We had stayed at an Iberostar hotel before which was the reason we chose this hotel. Reading previous reviews we requested a sea view room on the 3rd floor, on arrival we were told this is reserved for families and VIP guests so we were given a 2nd floor room and was promised that this was a good room with a lovely sea view which we had to wait for about 2 hours although we arrived early afternoon. Although clean the furnishings in this room can be best described as 'well used' and was a little disappointing but the view was lovely. The next morning we enquired again about the VIP rooms and were told we could upgrade to the VIP rooms or a Superior Double room for an additional charge and were given a choice of 3 to look at. The room we settled on, 2235, was much better and larger and included a terrace area with Astro turf and a cabana bed & leading straight out to the pool and Jacuzzi area which are in a shared but quite private area (Prestige Star) well away from the main public pools and bars which suited us fine as we needed a quiet break. We got the impression this was a new thing at this hotel. I can't fault the food, there was plenty of choice both hot & cold, and the chefs at the grill will cook anything fresh and to your preference while you wait. We were amused but not surprised to find out that we were the only English guests staying at the time, the majority of the other guests being German(both rude & arrogant but sadly not unexpected). Any constructive criticism to make is that in the Prestige pool area there should be a bucket for wine and champagne also a better range of snacks as they do in the other bars. Overall a good stay and I would go again.

Room Tip: Rooms 2234 to 2237 would be my choice. But any room round to 2202 gives a lovely sea view if you do...

Independent booking direct on line - shortly before leaving the UK we received an
Email asking us to select a room according to the grade paid for ( sea view),
received an email back confirming the room had been booked
On arrival we were given a different room that looked out onto the main
bar/restaurant and pool area! Tried to explain about pre booking
our room with the guy on reception but he wasnt interested
The sea could be seen to the left when on the balcony - not the sea view we had in mind !!
Hubby was also told long trousers to be warn at night time when dining.
Surprised then to see people in shorts, track suit bottoms, scruffy t shirts
more suitable to day/beach wear - not a problem for us - just wander
why reception weren't upfront about this? No electric plugs in the room
One available in the bathroom - what hassle! Beds awful, flat wooden base with flat
Hard mattress impossible to get comfortable. 3 pillows so tough luck if you both want 2.
Tacky white plastic table and chairs on balcony (seen better days).
Food primarily aimed at German guests, repetitive and lacking choice, sprouts and cauliflower
For breakfast!! Not really a restaurant more of a cafe set up selfserve - waiting and serving staff
Efficient and friendly, sadly the hot self serve food was only warm and at times cold, but plenty of it. Wines on offer the same repetitive - ok but nothing special. Would have thought
A group of Iberostar's standing can surely come up with a better system
than the demeaning wristband system for identyfying sittings, why not
use the keycard- especially since no one was checking on
entrance to the dining room. Location ok for a relaxing
break in the sun and a nice beach nothing else to do though.
Stayed in many places throughout the world- very disapointed with
Iberostar will not stay with them again don't live up to their claims at this hotel.
I do not rate this as 4 star, and despite several reviews about the beds
their comments that they value feedback and take it on board seem
somwhat insincere as they haven't done anything about them,
Got the impression that they were going through the motions
not really bothered with the reality of what they were offering - complacent.

Dear Guest,

First of all we would like to thank you for choosing our IBEROSTAR Playa Gaviotas hotel for your holidays in Fuerteventura and for the time and effort you spent to share your personal feelings about your stay as we highly value our guests’ feedback which makes us aware of the improvements we may make to enhance their experience among us.

We deeply lament reading your disappointment with the room we accommodated you in, however we would like to point out that the rooms’ allocation is made in accordance with the booking we receive and your reservation was for a sea side view room; as we feel very sorry to hear that you weren’t satisfied on this occasion, we invite you for any future holiday planning to contact our call center where we can offer you a personalized booking guidance and give you all the relevant information for you to choose the destination, hotel and accommodation type and services that best fit your holiday needs and wishes for you to fully enjoy your holidays with IBEROSTAR; we also would like to point out that on our website and brochure it is specified that the restaurant is on buffet style and not with table service.

Related to the wristbands, they help us identify guests within the different boards that range from B&B, Half Board, Full Board, All Inclusive…. to see if guests are in permitted areas or if there are unauthorized people on the property; Moreover we would like to point out that at the entrance of the restaurant there is always the Maître and the Hotel Manager or Assistant Manager to greet our guests.

