“Totally awesome stay!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

This was our 1st trip to Waihi Beach & am glad we decided to stay here. We arrived a day or so after Christmas and stayed until after New Years Eve & we totally enjoyed our stay. We stayed in a cabin with 2 children aged 9 & 11 - they practically lived in the pool which gave us the opportunity to go for walks on the beach or just to sit out on the verandah & watch the kids in the pool. We found the staff to be very friendly & quite helpful with any queries we had. We did notice that the camp sites were very close to each other and spoke to the campers about this, but they seemed to have no issues about this (also a lot of them are return campers who come back every year so everybody seemed to know each other)
We found that there were a whole lot of places we could visit on a day trip which was quite handy especially when the kids want to go & visit different places - also with the township not far from the campsite it was nice to walk via the beach to go for breakfast etc
All in all we enjoyed it so much we are hoping to return again for Christmas 2013!!
Our room was serviced daily & the service ladies were always friendly & cheerful

Room Tip: If u want a view & also like quiet, book units 23/24/25 which overlooks the park

Thank you so much for your feedback, it is a bit like one big family over the Christmas and New Years period here as we have so many returning guests, and it's great that they all get to know each other and return year on year - hopefully we have been able to accommodate you for next season!?

Haven't been here for a good 3+ years - and was looking forward to coming back.

We stayed here on the weekend - I know we were staying during their peak 'summer' season - but I think $25.50 a night per person for just a campsite per person is a bit steep for what you get. The place now has lots of fancy cabins placed everywhere - and it seems like its all about the $$$.

Yeah there was a nice pool & spa, but the pool was packed with children and families & shut at 8pm (so no time to let the kids go to bed & leave the adults to it). So we didn't use this.

The facilities were good - like the Showers & Toilets were all nice & clean.

Would of given them another star - but we had a friend & her partner who were coming with us experience a death in their family - so couldn't make it. When we cancelled their booking we weren't able to get a refund on their booking but offered vouchers to come again which I thought was an OK offer but didn't show much compassion from the management of Top 10. It was a campsite, not a cabin or motel.

We still camped with a group of friends, we had a good time & had enjoy our stay, but don't think I would rush back to Waihi Beach Top 10 again.

Room Tip: We were by the beach - was nice - but lots of foot traffic which was quite loud.

Thank you for your feedback, we do try to strive for excellence here and it is unfortunate that you did not percieve our resort as value for money. We do think that we offer a vast range of fantastic facilities here from the heated pool, to the sauna, games room, jumping pillow, gym and family under 5's room. We have a beautiful location and try to look after our guests with friendly and welcoming customer service. We do offer an adults only swim time during our peak season from 8.30 - 9pm which you unforunately may have just missed. We would love to have you stay with us again, and if you have any further comments please do not hesitate to call us.

My wife and I love Waihi beach so when our 1st wedding anniversary came along we figured we'd head down to Waihi and stay somewhere close to the beach but still nice.

On the website, the explanation states that the rooms have either views of the resort or beach and are great for a couples getaway. This couldn't be further from the truth.

The studio room has only 1 window which happens to the sliding-door/entrance which looks directly at a wall/hedge and on to the only access point used by 3 other units. This meant that people were constantly walking past with a full view of our room, unless of course we had the curtains shut leaving the room with no natural light. At one point someone even walked in through the open sliding door past the curtains in to our room, awkwardly said sorry and walked back out. Obviously I don't blame the person, but that level of privacy is completely unacceptable for a room advertised specifically for "couples seeking a bit of relaxation". Some time after the random person, we had a random maintenance worker bashing our wall for 20 minutes from a ladder that could see straight through our ensuite window. I can honestly say that I couldn't wait to get home to my little house in busy Auckland so that I could relax after a complete accommodation fail. Ultimately it ruined our 1st wedding anniversary.

The only positive was that the unit was at ~100m from the beach.

If you're a couple, avoid this place like the plague.

From a distance it did look pretty good for families, there were kids going crazy and having fun all over the place, which we as a younger married couple had no problem with.

Room Tip: For the price, you can find a lot better in Waihi. There are several B&Bs but don't leave it...

Hi there, we apologize for the experience that you had us as we aim to exceed expectations and obviously the unit location and the description on our website has fallen short of this. We are currently upgrading our website and we will look carefully at the way we describe this unit so the expectation of the room, the view and the privacy is in line with the product.
We really hope that you would consider coming back and staying again so feel free to call us so we can fully describe our range of units, their privacy, location and views with you so you are not disappointed. We wish you all the best and we are sorry that you didn’t have a great anniversary.

We're trying to get the kids to appreciate nature / camping, so we got a site and pitched our tent. We've got 3 school aged kids and they (and we) really enjoyed our stay. Excellent, clean facilities, good playground, great pool, also location superb very close to the beach. We're coming back with a group of friends with kids...

