“Love this Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

If your heading to the coromandel this is a must stop.. make sure you have camera an torch at ready. The path ways are perfect for any fitness level and the wonnder on how they managed to build a gold mine in such terrain blows me away. The clear streams and old mine shafts, along with the Train tunnel make it a magical walk. The new Bike trials set it off. You can walk for as long and as short as you want. I have walked this track many times over the years and watched it envolve to what is is today. Anytime of year is perfect as the natural surrroundings are what make it. A must for any visitor, Tourist.. All this beauty and the best part its Free!

“Absolutely Spectacular!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

When driving from Auckland to Tauranga we did not expect to stumble across the quaint town of Paeroa with it's interesting history and wonderful eclectic collection of vintage and antique stores.

In Paeroa, make sure you stop the car and get out and have a wander through the shops on the main street! We told about the beautiful gorge we were about to drive through by a very enthusiastic local shop keeper & did not overestimate the beauty of the gorge. We stopped to explore some of the walks and waterfalls.

We will definitely go back when next in NZ & will allow at least half a day to better explore the beautiful country side and old mine!

“goldmines galore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

Took some English visitors to the Paeroa Highland Games and stayed at a comfortable and friendly B&B in the Gorge....Owl? Next day walked across the river and explored the diggings and buildings on the other side, before walking along the river. It was a fascinating area and well worth the time spent. Had a stroll around the Waihi Water Gardens, with an excellent lunch. The waterlilies were a beautiful sight, all glorious colours. My visitors were most impressed, and made a point of returning to the Karangahake Gorge on their return route to Auckland.