We also regret that our buffet couldn´t meet your expectations, mainly because the quality and the diversity of our culinary offer counts to our strengths. We take your comments regarding our cuisine very seriously, because we wish that our gastronomy remains a very special treat for our guests, furthermore as our clientele is international, our breakfast buffet offers a wide variety of hot and cold dishes including cooked vegetables to please all palates.

On the other hand, we are grateful for your kind words towards our waiting staff, their kindness and helpfulness being our hotel's main strength we will definitely congratulate them all on your behalf for their contribution to your wellbeing whilst staying among us.
Please rest assured that we take in consideration the feedback of our guests to improve in our daily services, our main goal being to guarantee complete guests’ satisfaction.

Once again, thank you very much for your visit; we hope that you had a pleasant journey back home and to have the pleasure of serving you again in our IBEROSTAR hotels in the most beautiful destinations worldwide, ensuring you in advance of our utmost care and dedication to offer you a very enjoyable stay among us.

Very enjoyable stay. Hotel is a 2 hr trip south from airport so had arranged a bus transfer prior to departure via Monach airline which we traveled with which was very good value at £22 each return ! Hotel is right on the beach and our room was less than 100yds from the beach with its fabulous white sand and turquoise sea The beach goes on for miles and my husband and I walked for 2 1/2 hrs one morning and there was still beach as far as you could see. You will see quite a few nudists but they are nearly all elderly or very elderly and not a problem except perhaps it you had children with you . The staff at the hotel are very friendly and welcoming and the food is very good .If one was being critical one could say that the dining room is a bit like a canteen but the place is spotless and we like to eat healthily and we were very satisfied with the choice of foods especially the seafood and fish which is always in plentiful supply. The vast majority of the guests are German
There is a gentle breeze at the beach which is very welcome as around the hotel pool was very hot so we avoided that and walked for hrs every day which kept us fit and healthy as well as enjoying good food. So if you like a beach holiday with the opportunity to walk for miles and even surf like some did with a hotel right on the beach which provides good food then this would fit the bill. The beds are certainly firm but not a problem I think .We would probably return due to its location .There are perhaps fancier hotels around but are more inland but location sells this hotel

It was our 2nd stay in Fuerteventura: first time we stayed at Iberostar Fuerteventura Palace, this time we decided to stay at Iberostar Gaviotas. We had great time in general and everything was really nice: the food, the beautiful Jandia beach, the turquoise sea. We booked a recently renovated suit with the sea view which was great. The only negative point were the so-called StarFriends who tried to entertain the guests but were pretty annoying to people like us who didn’t need it. The annoyance of this was multiplied by the fact they spoke German to everybody as if it was a resort in Germany. I don’t have anything against German speaking guests as it’s nice to speak a language the majority doesn’t understand but I found these StarFriends particularly irritating. On the contrary, the kitchen staff and cooks were really friendly and tried to reply in French which was nice. Have nothing to say about the sun beds as we preferred to go the beach instead of staying basically inside the hotel. Neither about the concerts and other entertainment. Our room was cleaned daily although not as meticulously as in Fuerteventura Palace. Beds were ok although pity it wasn’t a 2 persons bed, we always had an impression we slept separately. Bath robes were really uncomfortable and scratchy. In overall, it’s a nice All-In hotel with great location.

Room Tip: Renovated room with the sea view if possible, really worth it.

We stayed at an Iberostar last year and enjoyed an amazing holiday. Top review Albufera Playa.
Really disappointed this year. The beds were so uncomfortable I am now in physio to solve a neck, shoulder issue and bad leg,hip and I am usually fit and healthy! Such a shame, tried folding blankets under the sheet. The maids were very helpful and did their best to make the beds comfortable but it was awful. Please please please hotel managers/ staff change your mattresses!
Positives were, great food, fantastic entertainment team and kids club, nice gym, no shortage of beds poolside as long as you are an early riser. just such a shame about the beds. It has put me off Iberostar which is such a shame as I thought they were a brand I could trust for a good holiday.

