“Very enjoyable week”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2011

We stayed in apartment 603 which is very comfortable with everything you need. The balcony is large with table, 4 chairs and 2 sunbeds. It is south facing and gets the sun all day to almost sunset. The view is fabulous and the photos do not do it justice. Barry and Sylvia were very helpful and i would highly recommend booking through them.
A very enjoyable week and we will certainly return.

Room Tip: The penthouse apartments have the best views.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2011

We stayed in apartment 113 in Cactus 1 which we booked direct with the owner, we paid £375 for a week in April. The block is pretty nice, kept clean and reasonably quiet. It is in a good location for us as it was slightly away up the hill but an easy 5 minute walk up and down the steps to the beach, shops and restaurants through the basement door. The pool was nice and clean and not very busy, I can imagine it might be different in summer. The actual apartment was a reasonable size, 2 bedrooms, lounge/kitchen and good size terrace with nice view over Los Cristianos and the harbour. All the other apartments on the 1st floor have lost their sea view there is a hideous (apparently illegal) building blocking it (see other photos on Trip Advisor) although their terraces get plenty of sun through the day even so. My one criticism was that the beds were not very comfortable especially the single beds in the little room and could do with new mattresses. Otherwise it did the job of a cheap and cheerful week in the sun. It was our first visit to Tenerife and we usually avoid package holiday type destinations but fancied a week's last minute Easter sun, Los Cristianos was perfect for us, still retained some local charm which Playa de las Americas didn't, we found it horribly touristy and full of English pubs selling cooked breakfasts which was not our thing at all. However, Los Cristianos had some nice restaurants and bars with some authentic Spanish food, try Restaurant San Luis and Tasca Andaluz both great authentic Spanish food at very reasonable prices. Also try Hocus Pocus bar by the Internet cafe and the Transylvanian tattoo shop, really lovely people who put up with my boys having an obligatory hour on wifi every evening before dinner and brought me and my husband drinks and tapas, knew what we drank after first evening and made us feel very welcome. We had a hire car and went to the Teide National Park and up the cable car, we also did some snorkelling and diving so useful to have the car to get to further away beaches and coves, well worth a drive, but you could manage without a car if you just want to sit on the beach, there are also lots of buses etc. Parking is a bit of nightmare outside, I would imagine it's even worse in summer.

Room Tip: Check your view, use basement door!

We stayed in 603 at the Cactus 1 apartments for a month from January 25th. Apartment well appointed with a spectacular view over the harbour as you can see from the photos. The location was convenient for the resort of Los Cristianos, with its excellent range of restaurants, bars, shops, supermarkets (some of which deliver free) and sandy beaches. Lots of steps to the resort, which keeps you fit, but plenty of cabs available if needed. Barry Halpin (Everton fan) was very friendly, always on hand and gave us some good ideas for day trips and information about the island. We would certainly recommend staying at this apartment. The block itself is well maintained and secure.

Just returned from a months stay at these apartments and in my opinion they are ideally situated for the town of Los Cristianos. The corridors and pool/sun areas are immaculately clean and well maintained. The pool area is subject to stringent rules i.e. no balls, inflatables or umbrellas etc. which would possibly justifiably deny any fun for children (other than swimming).
During our stay we occupied two apartments on the second floor - 211 & 213.
The former (1 bedroom) is a superb apt. well furnished and 'homely' however, it is subject to a horrific view from the balcony of an unfinished apt. block (90% view restriction).
The latter, 213 (2 bedroom), is a very smart apt. again, well furnished but lacking 'the personal touch' of 211. The view from here is only restricted by 10% .
I would recommend that any prospective visitor to apts. on floors 1 & 2 request from the owner/letting agent a photo of the actual view from the particular apt. being considered for rental. To display a photo taken from the balcony of the penthouse on the 6th floor can be misleading. I must add that when I booked these apts. I was informed accurately by the owner of the problems with restricted views.
I am not aware of any restricted views from the 3rd floor upward apts.
The local agent for 213 apt is one, Barry Halpin & wife Sylvia - both are readily approachable and helpful if problems occur.
As to the 100+ steps down to Los Cris - these can be circumnavigated by turning left from the basement exit of Cactus - a gentle slope (descent) brings one to the Church square - the ascent is somewhat more demanding but far better than the steps.
In conclusion, I can recommend the Cactus Apts. for adults with fair agility.

Was a little unsure after reading quite a negative review on here, however i always travel with an open mind as we have travelled wide and far over 30 years, we arrived by taxi after booking online- first impressions good - must say we had no problems with dirt on floor as previously mentioned on one review- it was spotlessly clean. We were told by the neighbour that the building opposite has been erected illegally and of course now they have all the courts to deal with in order to have it demolished - however we tended to look towards the left where we did have a nice view and could also see the sea, We did get plenty of sun too. Did find nighttime was rather cold at night and did use the extra blankets provided. On first venturing out I realised about the steps - Crikey did i feel it coming back it made me realise how unfit i was lol. By the end of the week i sure was feeling good - muscles in my legs working better than using any gym - I remember about someone posting about using the door in the basement - thankyou for that as we had no idea where anything was as never been there before. The location was brilliant right in the middle of town. Neighbour did tell us on 2nd day to go right out of building through basement door and keep going past two islands then up hill to the big supermarket - brilliant we found it even though it rained and we got little wet- Then if you go left down to the church and keep going left two supermarkets up there and also a british owned bakery - cream cakes but i resisted!!! Nice selection of cooked meats and bacon etc in the supermarket same side as bakery- Did try cheap wine and it was great as was little hesitant with it being so cheap - Found sunbeds on beach Far too expensice 9 euros for 2 sunbeds and brolly - no thanks first time i have ever put my towel direct on beach since i was a kid !!!! mind you so were many many people doing the same !!!! Come on Los Cristianos we get ripped off enough back here in Britain. Weather was hit and miss but we still enjoyed it just the same and i would def stay here again despite the building opposite. NOT RECOMMEND WITH ANYONE WITH WALKING DIFFICULTIES - and wouldnt like to think i had to get pushchair up there either unless your superfit. Was also nice to see that they had provided milk Sugar and Tea in the aprtment and water - nice Gesture -- Thankyou

My wife and i stayed at the Cactus 1 apartments room 111 from the 6th Dec.10 - 9th Jan. 11.
The position of the apartment block would not suit any person with mobility problems being at the top of many steps (even the short route) but once down into the town the resort was great. The apartment was grubby, tired and not very clean (more dirt on bare feet from the furniture and carpet than from the street). The view is ruined by an unfinished illegal build right in front of the balcony/terrace. The management Barry and Silvia are very helpfull and kind (full marks to them). We would not advise anyone to rent this particular apartment unless you have no other choice.
