“Second visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013 via mobile

This was our second visit to the salinas, this time we went half board, food was very good something for everyone, you could also change dinner for lunch which was good and a change to try some local restaurants. Hotel doing few refurbishments but nothing to ruin your holiday. Two jacuzzis just put in by the main pool over looking the beach, will be lovely when up and running. Only change from last year was the place where you change your towels opens at really weird times as last year it was open first thing which was better as its nice to have clean towel first thing. Pool did get busy and sunbeds went pretty quick if u were up later properly wouldn't get a bed. Only other thing at other five star hotel you get waiter service round the pool which you don't get here. Lovely location, nice beach. Good value for what we paid. Would return again.

Considering we only booked a week before we went, this hotel was just what we wanted. There were 3 of us sharing a Junior suit. This included 2 double beds & sofa bed, large T.V, bar area, huge balcony and large bathroom, which was more than suitable for 3 sharing. As soon as we got to our room the sofa bed was already made, something most hotels don't do for you. As we had a suit we were entitled to use 'The Level', an exclusive access to 'adult only' pool with free drinks and snacks all day. This made us feel even more pampered. The staff were incredible and more than helpful and the food was presented and cooked beautifully. There was so much to choose from, whether you like fresh fish or meat, it was cooked in front of you to your liking. If you want a luxury holiday with sun and good food this is the place to be!

Having just returned from a fortnights holiday, I must say that in the main I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. We booked two rooms and upgraded one to a junior suite with access to " the level". The other was the next door room on request to the hotel, which they did. We ate out every evening and found most of the restaurants to be very good. Having done this we transferred our evening meal ( half board ) to lunch. Both breakfast and lunch in the hotel were very good. The food quality and choice was excellent and the staff, although busy, were available for drinks and any other requirements.
"The level" is a tranquil pool area for adults only, so if you want some peace and relaxation then go for it! No rush for sun beds and a complimentary snack and drinks service, which was handy.
Our two 15 year old girls enjoyed the main pool and beach, although the normal holiday issues exist around this pool, so you need to be up early to get a decent sunbed although you will get one if you don't, although it may be out of the way!
The beach has a great choice of watersports, however the sunbeds and parasols are payable at a local rate, which I was not aware of before travelling but I may have overlooked it.
There was some maintenance work going on but this was generally kept to areas that were unused at certain times of the day to avoid interference. One issue though is from the first floor where towels and blankets are used to soak up a leak from the building. This does cause a damp smell. Also although the staff are helpful, it was a lot slower in the onyx bar so we just went to the bar and ordered which sped things up.
In the main a great stay and wouldn't hesitate to return but only with the level upgrade.

Room Tip: Junior suites are large with two loungers and a seating area on a large balcony. Well worth it.

We stayed here to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary (with our two kids age 6 & 9 and my parents). We had a fantastic holiday and we would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quiet holiday with good food and great service.
Sadly we have learned that it is soon to become adults only which is a pity otherwise we would go back.

Location/Rooms/Service: Great location on a lovely beach and a short walk to shops/bars/restaurants.
We had an upgrade to a Grand Master Suite which I would recommend to anyone going to the hotel. It included RED level access (although we couldn't use the adult only pool as we had kids) but we did get complimentary drinks by the main pool included in the RED level. The suite was fantastic - jacuzzi on the huge terrace with sunbeds, another jacuzzi in the bathroom, ample space in our bedroom and the kids slept in a huge sofa bed in the lounge. The suite was finished to a very high standard. The hotel service was fantastic and the staff made us feel very welcome - cava and chocolates sent to our room for our anniversary. The Red level reception team could not have been more helpful - every little request was met with enthusiasm. A Huge thank you to Vanessa who made our holiday extra special. The food was also fantastic - always hot and fresh - no queuing and it was lovely to enjoy our meals outside.

