“Good stay for young or older couples”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2014

We stayed at sands beach for one month,As we are are a mature couple we did wonder if the complex would be noisy.that was not so,we had no problems with noise even at night time it was very peaceful,we did not have much to do with the complex as we rented a private studio it was first class in all ways We stayed at Amarilla 16 we had no complaints at all ,the studio was spotless although it does not over look the pool, that was no problem it felt quite private,it was home from home,As the studio has a pull down bed, there is plenty of room to leave the bed down,it was very comfortable to sleep on,every thing worked in the studio, you could cook as you would at home as you had all sorts of utensils to use.We could see that the complex was kept clean and lots of things going on for children,And i am sure the children would have a real good holiday at sands Beach,Only complaint we had which many people complained about there are not enough SUN BEDS around the pool,we did make a point of telling the reception staff that the owners should be aware of this as that is all we saw was people dragging chairs from one pool to other pools that is a shame,Come on Sands Beach put more sun chairs out,
other than that we had a real good holiday and would recommend this resort, and once again we loved the studio we stayed in, Well done to the owner for the way hes set out the holiday home it was first class ,so is Sands beach resort

Thank you for your review.
We must take this opportunity to point out some facts. It is completely illegal to rent an apartment directly from an owner at Sands Beach Resort. Under Spanish law in order to rent an apartment the owner needs to have a Touristica Licence. There can only be one licence in one complex and this is held by Sands Beach Resort. To achieve this licence certain legal insurance obligations and standards have to be met. There are many issues that can effect you that you are not aware of: You are not a guest of the hotel. The hotel insurance does not cover you in the event of an accident as you are not a guest of the hotel. Over the past month we have had 4 inspections by the local council. It is important that if you rent privately you bring your receipts and correspondence to show the inspector in the event of another inspection. It is expected that fines will issue in the coming months.
While it may not have been relevant to you, it is important to note that normal facilities of the hotel are not free to non guests of the hotel. Buddy Club, the adult fitness classes , the gym, our towel service are just some of the facilities that have to be paid for by the guests of owners in the hotel. On any issues regarding the hotel it is best to report these issues to the owner who you rented from as the reception only deal with issues of our own guests.

We thank you for your review as it gives us an opportunity to explain the true issues involved in privately renting on our complex. We are glad you enjoyed your time at our hotel. Hopefully, now you are aware of the true facts of the illegality of private rental you will book with our hotel next time to enjoy our full facilities. We would be delighted to welcome you as our guest and to enjoy our full facilities.

Enjoyed the stay, although it was only for a few days.
(However, I am giving it a much better go in June when I will be back for a week)

First off, in terms of the facilities, it isn't as good as Club LaSanta, Where I usually like to spend my time in Lanzarote. however, the rooms are far surperior.

The grounds themselves are beautiful with a very well thought out beach and sea lagoon to make it extremely family friendly.

I didn't get to use the gym on this occasion, but I did get to use the 25 m pool. The pool is very good for proper swim training, and you regularly see swim camps, and triathlon camps making use of it.

I very much enjoyed the breakfast in the restaurant, tremendous choice and very good quality.

Overall, I would say that this is worth giving a thorough visit, which I will in June and will update my review then

Thank you for your review.
While our hotel has excellent sports and training facilities our hotel is primarily also a 4* family holiday hotel. Our facilities reflect this. We are pleased that you were happy with the standard of our rooms.
We look forward to welcoming you back in June and seeing your updated review when you spend some time at our hotel.

We stayed at the Sands Resort for a week in April – May 2014. We’re a relatively young couple (25). Overall we had a good time and the general standard of the hotel was what would expect of 4 star accommodation in Europe outside of the UK.

The resort of Costa Teguise is quite quiet. There are a number of bars and restaurants, but there isn’t the ‘strip’ of bustling bars and restaurants that you would find in Puerto del Carman. Generally, it’s probably not ideal for groups of young people but perfectly adequate for families, an older crowd or couples wanting a relaxing holiday.

If you were impressed with the hotel in the pictures, you will be equally impressed with the hotel itself as they are a fair representative.

