if needed, dispensing Euro. Otherwise Zante town has a few more. We ate out and found a little gem restaurant just down the road, but you must book as it fills up every night without fail “Zorbas”, great food, friendly staff and prompt service.

BEACH – best head out of town along to Banana beach area near Visilikos, this you can catch a bus there or by car/moped/quad bike. Approx 20-30 mins on a moped. This beach has day beds at €12 which included a ice bucket, plastic cups and water or if you want cheaper then you can have 2 sunbeds (fabric) and a parasol for €6, there is a trendy posh bar serving food, drinks all waiter service to your sunbed or you can stroll to the bar areas and look out at the stunning views. This seems to be fairly new so not busy when we went. The beach has wooden walk ways to stop your feet being burnt by the hot sand, also you can you use the showers & changing cubicle set on the beach behind the sunbeds. Volleyball is set up to use as well not sure where you get the ball from tho. The sea water was warm and clear where you can see the fish swimming around your feet, so take your snorkel gear to enjoy the beauty of the ocean fish. The beach has little breeze so gets rather hot for sunbathers, around 17.00 – 17.30 you may see a pirate ship pass by from a day trip around the island, this looks fab for a snap shot on the camera is recommended.

If you are looking for a relaxing holiday and not much else then Zante may fit that bill, but if you are looking for great trips out and about and visiting the old history of Greece than Zante in my opinion is not one of the best places to visit out of the Greek Islands.

This is rated as a 2* resort which reflected in the price we paid, however if the paid a lot more then I properly be extremely disappointed. Overall for us we had a great holiday and used this as a base and enjoyed the relaxing time away from the hustle and bustle from the UK work life.

I stayed at the Ionian Hill Studios last week with my friend (2 females - late 20's early 30's). I'll start with positives...the view of Argassi and Zante town from the hotel pool was amazing! The hill walk up to the hotel wasn't too bad on a night if you're feeling fit but during a day it was just too hot to do. The taxi's were on strike for our full week so we had no option but to walk it but as I said not too bad at 2/3 in the morning when it's cool enough. It was pretty dangerous though in terms of cars screeching round the blind bends. You just had to make sure you had your wits about you. The accommodation itself was shall we say 'disappointing'. Yes we knew it was a 2 star but am being truthful when I say I have stayed in better 18-30 accommodation 10 years ago! The room was just depressing. The 'self-catering' facilities were terrible - No kettle, a plug-in 2 ring camping stove was your cooking equipment - fridge was about 60cm in height and could only fit some cheese, spread and 2 bottles of water before it was full!, there was only one knife (yes I know we could have asked for another one but I don't think that's the point!) The shower was broken when we arrived (the water just squirted out of the side of the head) but to be fair to the owners as soon as I reported it they replaced the head. The second day the bulb in the bathroom broke but again as soon as I reported it they fixed it. The shower was small and really cramped but again I know you do expect that with Greece but maybe not to that level. The standards seemed to be pretty inconsistent as we made friends with another couple of girls and they had a larger fridge but no shower curtain at all so everything got soaked eveytime they had a shower. They only paid £200 for the holiday each but we paid £400 which I felt was way too excessive for the standard we got. (It was last minute as well. Booked on the Monday and went on Thursday). The food at the pool bar was pretty decent but quite expensive. Agrassi itself was a nice little place. Good for familes and older singles like us but no good for teens and early 20's who want a good party. There were some nice restaurants and few good bars. We booked the daily boat trip around Zakynthos with one of the tour companies advertised just down the road from the hotel and it was fabulous. Only 20 euros and worth it. We saw the full island in a day, got a great tan and even saw two dolphins jumping by the side of our boat which was fantastic. All in all I would not go back to the Ionian Hill Studios but may well go back to Argassi itself although then again I always think why go back to the same place when there's so many other places in the world to go!.
