Arrived back from the El Trebol on 5/8 and wish I was still there. Yes, the apartments are basic, but it’s not as if you stay in all day is it!
Our apartment was No 133 on the ground floor overlooking the mini golf area and kiddies slide pool. The apartment was clean and spacious and the balcony was huge. When we arrived, there was only one patio chair, but a simple request at reception saw 3 others arrive within the hour. What struck me most was how quiet and peaceful our balcony was.
The only criticisms I’d have about the room would be a loose television connection point and that the pull out bed from under the sofa had a few slats missing. My kids were so shattered by the time that we got back to our room, they’d have slept on a line anyway. The other gripe would be that you have to pay extra to hire kettles, toasters, TVs etc.
We went self catering as we’d read that cooked breakfasts were readily available just outside the complex for 2 euro. Both Ferraris and Cactus Jacks offered these deals and they were ideal to set you up for the day. Others offered similar deals for 50 cents more.
Upon arrival at the El Trebol we were offered the option to upgrade to AI for 16.50 euro pppd and 8.50 for kids. We declined but may well do so next time. Spoke to a lot of people during the week and they all seemed pleased with the food on offer. Also spoke to one guy who gave me a tip never to book AI before going as it is almost always cheaper to upgrade once there. Once I got home, I found this to be true as it would have cost us £450 more at the time of booking, yet it would only have cost us 350 euro once there.
The pool area at the El Trebol is superb – large pool, smaller deep pool, kiddies pool and kiddies slide pool. Be warned thought, the first time you jump in, it takes your breath away as the water is freezing! Weather was great – mid 40s every day, but the constant breeze cooled you down.
Daily entertainment for kids with Laura is great – mini golf, shuffleboard, ping pong, football and water polo. Similar for the adults with Jorge. They are both off on a Thursday though.
A small beer at the apts was a bit expensive at 1.30 euro, however local bars give you a large beer for 1 euro up until 6pm, so I used to take my kids to play pool there whilst I had a couple of pints!
If you go out of the rear entrance of the El Trebol, past the bar, you’ll immediately come to a cul de sac containing some bars (Ferraris, Hajjis and Chequers), a Spar, gift shop and amusement arcade. Go past the gift shop and turn left at the Pizzeria and you come to CACTUS JACKS – a great place. They have entertainment followed by karaoke every night. Happy hour runs from 7.30 – 9.00 and from midnight – 1am. We used to end up there at the end of every night on our way back. Look out for the Four Ever Tops and White Chocolate gigs - brilliant.
Across the road you’ll find Legends Bar, which also has entertainment every night. They also have a small bouncy castle, darts, games machines, a mechanical bull and a mini golf course. Personally, we preferred Cactus Jacks as it was more cosy and more welcoming.
Costa Teguise is lovely. It’s a quiet resort which caters mainly for families and couples - we’ didn’t see any groups of guys or gangs of girls at all, and didn’t see any rowdy behaviour. The main hub of the resort is the Square, which is about 10-15 walk from the El Trebol. You’ll find that it is quicker if you walk through the Los Cucharas shopping centre, and the walk along the promenade. You’ll come to a small roundabout by the bungee trampolines, keep to your right and at the top of the small hill, turn right into the Square. This area is full of restaurants and our favourites were the Texas Steakhouse and La Hacienda.
If you walk through the Square and out the other side, you’ll notice a small bar over the road called Lively Ladies where there’s a nightly drag show. We popped there one night just to see what was happening and ended up staying till the end – it was hilarious. I’d highly recommend it, but be warned that they need a decent crowd in otherwise they’ll cancel the show and just put on karaoke.
We really enjoyed this holiday and wished we'd booked for longer. Maybe next time!
