“Stay marred by other guests - TUI / Thomson employees!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2010

Almost 2 years since the last review, this complex is now partly private ownership / residential. Reception is still open during the day, but the pool bar has only been open about twice during our 4 month stay. Otherwise comments in the old reviews still apply. Great location between Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas, close to beach but on a slight hill. Great value rooms, for longer term rental at least. Friendly staff.

In other words, all the makings of a 'very good' rating.

But one thing lets it down...

Presumably to keep them away from holidaymakers, and to save costs, TUI / Thomson keep a large number of their Family Club Xtra staff here - around 10 young English people. The problem, predictably, is their behaviour - returning home between 3AM and 8AM, then shouting (no exaggeration) for up to an hour around, and loudly 'bombing' in, the supposedly closed at night pool. Last night at 4AM we were treated to a very loud slap and moan, possibly group, session, with the doors wide open. A second team returned home later and at 08:15 one erratic looking male almost threw a sun lounger AT his 2 fully dressed female colleagues and 1 male who were in the pool. Luckily they all shouted 'no' and he stumbled off. The shouting happens almost every night, the other performances 3 or 4 times a week.

Not recommended, purely because of TUI / Thomson Family Club Xtra staff misbehaviour.

We're a young couple (23 & 33) with a 3yr old (who travel a lot) & i am currently pregnant with number 2. We wanted some winter sun but didn't fancy Egypt as we've been before, & with me being pregnant i didn't fancy a long haul, so after a bit of research we settled on Tenerife - thank god we did! I'd heard some bad things about it, but to be honest, unless you go in search of Hooters, Linekers Bar, Drunkard Brits etc, you won't find them!
Saint George Apartments, Playa Las Vistas, Los Cristianos is ideal. The apartment was very spacious, extremely clean & well equipt & we had two balconies, both overlooking the pool with a sea view. The ONLY possible downside is its boundary is quite close to the road, but to be honest we didn't even notice the noise at all (and its completely safe for kids as the complex is surrounded by a high wall). The pool was immaculate & a lovely temperature, even in Feb, there are 2 supermarkets a stones throw away, 1 of which is 24hrs, and the beach is just down at the bottom of the hill.
Be aware that the reception is only open 9-2, 5-9 daily (which is why i didn't award full marks for service), so if you have a silly check in/out time, perhaps drop your key off early. There's 2 pool tables in reception & a couple of vending machines, a pool bar which is open til 2pm daily (though i would recommend buying your beer at the supermarket & taking it down to the pool with you), and a restaurant on site although we did not eat there. The reason i did not award full marks for sleep quality is that the beds aren't the comfiest i've ever slept on, but apart from that our stay was excellent.
The beach that you're closest too (las vistas) is by far the nicest, & several lifeguards patrol it well. To hire 2 sunbeds and a parasol will cost you 9euros for the day.
Personally i didn't find Playa las Americas tacky at all, yes there are english/irish bars etc but the restaurants are mostly excellent, i would especially recommend the Bianco Italian & the Tepenyaki which are next door to each other. Great shopping for the girls, with many many designer (real) brands and also Zara, Mango etc & if you are looking for day trips, i can definitely recommend highly Loro Parque & Siam Park (its cheaper if you buy the twin ticket from the apartments) you really won't be disappointed. We hired a car from Expedia for the week for 100euros, which was well worth it, we took the drive up to Mt Teide and the views were amazing, unfortunately the lift was closed and i was too 'pregnant' for the trek up there, but the drive alone through the pine forests was well worth it.

We've traveled to many many places over the past 5 yrs, some places I've loved, some not so much, but i can say for definite we will be returning to Tenerife for Winter Sun next yr!! A great place for everyone, whatever kind of holiday you're looking for and whatever age you are.

Well!
The hotel is a three star one and it totaly worth it. The room is clean. They cleaning and changing the towels everyday eccept Thursday and Sunday. The bad thing is that they have not changed the sheet in a week and it noticed.
There is a big supermarket in the near. You can make food in the hotel apartment.
The hotel is close to the center and to the beaches which are very clean and nice. They have a nice pool. There is no a beach towel or a sundeck at the beach. To rent a two sunchair and parasol will cost you 9 euro. There is a refrigerator in the apartment.

The hotel is very ok and worth the money.

