Our third time to Ibiza this season and tenth time in Spain. The positives first: Jet Apartments are excellent, and the area of Playa D'en Bossa is a very nice resport but also lively with the Bora Bora club, Pacha and Space close by. The nightlife for young people here is probably the best in the world; very high-class fun 24/7, loads of classy people of all nationalities and orientatoins; all keen to meet you and party all night. I have seen San Antonio also and can say Bora Bora is a much nicer option though still very lively throughout the night. When Bora Bora closes around 5AM everyone is on the pull. The restaurant Moorea at Jet is super, the staff at Jet are extra friendly and all in all the resort seems better than anything else I have seen in the Med.
Contrary to many reports this resort or island is not expensive. Walk 500 meters to Can Joan restaurant where you can have the most amazing food and drink for EURO 10 a head or chinese all-inclusive for EURO 8. Even the apartments are cheap at the price, spacious, clean and well located.
On the first afternoon at Jet we sat on our balcony overlooking the beach and the pool areas. Two Policia Local with gloves on and nightstick truncheons swinging, patrolled the beach dishing out hassle to anyone identified as English. We saw one lad sitting on Jet pool area who was ordered to stand, put his hands up, then very severely beaten across the chest with a truncheon. Another was dragged down an alley. The police were simply out looking for trouble. This, unfortunately, is considered normal in Spain.
The healthcare at Can Misses Hospital is excellent. Which in the circumstances is probably just as well. If you ever end up in hospital as a result of the police it is wise not to mention this however as in the Med generally the doctors are frightened of reprisals.
Also, beware of taxis as they will short-change you on a regular basis. Even if you offer a tip they will still "try it on".
My conclusion is that Ibiza and Jet are great party places but scarred by a lack of civilization in which I eventually, despite the absolute maximum amount of tolerance and love of the Spanish culture; felt physically unsafe; That is not what anyone wants to go on holiday for. Currently Ibiza tourism figures are in decline. If the country reforms and the police learn that beating-up tourists is bad for business, I might go back in 2010.
