“Fantastic cocktails”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

My husband and I went here last night for a bit of a break from our curry 3 meals a day diet of the last 6 weeks. We also wanted to get a cold glass wine or a cocktail - special treat! This place was wonderful. The hotel itself was beautiful. Lovely running water in the courtyard area with big tree. We actually choose to sit in the air con mosquito free lounge - and loved every cool crisp moment of it. They had great service, perfect music playing, good food complete with complimentary breads and spreads, a few good wines to choose from and a fantastic mojito. Who could ask for more? A perfect little get away from our travels.

“perfect place for an intimate evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

i was amazed as i walked into Le Dupliex for the first time. The large doors open into a beautiful courtyard shaded by this huge mango tree. I loved their service and attention to detail. I had planned for a dinner for two and they helped us select the wine, our order and recommended what we should look at. You must try their fare of creole cuisine, their fresh salads and sea food. Its a small but carefully put together menu of some really lovely dishes. Go to Dupleix for a special evening. Oh and definitely check out their rooms. Exquisite!

“A good place for dinner albeit expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

In Indian terms, this is an expensive place for dinner but the food is good. Service is excellent. You can choose from Indian or European dishes - I cannot comment on the European as why come to India to not eat Indian.
One unusual opportunity is the chance to try Indian wine - quite good actually.
Dinner with wine for 2 people will run you about 3500 rupees.
The eating areas is surrounded by plants. It is a quiet courtyard. You can choose the bar / eating area with a/c - but it is set too cold.

“Another lazy decadent lunch at the Le Dupleix!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

Sunday summer afternoons in Pondicherry have to be spent indoors in cool air-conditioned comfort with a cold glass of rose in hand - and there is no where better to spend it than at the Governor's Lounge at the Le Dupleix!

We made a rushed booking for a group of 12, and expecting pandemonium at lunch - we found that the chef and his team coped quite well. The kids ordered their food quite quickly, and the dishes came out fast - a well done classic tenderloin for my son (the missing mushroom sauce and steak knife, quickly brought after!). A bottle of Sula Zinfandel Rose took a while to come, and it perhaps was not as cold as we would have liked - but we were not in a hurry, so the bottle cooled while we drank it.

For mains, my wife and I ordered the basha (sic. bassa) with parchment - tender and subtle, while I had the red snapper fillets. Both dishes were delicious, and I got to enjoy my son's leftover steak too! The steak's accompaniements were excellent - caramellised sweet carrots (that tasted like dried mango!) and beetroots! Desserts were a bit disappointing - they had run out of tiramaisu, so we settled for crumbly brownies and a sweet vanilla ice cream - that kind of did OK (more about where we went for desserts is in another review).

Service was good, considering the size of our group, and the pressure it put on the staff. Manivannan was unflappable, and remained calm and composed through the service, as was Visbeino - always smiling and gracious.

This is the best meal in Pondicherry by a mile, and they do it in style - I love the small pampered touches like the cold towels and small breads and dips.

Highly recommended!

“Delicious food in a classy courtyard”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2012

Considering the very classy travel-magazine-level surroundings, the food is quite reasonable (250-350 Rs per entree). The food is delicious, the service is great. Perfect for couples. Be sure to get a table in the courtyard.
