“The New Banana Cafe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2012

Banana Cafe has moved! The same great food, homey atmosphere, and excellent service now is on a rooftop on Cazy Street. There are a few new dishes, but the menu has remained mostly the same. I had excellent spaghetti with prawns, a new favorite for me--and on another visit a delicious spinach tarte. The new rooftop is spacious and wonderfully breezy; a great place to escape the heat on the streets. I highly recommend this friendly place!

“Banana Cafe = Relocated, still great value for price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2012

I've eaten there four times: The pasta with prawns, the aubergine pie, the spinach pie, and the roasted veggies with salad. Each meal has been tasty, fresh, large portions and great value for a small price. The chocolate cake is moist enough to be confused with a brownie. The owner and his family are sweet, courteous and friendly. The ambiance is very casual, but the experience is special. This is going on my favorites list. Open for lunch and dinner.

The old Banana Cafe in 'White Town" of Pondicherry had to relocate because the building owner wanted to raise the rent beyond what Sentil, the cafe owner, could afford. So he relocated to 36 Cazy St, just a couple of blocks west of the old location. I like the New Banana Cafe's location much better. Its on a high rooftop that catches the evening breezes. If you time your arrival just right, you can enjoy a drink of Hibiscus while being serenaded by local muezzins singing the call to prayer, and watching the local corvids swooping in the twilight before they settle down for the night. Its a magical way to start dinner.

“Budgeted, fresh & tasty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2012

I live in Pondicherry and often go to eat in the Banana Cafe because compared to all the other places, they really serve fresh & healthy food. The place is not for drinking or for a romantic evening with your girl/boy friend... Its more of a home-food quality for all the travelers who don't want to upset their stomachs and not spend a bomb on some basic, tasty European food.

“A Dive”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2011

Usually, I've found TripAdvisor guidance helpful - and read the other posts. In fairness, there were only three others rating The Banana cafe, and it appears they went for breakfast or lunch.

We went for dinner last night and the place is very low-end, does not serve alcohol, and had many items crossed off the menu. We walked out and had a great Dinner at Hotel L'Orient

“Excellent cuisine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2011

This is one place you should never miss if you are camped in Pondy.
Had one of the excellent dishes. Was with family and looking out for a decent place to eat after 10 pm. The owner was very courteous. Dont miss their hibiscus soda!
