“Lovely pool area.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2012

This hotel looks very tired, could do with a make over. Fairly quite which I think was a good thing. No early morning cuppa here, you have to wait for breakfast. Food in restaurant very bland and basic, not a lot of variety. The ladies cleaning the room are also very frugal with the loo paper, I lost count of the times I had to ask for more. Reception staff very helpful. Could be a lot better with a bit of thought. Although quite location I enjoyed it, pool area is the best feature although I can't say it would be the same if busy.

We enjoyed our stay, but I am going to be a anal here, for the following reasons:
1. Yes, the hotel was under-occupied but this may be due to the crisis.
2. The location was not ideal, it being quiet to the point of desolation. On one side is the skeleton of an intended hotel gradually being filled with graffiti, on the other a deserted, unfinished housing estate; both are large and blot the landscape. However, the rooms all point inwards so one can close one's eyes when walking through the never-ending corridors. Many local businesses and cafés are closed, or not doing very well, possibly because Playa Verde holidays are all inclusive. A local café owner did mutter about this, but then look at the type of clients that these places try and attract, without wishing to sound snobbish. Cheap beer, karaoke and live shows are plentiful, in pockets of activity.
3. It was May, and the pool was unusable, but who would want to swim in it? There was a cold, prevailing wind blowing across the bleak, black landscape, which is filled with previous large rocks, presumably from previous eruptions. Some lost souls had mounded the smaller rocks in key areas, but they looked more like dog turds than attractions.
3. The food was plentiful, and if one self-service offering did not appeal then another was available. No need to moan there, even though the quality could be variable. Many people queued for food to be grilled by chefs, or crepes to be freshly made, including egg and bacon breakfasts, but we gave up on the meats after a while, because they invariably were overcooked and tough. The fish were better, although there must be a problem with the heat of the cooking surfaces.
4. Now to the key point: the noise generated by the over-enthusiastic waiters, when they stored dirty plates and cutlery was colossal, intrusive and unnecessary. When we transferred to a sister hotel for the 2nd week, in Tenerife, the problem was noticeably muted; this was simply because the waiters gave customers the time to clear their own plates onto the trolleys. It begs the question: who is given the greater priority: the customers or the waiters? I would encourage the staff to go as far as pointing out this facility to the customers, and refraining from diving in to clear used plates whenever people leave their tables, even mid-course. Sometimes, a stressed waiter (Male or female, in the Spanish sense of using this word), would send a wobbly pile of plates crashing across the floor.
5. A final comment on the guests: conspicuous consumption was the order of the day; each meal was eaten as if it were going to be the last supper, and the root cause of many of the guests with vast girths was self-evident. If Lanzarote were to lose contact with the outside world for any length of time, then I fear that these people would turn to cannibalism.

Room Tip: Stay away from the auditorium at the base of the garden.

To be honest as long as you aren't an anal person who is going to take photos of every little smudge you will have a lovely holiday here.

*Holiday: Onthebeach.com, 7 nights, Half Board, £380 per person incl flights
*Hotel: Nicely decorated, marble lobby and glass lifts. People have complained that the front fountains are rusty or not on but I really don't know how this would affect your holiday.
*Staff: Friendly (one maid helped us get a hornet out our room when my boyfriend was a wuss)
*Business: A bit quiet as it was not peak season

*Bar: 6/10 Served a selection of tasty cocktails and beer averagely priced. Down point is that it stopped serving at 11pm I think.
*Restaurant: 7/10 The room is divided as to whether you are Half board or AI. Food was nice but basic which suited us as I am a fussy eater. It repeated a couple of nights but there was always something good to eat. Breakfast included Rolls, cold meats, cheese, scrambled egg, bacon etc. Dinner varied from pork to fish to pasta to chips and sometimes they made pancakes which where great.
*Pool: 7/10 The main pool was nice and cool which was welcome in the heat. Only one of the jacuzzis was on which was fun but don't jump in the pool after, you will get a shock.
*Sunbeds: 5/10 We were lazy getting up but we could get beds next to the pool the majority of the time. The 2 days we couldn't we had to go under the palm tree section which was a bit hazardous as it was down tiled steps from the pool. Much caution was needed when descending so this would not be good for children.
*Entertainment: 5/10 Average entertainment for this type of hotel. There was something on most nights (low season) and we went to the reptile show which was great.

*Room: 7/10 Double room which consisted of 2 singles pushed together like most hotels. TBH this is nicer than a double bed as you have more space when it is hot. Everything was clean and nothing was broken. The Air Con was good and there was a big wardrobe with mirrored doors and two bedside tables. We didn't didn't really use the TV but it worked fine and there was the usual fridge, safe etc you would expect.
*View: Really nice view of pool and sea. Our balcony was a decent size and was nice and cool.
*Bathroom: Well decorated with everything you could want and there was a large shelf and mirror area which was great for applying makeup.

*Location: 8/10 A 5 minute walk from the bars and shops. 20 minute walk to the big strip. 40 minute walk to the Water Park (so fun!) or I think you could get a bus.
*Beach: 3/10 The nearest little beach is at the end of the road. Beds were available even late in the day and there were only a few people. HOWEVER, it is extremely windy in Lanzarote and we only lasted 30 mins as being blasted by sand was very painful. If you a person who prefers the beach to the pool Lanzarote is not for you.
*Weather: Mostly sunny with a few clouds at the beginning of the week. This was a good thing as the wind makes you forget how strong the sun is.

