Like previous reviewers, we took our weekend away through the Travelzoo offer and I managed to book for 3 nights.
The hotel has an excellent location just off of the Junction of the M1 with the A38 to Mansfield.Easy to find but a dual carriageway means that you have to travel to the nearest roundabout to get to the other carriageway. Inconvenience more than a problem. The Hotel is not 4 star , I would judge it as a very good 3 star. The staff are 4 star though, very helpful with their knowledge of the area, always willing to chat and very keen to make your stay as good as possible.
The deal was exceptional based on the quality of the food alone, I have eaten far worse in supposed Michelin Approved restaurants. The presentation and taste were excellent, quantity was just right and , where appropriate, the plates were hot.
A particular point that I find annoying is to be presented with hot food on stone cold plates.
I did struggle to get through the Pot of Steaming Mussels which was supposed to be a Starter and came out more like a Main Course.
The Hotel itself is a commercial base for a lot of people , during our stay the Conference Suites were fully booked and the whole place buzzed with activity. I can understand that a lot of people will not like this, preferring a quieter residence, I find it to be very entertaining to sit in the Lounge with a Pint and "People Watching", we had a bit of a game working out who was married to who and who wasn`t.
The room was perfectly adequate for the duration of the stay, a full week would not be ideal for me having been spoilt by Far Eastern Hotels but the Linen was fresh and the Housemaid kept the room spotlessly clean. The Bbathroom is of an excellent size and I particularly loved the extra long and deep bath. The hot water was permanently at the end of the tap, no running for hours to get a tepid bath. A minor point was the lack of Toiletries, usual Bath and Shower Gel and that was about it. 4 Star hotels have these as standard and a lot more besides. The same applies to the TV, Flat Screen is the standard in todays world, I half expected the Test Card to come up at about 10:30pm.
The sports facilities were very good and easily located, staff were very friendly, informative and generally helpful .
In summary we paid £77 per room per night, I have no idea what the other reviewers expect for this sort of money, both my wfe and I realised that for £77 you are not going to be staying at a 4 star, surely this is only common sense. Go to London and Pay £180 per person and you can still come up with the same standard of Hotel.
We both liked the Derbyshire Hotel, it`s location, it`s staff and the whole general ambience. The trip was excellent value for money. You could go a lot further and fare a lot worse. We highly recommend this deal to anyone and everyone.