Room Tip: If you haven't got kids you might want to stay on the beach side of the grounds... away from the...

I have stayed at the Waihi Beach Motor camp for almost 40 years and this year I have decided not to return. Since becoming a Top Ten camp the price has soared, I wouldn't be surprised to hear this is the most expensive camp in the country. They have added a pool, and upgraded all the buildings (kitchen, tv room, etc) and in doing so took up a lot of camping spaces, which I guess meant they had to increase their prices.

This used to be a cool little area with a row of shops and a cinema across the road, a sound shell where there were concerts, and a lively fun feel. Now all that has gone. There is an average chip shop across the road (with grumpy service) and a surfboard rental place. That's it.

We still liked the camping ground, and figured since the kids loved the pool it was worth the skyrocketing price. However, this year was particularly unpleasant, and just highlighted the fact that they are in it for the money, not the joy of camping.

I asked if some friends with kids who were visiting us would be allowed to use the pool and was told 'No'. Then was told they could probably make an acception, but they would have to pay. Okay, I figured that would be the case. Then they asked if our friends would be using the playground, and would they be using the barbecue, because that would be an additional charge. Then when our guests arrived they said "No, the kids could not pay to use the pool at all".

The management seems to have forgotten that families come to this camp for the experience, and that customer service is part of that experience. Next year we will be looking for a new location for our 'traditional' holiday.

Room Tip: Find another place to stay.

Thank you for your feedback.
We appreciate feedback whether it is positive or negative regarding your experience with us and the greater community so we can make improvements where needed.
Firstly we are very sorry to hear that your overall experience has not been good with us this year. It sounds like there has been some confusion on the visitor policy and we will ensure that our reception staff are right up to speed on this. Again, we do apologise for the confusion as we do have a policy that has been put in place for the greater enjoyment of our paying guests who consistently rebook with us year after year.
We do allow visitors to come and use our pool, jumping pillow, games room, kitchens, showers & BBQ's (visitors must know a family that is staying onsite) but there is a cost involved with that. Our rationale for this decision is based on knowing that Dec/January is a very busy time of year and we are mindful of over crowding the resort. We do think it is fair to look after our paying guests first and foremost so that they may have full use and enjoyment of the faciliites they are paying for.
In response to your comments around pricing, yes our prices have increased slightly year on year due to rising business overheads. However we are always looking for ways to add value and one way that we have done this has been through expanding on the value we offer around our Kids Holiday Programme as this now operates 7 days a week through January and we also added 3 movie nights per week with free popcorn. We have also purchased new and more cushioned outdoor furniture around the heated pool among other cabin upgrades around resort.
We have submitted a new guest feedback survey this peak season and we will be planning our next 10 year period based around the important feeback that our guests give us as we know it's important to stay in tune with you.

It would be great to see you again!

Stayed in a cabin for five nights. Great accomodation, excellent facilities, friendly and helpful staff. The whole park was clean and very well kept. We found it safe with plenty if activities for the kids. I was especially impressed with the pool area. This was good value for money, we have already book to return in 2014!

Overall... most USELESS service I have EVER had at one of these places. Would NEVER recommend this one!!!!!

Booked and paid for the $78 for a non-powered tent site (one night) the week before we were due to stay. (thought that was pretty expensive, but understood that it was new years eve - "peak times" and there was to be a covers band performing to bring in the new year).
We had just left from 3 days at another Holiday Park in Waihi (very enjoyable stay there, with no dramas) only left because they had said at the time of booking that they were already full on New Years Eve. Turned up at Waihi Beach Top10 and were EXTREMELY disappointed to discover that the lady had just given our site to someone else. She said that we could stay at the one down the road (which we had just left & was half the price per night) but still come and use pool facilities etc. She offered no part refund or apology for giving our prebooked and paid for site away. She did say however that we could come down to watch the band but didnt think about the fact that there is a liquor ban in place and there was to be a police cordon down the road from the top10 for us to have to pass through so if we wanted to have a couple of drinks while watching the band... that was OUT OF THE QUESTION. We ended up demanding a full refund. I asked her to book us in at the Top10 in Hot Water Beach who she rang (didnt explain to the woman there that she had just seriously mucked us around) and she said that without a credit card she couldnt reserve us a site and we would have to drive up there right now without a guarantee that we would have one when we got there. The stupid woman made New Years VERY stressful!!! Terrible customer service! -S.M.

Room Tip: Stay in a different holiday park!

Thank you for taking the time to place feedback. I have investigated this issue and acknowledge that unfortunately you had been double booked in our system. We sincerely apologise for this it was a mistake purely down to human error on our part. I would appreciate if you could give me a call to discuss what we can do for you to rectify this situation. I would also like to dicuss the way in which you believe the situation was handled by our staff here as our reception staff are usually known for their exceptional customer service.
