“Basic, but right for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

Just returned from one week's family holiday at the Galeon Playa. Spot on for the price. Basic but comfy rooms. Location couldn't have been more perfect especially with the play park right at the front of the hotel with a conveniently placed bar. (Not sure if the bar was part of the hotel, just on site) we didn't eat at the hotel but visited the bar once and found all staff friendly and helpful. Heated pool was well sheltered from the relentless winds. Would recommend to those with a young family. Pay for a sea view, guaranteed a better balcony in terms of sun, and of course view

Room Tip: Room 205 in the block closest to reception has free wifi on the balcony provided by vali! Very sunny...

We arrived on Sunday 21/04/13 and were far from impressed with our room. The sockets in many parts of the room were hanging off the wall and the light above the sofa bed and on patio did not work at all. The bathroom had a very bad smell from the drains and the bath was covered in rust along the bottom.
If you slept in the back bedroom and the people in the apartment above used the wash basin, shower or toilet during the night you would be woken by the water draining away.
The maid cleaned the room every other day but on all but one occasion left the patio doors unlocked and open. The reception said this was to dry the floors but as we were on the ground floor we found cats in the apartments on many occasions and would have been an open invitation to any passing burglar/Criminal.
All the defects were reported to reception when we arrived and were told they could not move us because they were full and had no 2 bedded apartments when we asked for 2 one bedded they had none either.
When our rep eventually got involved after 7 days they offered us another room (not much point in moving with 3 days left) and offered a free breakfast as compensation.
We stayed at Galeon playa last September and stayed in room 1304 which i would have rated as a 4-5 star room. This year we were in 107 and would struggle to give this room a 1 star.
On the plus side the staff (well most of them) were very helpful and friendly especially Erica in the Atlantic bar.
I cannot comment on the food in the restaurant as we never ate there but the food from the pool bar was OK.
Would i return to these apartments ? Yes i would when they have been refurbished

Please see review "Shabby without the Chic" posted on 7th May 2013 as this lady had similar issues as us and complained to rep on same day.

We stayed here 25 May to 1 June as a family, occupying a one bed room apartment with a sea view on half board basis. This is a really friendly place to stay where all the staff are cheerful and keen to help you out no matter what the issue, to name but a few, Clara, Tania, Olivia and Jose. Every where was spotlessly clean and in good condition. The food, at first we thought there was not a lot of choice, but what there was available was really well cooked by Jose with always something different available for all of us throughout our stay. The restaurant service provided by Olivia was second to none and she always remembered people and was prepared to talk to everyone to ensure they were made welcome.

For the sea view, yes you do have to look over the car park, yet you could always look to sea how busy the nearest beach was (100 Yds) but seeing people wander about added to the flavour of the stay. There was a range of shops and restaurants below our apartment but it was always quiet and you could easily pop down for a drink. Every thing we wanted to buy during our stay was no more than 2 or 300 Yds away and yet the area always felt really tranquil.

There was a really good pool bar again where the staff were really helpful and efficient.

Some people say the beds were hard, yes they are on the firm side but it has been one of those places I have returned from without as bad back and always had a good nights sleep.

My wife and daughter went snorkelling, whilst my son had his first diving lesson, this was in the sea lagoon that has the nearest beach. The diving place which is beside the hotel were really good and they were in the water all the time unlike some of the other schools where people did not seem to get any where near as long in the water.

They have new televisions which can take an HDMI cable and WiFi to the rooms which shows they are catering for modern information requirements, take your iPad, Kindle and HDMI cable with you.

Would we go again, yes we would and are currently looking for a slot in October.

Room Tip: Over looking sea, good for a bit of ambience.

We have just returned from 6 days at Galeon Playa. The apartments are well located and any staff we had interaction with were helpful. The accommodation is basic though - the crockery etc is cheap and ours was incomplete. There is no hairdryer, no coffee maker, no serving bowls. We spent a week sleeping on the sofas as the beds are simply the hardest beds I have ever come across. The walls are thin so you do hear every noise from nearby apartments. For a cheap week in the sun when you are out and about all day, its fine though. The apartment was cleaned twice during our stay. Weather was overcast, but warm when the sun managed o break through.
We dived with Calipso who were really good, and we went on the Grand Island Tour with Last Minute. The driver and the rep, Paul were great.

