“Great value for money hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2012

We have just returned from a lovely weeks break at the Luabay Lanzarote beach Hotel and did not experience any smells in the hotel or resort as other people appear to have experienced!
Hotel:
Pros:newly refurbished. Everything to a high standard. Very clean & well maintained. great staff, all speak good English & very helpful. Great location back entrance onto sandy beach and bars & shops. Front entrance close to main road full of bars, restaurants & shops. 2 minute walk to Pueblo Minero a square full of bars & restaurants which also holds a good market on a Friday night selling a variety of souvenirs, clothes, fake designer handbags watches etc & has live music. Good atmosphere here too.
Cons: we never found any lifts in the whole hotel therefore it is not suitable for those who find it hard to walk. The main restaurant is down a flight of stairs, the evening bar is upstairs & unless you get a room on the ground floor near reception steps or stairs will be involved to get to your room including carrying your luggage!
Restaurants:
Buffet restaurant serving breakfast & dinner. Pros:Good selection of hot & cold food. Cons:Only downside is air conditioning is on full blast & it's very cold. Make sure you wear trousers & a jacket!
Pool bar:
Pros: serves a good selection of snacks all day including ice cream & also serves a good selection of hot & cold foods for lunch.
Lunch & dinner in both restaurants offer soup, salads, fish meat vegetables & a range of desserts.
Cons: none except there is no fresh fruit juice!
At night the pool bar is turned into an al a carte restaurant. Pros:You are entitled to eat in this restaurant twice during your stay one night is Mexican & the other Spanish. This is waiter service with unlimited drinks top up. Both lovely evenings with great food & service.
Cons: the Spanish night is a set menu of 11 dishes plus dessert. Check the menu before you book as the menu is predominantly fish and mushroom and may not suit all tastes. The Mexican night gives you a choice of main courses & dessert
Pool:
Pros:Good pool area with plenty of sunbeds. Pool towels provided so save some space in your suitcase! Cucumber slices to refresh your eyes are brought round to your sunbeds each day along with cocktails and other drinks during the day
Cons: the pool is cold!!!
Rooms
Pros:Good size room with tv including English channels. Large comfortable beds all very clean. 1.5 litre bottle of water left in your fridge everyday. Large shower cubicle (no bath), large shower gel dispenser filled with perfectly acceptable fragranced shower gel therefore use that and save some more weight in your suitcase!! Good size balcony with table & chairs. Large safe in room at a cost of 14 euros for 7 days
Cons. No drawer space only 1 mirror which is in the bathroom which gets steamed up when you have a shower. If there are 2 of you needing to get ready using a mirror allow extra time!
Entertainment:
Pros:A large variety of daytime activities available & entertainment staff very friendly
Cons:Evening entertainment is not of the highest quality and there was a strange atmosphere in the bar therefore we landed up spending most evenings in a local Irish bar called hennesseys at the back of the hotel or in The Snug Bar in Pueblo Marinero. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and there is a great atmosphere in both bars. The only downside is you have to pay for your drinks!!

Returned from Luabay , Lanzarote Beach after a weeks holiday (travelled 8th March )
Excellent location and Hotel offers value for Money. Yes there is an unpleasant smell and hopefully the hotel can get it sorted but walking around the Resort Area there were other smelly areas so perhaps the resort in the main needs to attend to this.
If you have asked for a Sea View Room yes it can be windy but we thought we had scored by being in Block 3 room 3112N as the 'Breeze' was not directly into the room and the view was great. Having paid for a Sea View room we did not expect to have problems at Check In ... Hotel did not have us allocated a Sea View . Having looked at rooms when passing them we did not do well with the size and also lacked facilities. No room for furniture , no kitchen space in other words if you are offered this room decline and ask for another. Hotel cater more for German guests , both food and entertainment is geared towards them . but the restaurant and bar staff are great , helpfull and friendly . I regret I can not recommend this hotel and also found that the Tour Operator Representative was not concerned about the room allocation so if you travel with First Choice suggest you push more than we did for answers whilst in resort if you have a problem.

