“Great 3* Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2011

Great 3* All Inclusive Hotel, clean, spacious rooms. Great First Choice Holidays Kids club & hotel run animation team providing day & night time sports & activities. My daughter loved the mini disco!
Even though we were all inclusive we were in a one bedroom apartment which is fab as it gives you the extra space & privacy from the kids & also the kitchen facilities with a fridge.
Prior to going we had read some bad reviews but when you read between the lines they all seemed to be when the renovations were taking place so some facilities were not available & i believe this is the tour operators fault for not notifying their customers appropriately.
Basically you get what you pay for... it is a 3* hotel & doesn't pretend to be anything else!
The restaurants were always clean & plenty of choice available. But like most hotels buffet food can get repetitive so we did go into Costa Teguise for a couple of lovely meals which is a 5-10 minute walk.
It is very windy in Lanzarote so although there was no air conditioning in the room we didn't need it as the bedroom had a ceiling fan & if you left the bathroom window open at night it let a nice breeze blow through the apartment.
There are 2 sides to the hotel, the main pool & bar area & another large pool on the other side but this had no bar area. You can always get a sunbed as there is plenty of space around the pool but like most hotels if you want a particular spot then you must get up early!
The photo ID cards were a bit of a pain remembering to take them everywhere with you especially round the pool. However in the Aguamarina Bar at night if one person went to the bar & they took three cards they were allowed to take three drinks. The rule is one drink per one card. Which i suppose they must have had to do because people take advantage!
There was sport activities throughout the day but you were never pressured to take part. For example my son did water polo, football, archery, darts & i even tried rifle shooting!
I recommend taking a trip to the Ranchos Texas Park which is a small animal park with a brand new pool & splash zone - it only costs 20euro per adult & 15euro per child including the bus. You don't book through the rep you just get on the bus at the stop opposite the hotel and it is a 15 minute bus ride. White tigers were amazing!
We had a lovely time but your holiday is what you make of it - please be re-assured this hotel is not the nightmare some people have written!!

Room Tip: Email the hotel directly for a room in the renovated part with a sunny balcony

Just returned from Los Zocos after staying for two weeks and we had a great time. The room was a nice size with plenty of room for the three off us some of our party had 2 bed apartments and they were also very big with plenty of room.The rooms where cleaned 5 times a week and we thought the maid did a very good job once you lift your clothes up of the floor she will sweep and mop it she also used to line my daughters teddies up on the pillow on her bed.
The breakfast was lovely with a good choice and the breads where nice and fresh.
Lunch was also very nice in the EL Mirador restaurant with plenty of choice the barbecue ribs are to die for.
The pool bar was also very handy with burgers.hot dogs and chips you could also get a toastie just fill it up with what ever you wanted and they will toast it for you.
The EL Boulevarde at night was also good with a wide choice,however this was the same most nights and after 10 days we where getting a bit tired with the same food on offer in here that would be our only fault regards the food.
The Aquamarine bar at night was great fun for the kids however trying to get served here from 9-10.30pm was a joke there wasnt enough staff on and even when there was they had no system in place they just went to who ever they were closest too.Also if your self catering for some reason it looked like they didnt want to serve you.
We started of by staying at the pools where the pool bar is however after about 5 days we went around to the quieter pools as the music from the pool bar could be very loud at times.
All in all a nice hotel and we had a great time and would go back.

Just returned from two weeks in Los Zocos. As a family, we all had a great time. We have three boys aged 6 to 13. There was something for everyone to do. We, the grown ups even got to play tennis, aerobics on the beach one day, always something happening. The hotel/apartment was cleaned five times a week, food in the hotel was delicious especially the buffet in El Boulevard. Ate there every night. The staff at reception couldn't do enough for you, so polity and friendly. The Animation Team (entertainment for all the kids both day and night) were just fantastic. They worked so hard and yet always had time to stay hello and smile. The kids club First Choice I thought were quite rude and not particularly helpful. When I found out about the Animation Team, the holiday began!!. You can buy an All Inclusive ticket in reception and get all your meals paid for in advance. Do this at the hotel not the travel agents, its cheaper. We didn't use it all the time but sure was handy to have when staying by the pool all day. Great holiday, be ready for the wind! Animation Team made my holiday and my kids. Saw a brilliant performance of Grease and Glee - sorry wont get to see The MIchael Jackson Show. To Louis, Sergio, GG and Fiona - keep the good work up - you were truly fantastic!!. Will return to Los Zocos next year if I can!. D from Dublin

Room Tip: Bedrooms have the fans only. dont sleep in main room - too hot!.

Went to Los Zocos with my mum and 2 brothers, the hotel is nice friendly staff and always willing to help, the whether is lovely not much to complain about.

Rooms:
Very spacious rooms with nice views, you get cooking facilities toaster kettle and fridge etc, Tv and a safe. rooms were always kept clean very good housekeeping.