“Hotel Galeon Playa is the happiest hotel we've ever stayed in. Every staff member was cheerful in his/her work. We didn't see or hear of any grumbles from the guests. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. The food in the restaurant was varied, and the chef was happy to make individual meals to cater for special dietary requirements. He came out of the kitchen and into the restaurant every mealtime to talk to the guests and to make sure they were satisfied with their meals. The restaurant staff made each mealtime a pleasant sociable occasion. We hold them in the highest regard, as we have never had such personal attention in any other hotel restaurant. The hotel was in a good seafront location, with beaches to choose from. There are many shops, bars and restaurants nearby.
“Top Tip:There is a square 5 mins walk from the hotel where there is live music at night. Bars and restaurants surround the square, and when the lamps and candles are lit in the evenings, it is beautifully picturesque. It is worthwhile catching a bus into Teguise to see the Old Town. It was the Capital of Lanzarote until 1852.Also a bus ride to the present-day capital, Aricife. Get off the bus at the bus station then take a long and lovely sea-front walk. Just one block back from the seafront and you enter the bustling streets of the city.

Room Tip: We emailed ahead to request a higher floor room, and we were lucky there was availability. But the g...

My husband and I returned from our holiday on 24may 2013 after two weeks at the Galeon Playa. Our apartment was large and spotless. We had a sea view from the balcony at the front and pool view from the bedroom at the back. The apartment was cleaned 4 times a week and towels changed every two days. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the reception is manned 24hrs.The pool is cleaned daily. We loved the location as it's central to everything and just yards from the beach. We would happily stay there again. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we were self catering. There is a handy supermarket just outside the hotel and lots of restuarants to try whatever your wallet size.Sometimes it's the holiday makers that spoil things.Whilst the staff were trying to clean the pool and pool area some idiots were pulling out sunbeds to out their towels on and then disappear for the day.Overall a great holiday and will definitely be returning.

Our 7th visit to Lanzarote, 6th to Costa Teguise and 4th visit to the Galeon didn't disappoint (9th May for week). Set in our perfect location. 3rd floor Sea View apartment was cheapest through Low Cost Holidays - we got flights through Monarch - transfers to resort through Resort Hoppa - airport parking through Purple Parking.

Apartment was clean and comfortable with beds on the firm side (fine for me). Cleaners visited 4 times. Sufficient Self Catering facilities available but only used the kettle and fridge.

We only dealt with one reception staff member who was quite excellent (Tanya). I can't describe how much this adds to an enjoyable holiday. The Receptionist is a fine advertisement for the Galeon Playa.

On arrival, nothing was too much trouble. Friendly welcome, easy check-in...request for extra pillows...no problem....some coat hangers...no problem...both arrived within 10 minutes.

During our stay I complained that the hot water wasn't working. The maintenance chap arrived within 5 minutes...found I had turned the tap the wrong way to cold (doh). Despite this the fella didn't shake his head or tut or anything and was very cheerful throughout. He was not at all negative about what was a wasted journey for a stupid Brit!

We didn't use the pool (prefer the lovely local beach) or restaurant (so many choices out there) or the bar so cannot comment on them.

Breakfast (and free Wi-fi) every day at the Bar Vali, just outside, recommended !.

Booked private shuttle bus to the airport from reception for 15 euro (for 4 people), great value.

Only negative was the cost of the Galeon Wi-fi (15 euros each x2) and the subsequent variable signal. The hotel could (and should) easily improve this with more or better routers. Oh and though the TV looks nice the (lack of) channels available give little reason to switch it on.

Never-the-less, our thanks to the Apartamentos Galeon Playa for our 4th great stay out of 4.

Could we stay there again? - you BETCHA we could!

Pros: location, sea view, Tanya, everything you need is on the doorstep, not one cockroach all week!

Cons: variable wifi connectivity despite cost - a good free wifi would have people 'checking in' and 'posting' the name of the Galeon to their friends and is an opportunity missed by the Management.

Room Tip: Each to their own but we like 3rd floor over the shops as the Sea view is lovely
