“A warm & lovely place....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

Situated on a beautiful road or shall I say 'rue' ....in a lovely part of French Puducherry... a delight to stay there. The place is really like a home, you feel tucked and safe in a warm friendly atmosphere, away from all the noise and pollution outside. The greenery and serene ambiance inside are very soothing and just what one needs. One notices small things in the house which indicate a strong sense of commitment to the environment protection - paper bags, no plastic storage for the shampoo, etc. They also have concerts on some evenings to give you a taste of Pondicherry's eclectic culture.

We had a very pleasant stay and kudos to the entire team who has taken a very good care of the place. The reply to our mail for room reservation was very prompt. We had mentioned that we would arrive early and were allowed to check in at 7:30am :)(We had travelled in the off-season).The breakfast had both continental and South Indian items. The rooms were tasetefully done. The staff was courteous and helpful(special thanks to Vijay).
The best part was the serene atmosphere - its a very peaceful retreat.

If you appreciate the fine details of colonial heritage architecture - this is the place to stay. Restored with impeccable taste and bus-loads of love.
Each room has its personal touch.
The feeling is more like staying at a home than a hotel - as there is a very personal care for the guests and the place.
Extremely calm ... felt like a relief to arrive back in the calmness of the green courtyard after walking the streets of Pondicherry.
Neighbourhood is great with really good food places close by.

And breakfast (both continental and south indian) is served each morning and shared with other guests at a long wooden table over looking the courtyard.

The Gratitude Heritage Home is a labour of love and beauty.

My wife and I stayed 4 nights at this lovely place in middle of the french quarter in Pondicherry. The house is breathtaking, beautifully renovated and all rooms are spacious and decorated with a lot of charm. After spending the days in some more busy streets of Pondicherry it was always great coming home to this relaxed, quiet and peaceful place. Virginia is a great host and fulfilled all our wishes, starting with an extraordinary breakfast in the morning, ending with some nice chats about culture and life in India. We can highly recommend this place, it is an oasis in Pondicherry.

The house is beautifully restored. The rooms are comfortable and the communal areas in the courtyard are welcoming and relaxing. There is an air of calm in the house that is not always easy to find in India! The owners clearly aim to offer a quality experience and this is what you get. The fact that they do not allow small children to stay was one of the reasons we chose Gratitude, having had our stays in many other places disturbed. We were extremely happy with our choice.

I am lucky enough to come to Pondicherry twice a year for business. I have stayed at Gratitude every time and every time I am treated to a home away from home (I wish my home looked like this!).

The staff are friendly and helpful - attentive but not enough to be irritating. I think this is something that many Indian hotels and guesthouses lack. The breakfast is great, especially if you have been travelling around India for a bit - real bread and croissants! The rooms are airy and very charmingly styled, everything from the bathroom welcome flowers to the beautiful bedspreads have been thought of.

I look forward to this leg of my trip, and I am rewarded without fail. I cannot recommend Gratitude enough.

This was the first hotel we arrived at in india, and was the perfect welcome to the country. We were very jet-lagged so slept really late on the first morning, but virginia kept breakfast for us so we could eat late. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable, and courtyard is lovely relaxing. It is located in a very peaceful street close to the sea, although the beach has been completely swept away and it is not so much of a swimming place at all any more. Pondicherry is a good base to explore the local sights.