Room Tip: Ask to look at a couple or more before you unpack

We arrived on 8 march on a Thomas Cook all inclusive package First impression was nice lobby and friendly reception staff who directed us to our room in block 1 seaview
Having negotiated the pool area and down steps then up more to room 1216N (no lifts) we found a small room with a lovely view but two small drawers and only a mirror in the bathroom but was very modern with good shower cubicle
The beds were very comfortable but the room extremely cold we needed blankets and it was still cold at night as sea view rooms do not get sun you could not sit on the balcony as it was so windy
Having eventually found the restaurant we were greeted by a dreadful smell like sewage it really put us off our meal but we did find that there was not much to entice us to eat on the buffet certainly not the standard that we have found in the last hotel were we stayed in Lanzarote last year
Maybe the fact that the restaurant is below ground level does not help with no natural light and tables close together resembling a school dining hall
The wine was not the best ! I tried red and rose neither were very appealing!
The staff were excellent and worked hard clearing tables quickly and it was very clean
We complained to the rep at the welcome meeting and he explained that it was not the fault of the hotel and offered to move us but said other hotels may have the same problem in this resort along the coast we decided to stay as the location is perfect and we had easy access to the lovely beach and the smell did not affect our room
We used the pool bar for theme nights so at least enjoyed the tapas on the spanish nights wrapped up in warm clothes as it was freezing !
Unfortunately I developed a tummy upset which lasted three days so spent a lot of time in the cold bathroom ! So did not miss having the unappealing food
There is only a lounge bar upstairs and you have no choice of sitting having a drink anywhere else this bar has orange plastic seats and when the entertainment starts there is nowhere to else to go to have a conversation
We usually went back to our room and watched Sky News and BBC world again and again ! No other channels of entertainment seem to be available
The hotel really need to have a bar area available on ground level as the pool bar closes at 6pm and there are no seating areas around the pool only sun loungers
The maid did not clean the room until almost 5pm some days and when we asked why they said they can take up to 4.30 to do this (too bad if you want to go up for a siesta)!
The hotel is in a great location and the staff are very friendly The cleanliness is of a high standard and it is a pity that the restaurant lets it down
Pool view rooms are an essential if you do not want to freeze as they get the sun all day also a top floor in blocks 2 or 3 seem to be best
I would NOT return on an all inclusive basis it is better to eat out
The resort is very windy but the beach is lovely and very clean

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view on top floor block 2 or 3 some rooms may be larger

I`ll start with the smell in the dining room which you can`t escape from wherever you sit! We heard several causes for this ranging from `Poor sea defences` to `Broken sewage pipes in adjoining properties`. It is off putting. A shame because the hotel is cracking apart from that. The refurb has worked well. One strange thing is a full kitchen is provided but no equipment to use it in an all inclusive resort! The staff are fantastic and friendly who do a great job with service and cleanliness .Lovely unused pool because of the temperature (baltic) .Food is adequate but fairly repetative with recycled evening food at breakfast (brussell sprouts). The hotel does seem to be aimed at the european market rather than the British. Evening entertainment was no better or worse than other holiday hotels.I would agree that their is limited space after your evening meal to relax in if you dont want to watch the entertainment. The hotel is in a central location overlooking the beach with bars and restaurants nearby. Overall we thought this was a good value last minute break that we would return to.

My Partner and I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Luabay Lanzarote Beach Hotel and we loved it.

We arrived at the hotel at 1pm and were able to check into our Superior room straight away which was in block 4 level 2. The room was of decent size, very modern and clean... one of the nicest rooms we've stayed in. The shower was great and very powerful, the only negatives was there was only one mirror, which steamed up pretty quickly in the bathroom, our pool view was restricted by a large tree and the sun on our balcony was very limited. On a plus side our room was cleaned every day and the bed and pillows were very comfortable.