*Highlights: The Monkey Grill near the beach - a 50s style dinner with good music.
**La Vacca Loca** A tiny restaurant on the strip with a great atmosphere serving some of the best food I have ever tasted. AMAZING steak and tapas!!
Volcano excursion - make sure you go to the Orange colour tour place 5 minutes away from the hotel as this place did the best rates.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel with all the basics then this hotel is great. It had everything we could have needed and to be honest your holiday is what you make of it and this place has potential to give you a lovely one

Our entertainment program normaly has a plenty variety or activities for kids and teenagers but the date of the programs is form 28.06 june to 08.09 and during weekends. I was a bit wary before going as some of the reviews here were not great but i have to say we had a lovely week here over Christmas. It was very quiet but we had been warned about this and to be honest suited us. We had 3 kids with us aged 6, 9 and 13. Most of the other residents were retired Spanish couples.

The all inclusive was excellent. Food was lovely, there is a buffet and a grill where fish and meat are cooked in front of you. I agree that it may have become a bit repetitive after the end of the week but there was no meal that we did not enjoy.

The staff and friendly and helpful. The accomodation is extremely clean and well cared for.

If you are looking for a quiet holiday this is the place to go but as it is in a very quiet area you have to travel to go anywhere. You really would need a car or be prepared to go out by taxi. The weather was a nice 22 degrees but it is a very windy area which cools things down a lot - you definately need a sweater at night time.

We enjoyed our holiday as we were looking for a quiet relaxing week and this is what we got. I would return to one of this chains hotels but not to this area.

Room Tip: We were in a room that was close to where they had the nightly entertainment which started at 10.30...

I stayed here along with 3 other adults in October 2011 for one week - we were half board. First thing to mention is the hotel was very quiet (probably around 60-80). We were told this was because it was due for a refurb soon and the hotel was winding down. It was undoubtedly very quiet which of course made meal times in the relatively large restaurant a little odd.

For breakfast there was a small/medium size buffet (not necessarily a negative as there was unused space which i presume would have been used had there been more guests) and quality was fine. Average tasting pastries, cereals and breads (incl. toaster) but no yoghurts if that's your thing. Not an exceptional brekkie but certainly edible and anyone who complains is very fussy/very demanding. In addition to the buffet a chef would cook to order fried/scrambled eggs, omelette and bacon. One thing worth mentioning for the English breakfast fans; no beans! Tea/coffee and fruit juice were available self-service style - all quite acceptable.

Dinner in the restaurant was similar in terms of buffet choice and the chef cooking to order. However dinner was not as nice as breakfast in terms of taste. Yes edible, but I could understand anyone who might complain about the quality and warmth of the buffet (food was never hot - we even used a microwave to heat our own some food)! The chef would cook for you a choice of two (normally white) fish and two meats. My advice is try a little of each and then decide if possible because quality/taste was variable. Wine and beers available at extra cost (to be expected). For desert, in addition to the obligatory bland 'plastic' cream cakes and fruit, the chef could cook crepes which were really nice if you used your imagination and added some chocolate sauce and ice cream (both available nearby)

The rooms were comfortable but I have to let you know the following: The air-conditioning was really really useless. So much so, whilst it wasn't overly noisy, it was definitely better to turn it off and have a quieter night sleep than have it on. The refrigerator was also not great; we called hotel maintenance thinking it wasn't working but were assured it was and that it was as cool as it could be. All I can say (unlike the A/C) is that it was worth using, but don't expect anything to be cold. Other guests said the same. TV had CNN as an English news speaking channel but the picture/sounds made it ALMOST unwatchable. The sound (with accompanying noise interference) was plumbed into the bath/shower area which was cool (but useless in my room). Which leads me on to probably the 'worst' thing about the room (yes, worse than the A/C): The wash basin (sink if you prefer), mirror, hairdryer etc was NOT in a different room?! A little hard to explain but only the toilet/bidet and shower/bath were behind a closed door. Not a problem for many perhaps but some people like to wash, brush teeth, do make-up etc in some privacy!

The pool area was a little above average - nicely laid out with some beds offering more privacy than others. No umbrellas though around the pool so shade can be difficult if busy (but we never had that problem - see above!). Never went in the pool but it looked clean however there were some tiles missing. The few kids we saw seemed to love the pool area and water slides.

Finally Location. Hmm - I'm a little undecided but it's safe to say the hotel is a little isolated. There are pubs/bars and supermarkets around 5-10mins walk (if you leave the hotel via the rear through the weary crazy golf course, longer if you leave via reception). The beach and central Costa Tequise is 25-30mins walk. Buses do run (again, on the road of the hotel) and seem reliable to Arrecife and P. Del Carmen. Bicycle hire is available from other hotels in the area (not the Playaverde though) and from specialist bike hire shops in central C.Teguise (but therefore 25min walk away).

Hope that helps if your thinking of staying here. If you get a good cheap deal (and bear that in mind when staying) then you probably won't be disappointed. Other than that, I don't think I will be returning unless the apparent refurb is a comprehensive one.

Dear Guests,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback regarding our hotel. I am certainly disappointed that your stay was not all that it could have been.

I would like to apologize for the damage of the pool and I am pleased to say that they were already repaired during the month of October, we would have liked to have them repaired before but because of the high occupation and it was a reform in which we should have the pool closed between 18 to 21 days we could not carry it out.

As for your comment on the staff let me tell we adjust shift the same depending on the hours of influx of guests is paramount for us both good service and the speed in the same.

We will have very much in mind your impressions and we will work to improve these points marked so that in the next visit your perception of the product received is entirely satisfactory.
