“Don't Miss it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

Nathu la pas is historic place. It's CHINA-INDIA border. You need permit to obtain from local authorities from GANGTOK only. Permit is given only to Transporter. Individuals can't get the permit. Only tourist vehicles are allowed on this route.Road is dangerous. Be prepared for snow fall rain and bad weather conditions. Always carry RAINCOAT,UMBRELLA. Sight is very good. One can see china army on the other side. overall it is very good experience. Don't miss the spot.

“Lack of Oxygen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

It's a must place to see while we visit Gangtok. It's not a site seeing place, but it's a historical place Indo-China border. Due to it peak height, there is lack of Oxygen in Nathula. So do not talk much while you are in Nathula. It's a long journey to Nathula from Gangtok and the road to Nathula is very very bad and bumpy due to heavy landslides. The entire area is controlled by Indian Army and I'm so proud of our Army who are gaurding India in such a height. If you are planning to visit Nathula, please remember to carry 3 passport size photographs and a identity proof for the application form to be filled a day prior to the visit.

“Treacherous but tantalising”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

Bit difficult getting permits for the vehicles, mug shots of the tourists have to be submitted a day in advance and cleared by the Army and then the local police. And the weather should be fair as we had to cancel the first day due to a major landslide and made it the following day. The landslide was cleared most efficiently by the Indian Army who help out if any vehicle breaks down too.... in the upper reaches of this mountain pass at 14,500 ft it's an uplifting experience to see yaks colourfully bedecked and little kids take rides on some of them..Warm gear is available on hire at 13,000 ft in the shacks there, where the most awesome momos and noodles were polished off on our return from Nathula pass...An amazing experience for 12 of us from one family....and if you're lucky you might get to see Chinese soldiers too in the biting cold...

“Once in a life time experience. Go for it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

The journey is not dangerous as it is made out to be by some reviewers. I would rather call it adventurous.
Few tips: Ask your tour operator to provide a good new vehicle and driver should be experienced.
If you are not carrying proper winter dressing (temperature at Nathula could go below 4-5 centigrade ) rent it from vendors at Changu Lake. Shoes and jacket very important.
At Natula there are about 5--60 steps to reach till the top. Climb slowly , Take your time. As Oxygen is low at 14000ft.
See first hand how our Army is protecting us in such inhospitable conditions. Makes you really proud to be an Indian. A big thank you to our army
