My sister and I (aged 25 and 28) stayed here half board between 21 and 28 November 2013. We were after a week's holiday to relax, recharge our batteries and enjoy some nice food, which is what we got (thank you). The only recommendation I'd make is for the Reception staff to be more welcoming and friendly on arrival, and express appreciation of your stay on check-out. They are the vital first and last impressions of the hotel. This is the reason I've rated 4/5 rather than 5/5. All other staff (porters, chefs, waiters, maids and pool staff) were excellent.
We were met off the coach by a smiling porter - who after ensuring we were checked in at Reception - provided us with a cold drink and escorted us to our room - carrying our cases for us (thank you). There was only one lady on Reception on arrival and I wouldn't describe her as very welcoming. She kept answering the telephone and talking to other people whilst in the middle of serving us, which I thought was rude. I could see that she was alone, but a smile and quick apology would have prevented me noting this in my review. Check-in was quick however.
Clean (cleaned daily), comfy bed, small fridge, free safe (instructions inside), good shower, hair dryer, nice large towels (changed daily), free air conditioning and all balconies have a sea view. Kettle in room, but have to pay extra for tea and coffee, so suggest you buy from shop across the road. Quiet room with thick walls, which ensures a good night's sleep. Maids were very friendly and did a good job (thank you).
The pool area was very clean (there was someone quietly sweeping up all the time), quiet and pretty. It overlooks the beach and sea too. A lot of people have stated about paint coming away on your feet (the path is painted white), but I'd personally say that was being a bit over critical and if a few tiny flakes of dried paint were to bother you, you might need a better book to read. Sun beds were comfy (padded seat cushions), but many were 'saved' with towels - sometimes not used for hours. Separate pool towels were provided free of charge on arrival in room.
Very quiet and clean location with flat promenade along seafront - wheelchair friendly. Hotel is situated on seafront/beach. Shop located opposite hotel. Free English newspaper (Daily Mail) kept in Reception for customer use (only one copy). Please say hola to the cute, friendly black cat which sits in the hotel's front garden (on roundabout bit) each evening. (You'll hear him/her meow before you see him/her as dark.) The cat doesn't bother you (it's very polite) unless you invite it over, but he/she likes ham if you fancy sneaking some out at breakfast/dinner for it.
We didn't actually participate in any entertainment, but there are approx. four exercise classes daily, a gym, bikes for hire and evening entertainment each night from 9.30pm.
Buffet style breakfast (good quantity and quality - bacon quite fatty though) served between 7am and 10am. Omelettes and eggs made to order in front of you. Buffet style dinner (lots to choose from) is served between 7pm and 10pm. A wide range of fresh meat and fish are cooked to order in front of you. At both breakfast and dinner, chefs and waiters were all friendly, polite and professional (thank you). In my opinion, they seemed a little overworked, so think a few more waiters may be required. If you aren't all inclusive, you can request to pay for drinks each night; otherwise all drinks are billed and paid on check-out.
Check-out is 12 noon, but there's a luggage room available. Check-out was quick and we were just told to 'enjoy our day.' I was surprised that we weren't asked by the male Receptionist if we had enjoyed our stay, we weren't asked for any feedback and we weren't thanked for spending our money at Melia Salinas. A different smiling porter insisted on carrying our cases for us on exiting (thank you).
High floor will get a better sea view (above trees).