Room Tip: Beware the beds unbearably uncomfortable

We stayed for 10 night from the 05-Aug-2013. We arrived at 10pm after a mess up with the transfers. The receptionist was excellent, she provided water for our two children and sparkling wine for the adults. A cold buffet was also laid on at 11pm, which was welcome for the adults if not a bit late for the kids.

Jandia is a predominately German resort and the Iberostar is no different, there was probably only 6 English speaking families in the whole hotel, not a problem for us, although I would say it probably put our children (ages 5 and 7) going to the kids club.

The staff were all friendly and helpful, especially the Animation team who worked tirelessly and were superb. We took part in some of the activities such as rifle shooting, archery and pistol shooting. Beware, if you win you are invited onto the stage at the end of the Children's disco to collect a certficate!

There were only 2 downsides as far as I was concerned which were the hardness of the beds (although they did try to fix this with extra blankets on top of the mattress) and the reserving of sun-beds around the pool. The hotel staff did go round the pool and remove hotel towels from sunbeds if they'd been left, but this wasn't the case for personal towels. My husband tended to go down at 7.30am to ensure we got beds.. as it was very much a 'if you can't beat them, join them situation'.

Most afternoons we walked down to the beach. The hotel sits just above and is one of the only hotels that is on the beach side of the road. It can be hard going on the way back up, so beware if you've got a buggy or are a wheelchair user. We had been to Jandia before so we were aware that most hotels are uphill from the beach.

The beach is amazing, a long expanse of white sand. The sea can be rough and there is often a riptide down the beach. Care should be taken to keep an eye on your children and avoid wearing sunglasses in the sea as I lost my D&Gs after a particularly big wave!

The dining room in the evening had 2 seatings, and they asked you to choose when you wanted to eat. We chose the earlier time because of our children, however when we did turn up later because we'd spent longer on the beach or at the pool, no one seemed to care.

The food in the hotel had a huge choice. There was even fat free yogurts at breakfast which I never have had on holiday before! There was a great choice of fish, salad and cold meats and I would say most people could find something they could eat, the problem is keeping it to one plate! My children basically ate pizza and pasta every day, so if you have got fussy kids they're catered for too!

What I particularly liked was the 'help yourself' table in the pool bar and evening restaurant session. There was a great choice of branded spirits. The table was also covered in sweets and my children ate their weight in them.

The cleaners made up the beds and cleaned the room every day. There was no kettle in the rooms so you couldn't have a cup of tea, but there was a fridge and the free bottles of water was provided everyday. The balcony for the suite was very small, there wasn't room for us all to sit out on the same time.

We don't normally stay in four star hotels, however having stayed in this Iberostar I'd like to stay in one of their hotels again (that's if I can pay off my credit card from this holiday)!

Our 5th time in Fuerteventura but decide to move up a level from iberostar fuertventura palace. the position is beautiful, near enough to walk to Jandia but far enough away to be quiet and with a fantastic view over the beach.Check in was efficient and the rooms as requested. No welcome drink but that may have been due to a late arrival. The rooms were clean and had a good view. sound insulation was slightly poor so our son's next door had to behave. Wheely cases on tiled corridors were very loud. The room cleaning was of a high standard. Public areas less so. A few items of litter remained in the corridor and on the stairs for several days.
On day 1 obediently removed our towels at lunch time, only to find no sun beds when we returned at 3.30. So we did as the germans did and reserved beds all day. However on day 5 I put the towels and bags down at 9 after breakfast and returned 20 minutes later to find they had been cleared. oddly our swim bag was still in place. I then had to insist I was not going to put down a new deposit to retrieve hotel towels. The pools themselves we're beautifully clean and the unheated one a comfortable temperature.
The food was of the usual high standard with a good variety of options. All drinks in the restaurant were self service which meant a lot of coming and going. I'm fairly sure that previously they we're served to the table. The bars were also mainly self service. We like a cocktail before diner on holiday sadly there we're 4 options, all pre made lurid coloured cordials and the actual make up of the mixture was very inconsistent. On 2 nights out of 7 mine was undrinkable. Somehow it felt Iberostar were cutting costs a bit and loosing the personal touch. My son's felt the on tap ice cream was a great plus.
Look out for chipmonks on the beach path. They're cute!!
Dispite the slight negatives we will almost certainly return.

Room Tip: the Ocean veiw rooms levels 1-4 are well worth having as there is little hotel or night life noise.