The downsides:
Yes the hotel was built 30 odd years ago so its design is dated. However there is a huge renovation project underway and the areas that had been completed looked fantastic. The room that my parents stayed in had been renovated but there were still some cracks in the ceiling which we felt let down the standard of the hotel - clearly the workmanship had not been quality checked in that room. The poolside was in desperate need of an overhaul but I understand that work is planned for the near future. The adults pool was excellent: modern/clean/nice sunbeds and is a beautiful setting. Entertainment in the evening was a hit or miss. Some nights great - others very poor. There was a distinct lack of childrens activities but I guess this was due to the hotel switching to adults only which we knew in advance.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We found the hotel was very relaxing - not overcrowded - never had a problem getting sunbeds (which were extremely comfortable - thick mattress) nobody was hogging sunbeds and there were never any ques at meal times. The standard of food and service is what makes this hotel. We would be back in an instant if we could!

Room Tip: Upgrade to a master suite - its well worth the extra cost!

An hotel designed by the famous Lanza architect Manrique - architect of most of Lanza it appears....and it really is quite an attractive property....despite being so obviously 70s... There's an open central atrium which is planted out with exotic vegetation with pools of water flowing and little waterfalls....it all adds to a cool atmosphere in the 30c heat outside...

The bedroom was a good size and was reasonably well kept with a clean bathroom and a balcony overlooking the outside garden with a partial sea view. Balcony a little scruffy as it happens but nothing too awful...could just do with a little clean up and hoover. Never really spend a great deal of time IN the room, apart from sleeping of course, so my take is that it largely doesn't matter about the view....you can enjoy that from the pool area or other hotel areas.

Staff and service were generally pretty good too with breakfast & dinner service very attentive. Which brings us to the matter of food.....(we did h/b). I have to say that we rather enjoyed what was on offer both for breakfast and dinner...a good choice and the quality was pretty good too with live cooking stations (eggs & omelettes for b'fast & fresh fish or meat each night cooked to your reqmnts) and a wide choice of pre-prepared food too....."themed" food nights added to the choice...the best (and perhaps most surprising) one was "Food from the Canaries" night.....with a great starters choice which included fresh king prawns as well as stewed octopus in sauce - really very good.
A minus point tho' which struck me as a bit bizarre.... no tea/coffee etc included after dinner....? Why not? Surely this is part of half board...?
Evening "entertainment" was rather sadly pretty damn poor....no atmosphere, no central place to dance and so everyone just sat there until the "artist/s" finished (usually 45mins/1hr) then left.... This bit really does need sorting Melia! Plus a couple of the "acts" were pretty grim.. :-(

The pool is a good size with good loungers but of course by 0830, the best ones are "towelled up". At other hotels, they've had a rule which is that any unoccupied lounger for 2 hrs becomes free....that way, everyone can get a go rather than people coming down at 0800, leaving their towels & not returning until midday or even later... The common outside areas are well kept and are very clean.

Teguise itself is a bit touristy & developed (can it REALLY support over 10 chinese restaurants..!!??) but if you want a one week "kick-back" at a good hotel, this is, I think, the best one there, from what we saw...and we did take a look in a couple...

All in all, a good stay.

Hotel, gardens, pool and setting all fantastic. Food I simply can not understand how anyone could complain the standard and variety was exceptional inc an array of fresh fish & meat cooked to order in front of you! We did have a few problems with sink leaking toilet not flushing & aircon but each was fixed within an hour however when aircon broke again did complain as felt this was too much in 5* accom. Jenn the wonderful Thomson rep and a lovely lady from The Level guest relations were both amazing and we were compensated with champagne, chocs and 2 day Level passes which definitely made up for inconvenience. ALL staff in the hotel were very helpful and courteous all had a friendly smile and greeting every time we passed. Really hope to be able to return to this hotel and would like to thank the staff for a very pleasant/relaxing stay.

Room Tip: All rooms on 2nd floor seem to have great views but rooms with even number also look out over the st...