Restaurant/ food;
food is good lots of variety, and don't listen to other reviews about food there is lots and i never came across anything under cooked! if travelling with children they will love it there is always pizzas and chips and chicken nuggets as well as snacks in the day time including ice-cream. i would of liked to see more adult meals and something new to try the food was very english the italian restaurant is a must go absolutely brilliant

Hotel;
the entrance is lovely and you will find computers to use which are really cheap. there are tennis courts and 5 a side football pitches. a few pools all at good temperatures the hotel is very child orientated so there is a lot of kids running around everywhere!! but it is a family hotel and has a good family atmosphere. some areas could do with improving but for the price you pay you get a good deal.

Entertainment;
the staff encourage you to get involved and are very friendly including the bar staff who make nice cocktails. the entertainment reminds me slightly of Butlins and caravan holidays which does keep the kids happy, but they could improve on something for the adults. but it is still amusing to watch.

Area;
only down the road from the beach and it is a nice walk past the shops, the area is very safe day and night so don't feel intimidated to go out at night to any bars or restaurants. the beach is man made the sand is very hot!! the sea has a few rocks when getting in so i advise sea shoes, there is a slight under current so be careful but its clean and relaxful. you will get people approaching you to sell things but i gentle No will send them away and you have to pay for sun beds.

All in all the holiday was good and a nice place to go with the family, its not a hotel for couples to go and relax as its noisy throughout the day and early evening with the sound of kids but it is a family hotel lol had a great time in evenings at the bar :) As mentioned you get what you pay for and go with an open mind and don't moan about little things.

if you have already booked this hotel for the family with kids you will have a great time as there is a good family atmosphere, if you are a couple you will still have a good time but advise you maybe go out to the bars or restaurants to make it more relaxing and romantic. i advise doing the island tour its great and see the volcanos great for everyone

Enjoy!!

After reading a lot of reviews before going, I was a little worried, but the worry was unjustified.
The room was spacious enough for myself the missus and our son. We had a refurbished room that was a little worn but clean and well equipped.
The Larger pool area we spent little at due to amount of people and kids running wild. The quieter pool is where we spent our time, always got a sun bed. For some reason the sun beds at the larger pool were locked up until 9am.

The staff were fantastic, always helpful.
There was an awful lot of people complaining about rubbish in the resort. The staff were constantly cleaning, but the people staying at the hotel were the problem. Throwing empty drink cups, wrappers, news papers and ice cream tubs on the ground. There are plenty of bins, just pure laziness. Disgusting.

Can't comment on the food as we went self catering. Plenty of restataunts and bars close by.

Have just returned from week long family holiday, 2 adults 2 children (15 & 12) and on arrival my first impression of Los Zocos was of a lovely complex, well spread out with plenty of room and very pretty pool area. Had requested refurbished apartment which we got but soon realised that the sofa bed area was not big enough sleeping area for my 15 yr son and 12 yr daughter so changed to 2 bed apartment at additional cost of 105 eur - not a great start to holiday! Having read some very negative reviews before our trip I was relieved to learn that the newly refurbished el boulevard restaurant had re-opened and looked forward to our stay .............. Overall I l would say Los Zocos is a basic 3 star complex, in some ways it is very good eg breakfast/lunch is great (plentiful and hot) pools are lovely (no salt water), always lots for kids to do especially the very young kids club activities etc but there are several points that let this complex down badly.
AI identity cards instead of wristbands are a real pain, you had to be scanned into the pool bar every time you used it and always a risk of losing card, esp kids at a cost of 6 eur for replacement. Have always had wristbands in AI before and definitely much better system; very little shade/ parasols around pool area so some people up at dawn to get these (on the plus side plenty of sunbeds now that new supply of blue beds arrived), maid service v poor - usually arrived early evening which was unsuitable and so often just towels changed, even when she did access room it didnt seem touched - first time I have never left a tip at end of holiday! Biggest gripe I had with this complex is the evening bar, Club Acquamarina which is horrible - dark,dinghy, dirty like your worst butlins experience and entertainment is woeful with the drinks definitely watered and warm white wine - bottle wasn't kept in fridge??!!.
In summary, a few changes made to Los Zocos could make a real difference to the type of holiday experienced, luckily it is very central location and short walk along beautiful beach took us to some fantastic bars and entertainment. If you have already booked here, don't panic just be prepared not to want to stay in complex in the evening.
ps El Boulevard has a fantastic bar in the very centre of restaurant in shape of galleon ship, serving lovely cocktails and drinks until 10pm you can sit here after dinner listening to guy playing piano, pity Captain Jack Sparrow wasn't serving ..................

pps if you want to see how the other half live, take a walk across the street to the 5 star
Gran Melia Salinas Hotel, we spent an evening over there, beautiful.

We stayed at the los zocos for 10 nights and have just got back. We were extremely apprehensive after all the negative reviews recently but were pleasantly surprised. The weather was great but windy which was nice at times. The staff were extremely friendly and accimodating and worked hard to keep the place clean and tidy. The main moaners were fat, lazy brits who congregated around the main pool leaving rubbish strewn all over the place! Yes there are a handful of chavvy families but you get that wherever you go these days! The main restaurant reopened just after our arrival and was spotless with plenty of choice. The room was spacious and newly refurbed and was fine for the amount of time we spent in it. Kids clubs, great and staff make a real effort with the kids. The entettainment is cheesy but jusy go with it and have fun, a holiday is what u make it and there's no point spending your money and moaning for two weeks
