We stayed at this hotel for a week as we wanted a family hotel not too far from Barcelona. The hotel is quite large and mostly Spanish and French families stay there - we had a wonderful week and would recommend it. We had two twin rooms which were quite basic in decoration but clean and tidy with satelite tv and airconditioning (a little noisy at night). Ours were two of the smaller rooms at the hotel but still perfectly adequate for a weeks stay. The bathroom was fully tiled and there was plenty of wardrobe space, no minibar though.
The best thing about this hotel is the location - it is only one building away from the most beautiful 5km beach with shops restaurants, tourist information and historic sights all within walking distance. Behind the hotel about 5mins walk is Calafell train station and there are trains every half hour to Barcelona (55mins) and St.Vincent de Calders the other way( 5mins) where you can change trains for Tarragona and Salou. You really couldn't get a better location for a family holiday near to Barcelona. We flew into Barcelona airport with Easyjet and got the train to the hotel via Sants station.
The breakfast at the hotel was fantastic, plenty of choice hot and cold and as much as you could ever want to eat. We also ate in the hotel once for our evening meal and had more that enough choice to suite any taste.
The hotel staff spoke quite good English and were helpful and friendly at all times.
The two swimming pools were great fun for our two teenage boys aged 13 and 17 years. They were quiet most of the day so we didn't need to reserve any of the sunbeds but it did get busy from 5-8pm.
Two evenings a week they have music and dancing which me and my husband really enjoyed.
As well as the restaurant there is a bar that serves drinks and snacks and ice-creams.
There is a small games rooms with a pool table and airhockey as well as two internet points - 1euro for 12mins, 2euros for 30mins . These were never busy at all so my teenagers could usually get on the net when they wanted. No wi-fi in the hotel though.
This is not a 'luxurious' hotel but clean and friendly and gets top marks for location and value for money. The hotel does have apartments with large balconies including a kitchen area and outside seating with sun brolly- these could be great with young children.
Each evening we ate out at a different restaurant in the town and were never disappointed. You can easily get tapas, pizza or even Indian cuisine. I would recommend eating along the front by the beach and especially Calafell66 which makes all it's own deli and bakery foods - delicious.
Look out for the sand artists who do sculptures each day - we saw Homer Simpson and an amazing giant castle..There is also a touristic train that goes round the town and a large indoor/outdoor market twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays by the tourist information centre.