Pros

The hotel is 2 minutes off the bus route which will take you into Puerto del Carmen (i.e. a much more lively spot) and in terms of reliability, the busses out there put ours to shame. It takes about 45 minutes on line 3 (which goes from outside the Los Zocos hotel in Costa Teguise and returns from the San Antonio hotel in Puerto del Carmen) and costs E2.90 each way.

An irish lady called Rosemary is stationed at the hotel to give guests all the information they need about the resort. Rosemary was really helpful and as a result we made the most of our time in both Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carman. She recommended a brilliant restaurant in Costa Teguise – La Boheime (amazing for a mixed grill, and unlike all of the other restaurants we tried where you can expect oven chips, they make very tasty beef dripping chips).

When we where there the hotel did not seem to be nearly close to capacity. We only had someone in the next door apartment for 2 nights. As a result, there were only a few people by our pool (located in the Canaries section) and we had a really relaxing time. There was no usual fight for sunbeds.

The rooms are large (and we stayed in a standard apartment) and we had a ‘his and hers’ sink. The kitchen was well appointed and had we been cooking, we would have been pleasantly surprised.

The supermarket at the hotel is useful and has better opening hours than the other supermarkets in the resort (its open until midnight). However, we didn’t find it as cheap as other supermarkets, especially the ‘dino supermarket’ which there are plenty of out there.

Standard of cleanliness around the hotel was good. We had our towels changed daily.
On the day of check out we were permitted to keep our room for an additional 3 hours (check out is at 12 noon) for E20.

Cons

Sunbed cushions are not made available as standard like they are in other hotels. To obtain one you must appear at an appointed time and pay a deposit. When we asked about obtaining these at reception we were told to come back at 4pm (when the sunny part of the day was almost over). We didn’t end up getting these as we didn’t end up at reception at the appropriate time with the right money (and we thought it would be a hassle to get the deposit back before the flight if the service was only available at set times to be communicated by the not-so-helpful reception staff). In any event, barely anyone used the cushions (probably due to experiencing the same issues as us and the ones we did see looked old and dirty). Together with the bed in the apartment, I should think most guests will be relived to return home to soft furnishings.

The door on our apartment did not lock securely. When locked, it could still be pulled open. We reported this to the hotel.

The sheets on the bed did not appear to be long enough. Either one of us or both of us ended up sleeping on the mattress cover, which did not look like it was cleaned quite as often as the sheets.

Cleaning – we only had our room cleaned (and sheets changed) twice whilst we were there. Cleaning seemed to be on an ad-hoc basis.

Reception staff – not overly friendly or helpful. There were two members of staff checking guests in, but as the hotel is large and there were lots of guests checking in this would have taken some time if we had not read reviews in advance and had the foresight to ‘look alive’ when embarking from the transfer bus. Check in is late (at 4pm) but when we arrived at 3.30pm we were allowed into our room.

Whilst the rooms are large we had to pay a supplement for there only being two of us. This added an extra £80 to our holiday price. Also, the walls are paper thin, so if you have someone next door, you can quite clearly hear their conversations.

Room Tip: We stayed in C61 - perfectly adequate and located in the Canaries section (pool view with slight sid...

Thank you for your review. We are pleased you enjoyed your holiday with us.
The No 3 bus runs from the bus stop near the hotel and it is a very regular service. It runs all day and all night from Puerto del Carmen to Costa Teguise through Arrecife.
Our well stocked supermarket is open 07.30-00.00 every day. We stock a wide range of UK products. We have imported UK milk and same day UK and Irish newspapers by 11.00 every day. We also have bread freshly baked on the premises by 08.00 every morning.
If you would like to have a late checkout please see reception after 14.00 the day before you leave. If it is possible to have a late check out we will be happy to provide this service for a charge. We do not know until after 14.00 the day before you leave.
We thank you again for your review and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

We've just come back from a week stay here and were thoroughly impressed with the hotel. The rooms, staff and environment were excellent.
The kids (3 and 5) loved it. The kids clubs were amazingly well organised. The staff really went out of their way to help- it was great. Thank you.