The hotel itself is very clean and modern, and the staff were brilliant - very friendly and worked tirelessly.

A lot of reviews comment on a bad smell in the restaurant, however we never noticed it. As for the food, we thought it was very nice and on two evening we went to the Mexican and Spanish themed restaurant which was nice to be waited on, our preference was the Mexican night.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay, the hotel is modern, very clean and ideally located. Also the staff and animation team were great and couldn't be faulted!

Room Tip: I would recommend the superior room which includes a small kitchenette and lounge area. And the thir...

Just returned from 7 days (08Mar departure) in this hotel. The hotels main areas are kept spotlessly clean, lobby is bright and modern. Rooms are clean and modern (although my maid didn’t appear until after 4.30pm every day to clean my room).

The main restaurant was like sitting in a bunker – it was below ground level and access to it was via metal stairs (I had a job locating it in initially – signage was very poor and it took several attempts). When you got to the bottom of the steps you were hit with the stench of what could only be described as sewage .The food - if you could get over the stench then, yes, there was quite a selection of the usual repetitive buffet type food- nothing was the warmest and the amount of oil which was used was very off-putting (bacon nearly needed a life raft as it was swimming in it). Breakfast in the main restaurant was the same every day – as the hotel guests appeared to be predominately Europeans and therefore catered for them - the usual continental salami, cured ham, green pepper, frankfurters etc – scrambled egg tasted like powdered eggs – so I stuck to cereal every day. Evening meals were lacking in options, it was the same thing every night and the wine was terrible. Specialty nights were held in the pool bar – Mexican night the food was cold – but Spanish night (tapas) was the best food all week (and it was warm). Spent the whole of my dinner shivering and lost the feeling in my feet it was so cold in there.

The room was modern, was in block 2, 2nd floor overlooking the beach it was north facing and was freezing day and night (and I mean freezing) a lovely balcony but unless you were in woolly hats coats and gloves you could not sit there. There were only 2 drawers which were under the safe in the wardrobe (€15 non refundable for a week to rent). There is no mirror in the main bedroom and no full length hanging space. There was no light above the wardrobe (and when the doors were open to it you literally were plunged into darkness when trying to get something out of it). The bathroom had a window which was directly behind the toilet (opaqued out – no blind) – this was on a wall where people walked past so you could see people sitting/standing going to the loo as well as washing etc (not exactly private). Hairdryer wasn’t that powerful (bring your own if you have long hair). TV consists of Sky News International and BBC World News if you are English – however if you are Spanish or German you have many more channels to choose from.

To get to your room from reception you do have to wheel your suitcase through people who are on their sun loungers - not the nicest way to arrive – then if you are not in a ground floor room you need to carry your suitcase up the stairs (there are no lifts)

Plenty of sunbeds at the pool, (towels €15 each refundable at the end of your stay if you return them) pool area was lovely but there was nowhere to actually sit (v’s lie down) out in the sun round the pool bar for lunch which meant you had to sit inside a cold and dull area, what I would class as a school dining room. Snacks are available until 6pm (curled up salami and cheese sandwiches, cheese and ham mini baguettes and some pastries). The beach is only 2 minutes away and costs only €10 for 2 loungers and an umbrella per day

As for a lounge/bar area – well if you want to sit in what could only be described as a hall with plastic orange chairs practically on top of one another then good luck to you! I certainly didn’t – there is actually nowhere you can go and sit comfortably after dinner and have a drink (which may be why most people retired after their dinner to their rooms!). This hotel lacks a comfortable and central seating area where you can enjoy your evening following dinner.

I can honestly say though that the staff were fantastic (apart from the sarcastic female receptionist checking me out). The restaurant staff worked tirelessly and tables were cleared very effectively and efficiently.

Would I go again – definitely not – would I recommend – location wise yes, but not as an all inclusive – room only would be your best bet!

Room Tip: Pool facing rooms - upper floors
