My husband and I stayed here from 29/09 to 06/10 on an all inc basis. After reading other reviews we had hoped that it would be a nice relaxing break but that wasn't the case. Upon arrival we were shown to our room which looked clean but slightly dated. We were in room 86, right at the end of the complex next to a dust road and houses for the locals. The beds were so uncomfortable that after the first night, we moved the mattresses into the living room and put the sofa cushions on top of them, then the sheets. The breakfasts were ok, a lot of choice but the lunches and evening meals were bad. I tried a number of different dishes and each tasted bland and very much the same, regardless of which type of meat they said it was. The turning point for me was whilst getting a plate of chips and salad (which I lived off whilst there) I went to get some sweetcorn which was in a tray next to the other salad items. This corn must have come from a tin as it was in some type of water/brine, but upon scooping some up the water had turned to a jelly and the smell was not pleasant. I made my husband double check to make sure that I wasn't overreacting and he confirmed that this sweetcorn must have been days old for the water to turn to gunk and smell. I walked out without eating. We bought bits from the local supermarket and ate mainly sandwiches and crisps after that. For 5 of the 7 nights we were woken by rockets being fired from the local houses right next to our room. The first 4 nights this happend between midnight and 1am but on the 5th night, this happend at 5am. I accept that this had nothing what so ever to do with the owners or other guests, and I do know that it annoyed the locals as much as it did us ( we spotted a couple of locals and security trying to catch the idiot) but still it was yet another disappointing part of our holiday. We were told that on our first night, there was a fight by the pool during which somebody held a broken bottle to someone elses throat, but as we were at the other end of the complex didn't hear this. Costa calma is a very quiet place, with not many places to eat and the shops seem to sell the same things. We hired a car for the day and drove round the island, which in my opinion is more or less the same as costa calma. One thing I will warn you about if going with young chidlren is the nudists. Whilst driving round the island we stopped at a couple of beaches, which looked normal, but then a couple who were totally naked walked past us. I just assumed that the beaches we were visiting we're a bit more relaxed than costa calma beach, but that wasn't the case, as the next day (whilst relaxing on the same part of costa calma beach we had been on all week) a guy drops his pants and lets everything hang out for the world to see. My hubby and I laughed it off and looked the other way, but I wouldn't have been as calm if my daughters had been with us. I dont know if this is the exception or the rule, but thought it worth mentioning incase you do decide to go on a family holiday. I certainly would not go back to the hotel, resort or infact the island. Despite how lovely the staff were, the holiday was not what we expected or hoped for. I would never tell anybody never to go to a place, everything written above is my opinion based on my experience. If you do decide to go, then all I will say is that I hope your trip is more enjoyable than ours.