Came here for a week with my two children age 13 and 5. Upon arrival was imagining that check in would take hours due to previous reviews, but we were checked in within 10 minutes.

The room was easy enough to find following the map reception had given us. We stayed in Amarillo section, which was always quiet, which suited me as the section with the park seemed very hectic in comparison.

The room was dated but to be honest, it doesn't bother us as long as it's clean, which it was.

I love the idea of being able to pop in and out of your room as you please when sat outside around the pool, instead of staying inside a hotel building. This was to our advantage because it was convenient for the use of the toilet, getting drinking, lunch etc.... Loved the fact that the beach was a 1 minute walk away and the commercial centre with bars and restaurants was a 10 minute walk.

There are only a couple of negative things I would say about the hotel. First of all, around the pool, the green flooring is coming up at places, so could do with replacing before someone trips over it and secondly the entertainment boards could do with being made a little clearer. The magic show was absolutely amazing, a must see if you stay here. We bought the magic set afterwards for 20 euros and was well worth it.

Apart from that, I really don't know how anyone could possibly moan about this hotel. It's a fantastic family hotel, friendly staff, great location.

Thank you for your review. We are delighted you enjoyed your family holiday at our hotel. We are particularly pleased that you mentioned our reception staff. We have employed new staff and it has taken some time in the training phase. Everyone is trained up to speed for the Summer.
We are pleased you were happy with the location of our hotel as it is ideally located for the beach and the shops, bars and restaurants.
We have just installed a new information wall in reception and we will pass your comments to the head of animation to look at the way the entertainment is displayed to see if there are any improvements we can make to the entertainment information.
Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Thank you for your continued support for our hotel. We believe in order to give our mutual guests the best advice it is always best to have experienced the hotel itself. We are always pleased to see travel agents as they play a big part in the correct selling of our resort.
We are delighted that our hotel lived up to your expectations.
Rosemary is at the Customer Services desk in reception every day from 09.00-15.00. She has lots of information about our hotel and the island of Lanzarote. She also has free maps and discount cards for shops, bars and restaurants in the area.
Thank you again for your review and we look forward to seeing you and your family in Sands Beach Resort again soon.

My family and I (2 adults and 2 children aged 10 and 5) stayed here for a fornight over the Easter break. It's a while since we've been self catering so didn't know what to expect.

Check in at reception was quick and efficient - we have done 'speedy check-in' beforehand, which I recommend and we quickly arranged wifi access and the room safe, without any issue. We were early arrivals but our room, in the requested Plaza Sol and on the 'sunny' side, was avaiable within about 30 minutes.

The first thing that struck us on arrival was the peace and quiet, even in Plaza Sol which probably attracted more children because of the park. There was occassional rowdiness playing footy in the park or around the pool by the kids, but nothing that caused a distrubance, it was all good natured. Plaza Sol was newly refurbished and very smart. I'm not sure I would have been so thrilled with the other plazas, which were a bit tatty.

The apartment was large and clean. Kitchen adequately equipped, plently of hanging space in the wardrobes and it was useful having the double sinks outside the bathroom itself. Water pressure for the shower was great, with plently of hot water. The bed was quite hard but I like lots of pillows at home so wherever I go, there are never enough.

The apartment was a bit tatty in places (the sofa bed in particular was worn and torn in places) but we were untroubled by that, we spent so little time in the apartment. A refurb would not go amiss.

We used the supermarket daily for fresh bread and pastries, water etc. Staff were friendly. We found that for self catering the Spar on Calle de las Acacias (turn left out of the hotel, right at the next main junction after Los Zocos and then on the right hand side about 200m down) had better choice at better prices than the nearer Hiperdino and the hotel's supermarket.

We did not use the Hacienda restaurant but had lunch in the Mai Tai twice. It was decent food at hotel prices, ie higher than you would get outside.

My youngest daughter went to Buddys club a number of times and thoroughly enjoyed it. Those guys work so hard! She went to the Mini disco most nights too.

The acid test is whether we would return? In a heartbeat - and we are already considering booking for next year.
