We had visited this hotel before (in 2006) and our memory of our visit at that time was good and so, when we found the same hotel appearing on our web search at a very good price we decided to take the plunge and go back again. We are glad we did for we had a truly lovely holiday.

However, if you are looking for a lively holiday we would say that probably this is not the holiday for you. If you are looking for peace and tranquility in lovely surroundings - then Costa Calma is the place to go! There is little outside the hotel in the way of entertainment. What you do have though is a most magnificent beach with flat firm sand where you can walk in the early morning or late afternoon. If your ideal holiday activity is a good book and a very comfortable sun bed (with free mattress!) then you will have a super time.

The hotel is almost 10 years old now and whilst it is kept immaculately clean and tidy there is just a hint of 'tiredness' creeping into the decor.

We had read reports about surly staff but from the moment we arrived until our departure we found the staff extremely helpful and friendly. We asked for extra pillows and on our return to the room they were there.

One great surprise was the quality of the food. Again, we had read some negative reports on food quality. I am a non-meat eater and I had absolutely no problem finding lots of lovely meals. My husband loved the show cooking where there different meat or fish dishes on offer. The 'free' wine is in ample supply, but it is best quaffed in moderation - not the best we have tasted!

As far as the entertainment is concerned. It is probably best to go with the attitude that it is SO bad that it is entertaining. We watched in horror one evening when a team of 'Fakirs' (fire jugglers) entertained and there were blazing balls of fire flying everywhere except where they were meant to go. It really was embarrassing ...and dangerous!! The 'Animation Team' were the source of most of the week's 'entertainment'... and I guess they work long hours for little return. One night we had 'Grease' and on another occasion 'Saturday Night Fever'. These 'shows' involved the playing of a loud CD, about 6 of the team leaping about and miming (badly) and lots of shouting. Hmmm....... enough said!

Surely the star of the week was the barman who works in the bar just outside the entertainment room. This guy is totally amazing. Despite the crowds waiting to be served he never once missed serving people in the correct order AND from the very first drink he then made a mental of note of your order which was then served every time you moved near the bar!! - whether you wanted the same drink or not!

The visitors to the hotels in the locality are mainly German/French. We didn't find this a problem at all - although, they don't often smile! (Why?) And.. much to our amazement towels were NOT placed on sunbeds in the early morning!

We reluctantly went along to the Thomas Cook introduction meeting which was incredibly boring and such a waste of time. The rep was most keen on selling you telephone cards!

We are going to post a few pictures which we hope will give you a good 'feel' of the hotel and surroundings.

One last comment... it seems to us that 'attitude is everything' when going on holiday. If you go expecting to have a great time you will have a great time! If you go looking for things to complain about you will surely find them!

Have a great holiday! We loved it!

Sunrise Costa Calma Beach Resort

We stayed for a week at the Hotel Costa Calma Bech Resort, the weather was amazing, the views from the terrace overlooked in the beach and sea were amazing. The pools were lovely and clean, the sunbeds were comfy and clean etc... The resort itself is very quiet with few amenities and only a couple of restaurants but as we were all inclusive that didnt really matter. The hotel was clean and tidy, the rooms are OK, but, could do with a bit of updating though. The food was a bit hit and miss, very continental , not alot for the kids either, our son lived on chips, pizza and pasta, not to mention hot dogs and burgers - not the healthiest of food.
This resort is very geared up for the Germans, Dutch and Belgiums as well as of course the Spanish
We were All Inclusive, which actually worked very well. The hotel is completely geared up to All Inclusive cos thats all they offer, apart from a few self catering apartments. My Husband and Son took advantage of the FREE tennis but, dont bother booking the FREE Tapas unless you want to trek to another hotel to have it (no one told us this vital piece of information, even reception who we booked it with, so when we told the waiter at our table he look bemused - of course he did cos the restaurant that served it was 30 minutes away - hence we didnt have any tapas!!)
Now to the things that annoyed us...Very few of the staff spoken proper English, it was more of a pigeon attempt, so alot was lost in translation, I found one particular receptionist called Benjamin (german) very rude - what happened to the customer always been right, watch out for him!! It was clear he didnt like English customers and was completely unhelpful, he also gave us wrong information on several occasions. We hired a car for a day to look around the Island, but had to wait 1 hour to collect it from the car rep based at reception who like the receptionist spoke little english. Apart from the tourist resorts this Island doesnt have alot to see. If we went there again we'd stay in Jandia at the Bottom of the Island, much more geared up for the tourists with loads of bars, restaurants, and lovely shops galore and plenty to do for the kids.Remember though cos the Euro is now worth about 80p shopping will seem more expensive!! .Go to Costa Calma if you want a quiet, peaceful holiday if you dont try Jandia (upmarket resort) or Costa Caleta (shades of little britain in places!) ENJOY!

We spent two weeks in this hotel and thought that generally the hotel and pool areas were very clean and the access to the beach was fantastic, however it was very difficult to get a sun lounger anywhere near the pool as they were always covered with towels!!! We felt that because we were not German the staff were not really interested in us.

Luckily we had arranged to go self catering, as we tried the breakfast in the hotel and it was not very nice (very much catered for Germans!).

The resort itself was nice and we found a couple of lovely restaurants where the staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for you.

We stayed here for a week in the sun. The hotel amenities are good there are a number of pools and is located on the beach. The hotel staff were ok but you needed to choose carefully. We were self catering and found that the rooms although roomy had the thinnest walls ever - so much so you could hear your neighbours snoring. The apartment appeared a little run down with some need for painting and general up keep and most disappointing was the quality of the bathroom towels which smelt!!-to the extent I could not wipe my body with them as the smell was rife. To top it off I had the worst Pina Colada of my life!

“Costa Calma Beach Hotel - Frequent Visitors”

Sunrise Costa Calma Beach Resort

We have visited this hotel on a number of occasions since 2003, both as a couple and with our (teenaged) children. Needless to say, we are very impressed with the hotel as a whole.
The hotel is situated at the end of a large bay and is right on the beach, where guests can use the hotel's (free) sun loungers. There are also 2 large swimming pools and a children's pool within the hotel complex. Lunch can be eaten in the hotel restaurant, though we preferred to eat at the outside bar adjacent to the beach.
Breakfast and lunchtime meals were consistently good, though we were a little disappointed with the evening meals this year. In previous years, there has been a large choice of food on each night, most of this being of a very high quality and certainly no scrimping on cost. However, this year the meals appear to be based upon a theme: Chinese, Italian, American, Mexican night etc.
This is all well and good, but we found that the choice was extremely limited on some nights and if you did not care for the night's food, well there was always - salad.
Having said all that, the hotel is still to be recommended.
The staff are excellent, the rooms well kept and I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a laid-back relaxing holiday.
There is some entertainment in the evenings, which we have never particularly enjoyed, but, each to his own!
The majority of the guests are German, but we have found that we have encountered polite, rude, friendly and unfriendly people of many nationalities at this hotel.
Recommended - long walks down the beach, the beach looks better the further you go. Check out the chipmunks along the way in the rocks!