Having read the reviews of the Saint George Apartments, we booked them two weeks before we travelled. Overall, they were really good. We had a nice room on the Second floor (the views from the third and fouth floors are great), it was spotlessly clean, if a bit basic. My only complaint was that the rooms get really hot at night with no aircon!

The apartments are up a slight hill, but if you choose a different route down to the beach, you can avoid the hill and go up / down some stairs instead. The beach is only 5 mins away, and if you walk for 10 mins, you're in the really nice part of Las America's where we ate most nights.

There is a fairly busy road next to the apartments, and the pool bar isn't up to much really, but none of this spoilt the holiday. I'd definatley reccomend!

I was expecting a lot more from these apartments after reading website and travel agent reviews.

On arriving and being given our key (and left to find the room ourselves!) we found that even though we had requested a sea view (reviews advised that most rooms had a sea view!) we seemed to be in the worst apartment in the hotel on the same level as the pool tucked in a corner with no decent view of any kind and the bedroom at the back had a high window near the ceiling with no natural light and was very dingy (also smelt very fusty). We enquired straight away with the reception if an alternative was available and was met with a shrug of the shoulders and a shake of the head. So, resigned that this would be our room with no alternative available we unpacked. On walking around the apartment whilst unpacking I notice my feet were black! - the floor was filthy! - another disappointment. I had to literally wash my feet before I put my shoes on and went outside!.

On the plus side, although basic it was a spacious apartment and the location is not too bad, only a five minute walk down the hill to the beach. It is on quite a steep incline (There is also noise from the nearby main road)

The pool bar closed at 5pm and there was no 'Cocktail Bar and there were NO Cocktails!.

The final disappointment we had was that the maid came in every day apart from Fridays and Sundays to empty bins/change towels/make beds (but not clean floor!) and we were leaving on the Friday but on the thursday before we left - no maid! - it would have been nice to know that on the day before you leave there would be no maid service as we could then have preserved towels to last longer.

These apartments are by no means cheap/a bargain. I would not bother again - I would do my homework as there were muche better options to be had.

  • Liked — Location was not too bad
  • Disliked — Room position / dirty floor

my stay in st georges apartments was amazing! to say the least! the staff were the friendliest i had ever come across! the apartments themselves were nice and comfortable! the pool area there was great, a snack bar and enough seating all around! it was great for all members of my family. there was a slight hill to get there but it is very close to the beach and the all the local pubs/restraunts! the coctail bar was a great laugh every night, good music, good company, and very good, interesting coctails!! i would recomend it whether you are going with a group of friends for a good time or as a nice family holiday! cannot wait until i go back there again!!

  • Liked — all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful
  • Disliked — the loation on the hill, but we got over that!

A very well presented medium sized apartment block set up a fairly steep incline but no more than 5 minutes from a huge beach!

This well maintained complex has an abundence of lovely exotic plants growing everywhere. There is a fabulous good sized heated pool with a snack bar but the usual early morning sun lounger reserving was necessary to stake your pitch! Receptionists were polite, friendly and helpful. All that we requested was quickly sorted with no problems (extra bedding, TV hire, taxis etc.) They will happily book a return taxi to the airport when required too. Internet access, safety deposit boxes, pool tables, electronic darts board, in room televisions are all available for a reasonable fee. The food and gift shop within reception area was not open throughout our stay so I can only assume it's seasonal. A Pilates centre is attached to the complex too offering all kinds of well-being body treatments.

We had a 1 bedroomed apartment for 3 of us for 6 days in December. It was cleaned regularly and towels changed at the same time - no clean towels were left on the maid's day off though! There was plenty of space for us all and the balcony was also a good size. A clean, well equipped kitchenette too. Views from the balcony overlooking the pool area and across to the sea in the distance were very pleasing! From the front door, you can see Mount Teide (most of the time it's snow capped!)

Outside there are several ways to get to the beach, shops, bars & restaurants etc. All are pleasant routes and most things are within a 5 minute walk. Both Playa de Las Americas and the centre of Los Cristianos are about a 15 minute walk in opposite directions. A well stocked Spar minimarket is conveniently situated across the road.

There really isn't anything negative to say about this accommodation except that if you don't like the thought of the steep incline to get to it from the beach, then it's probably not for you!

We booked over internet with Travelrepublic.co.uk and had no problems at all - we got a great deal too!

  • Liked — Modern, well maintained and clean
  • Disliked — Constant noise from children running around in apartment above us (we blame the parents!)
