“Great Mark Warner trip but hotel a bit tired”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

We travelled on 1st June - a couple of weeks into the new season. LHW Terminal 5, BA flight, transfer to hotel and check in all great.

Had a junior suite as 2 adults and 2x two year olds. We were located directly by the entrance gate which was quite noisy with staff shift changes and lots of deliveries but otherwise room worked well for us and it didn't affect our sleep.

Mark Warner kids club for our two yr old twins was fantastic and gave us the morning to relax. They had the same nanny all week (the lovely Charlie) and they went swimming, on a boat, did lots of messy play etc. Evening DVD club kind of worked for us but no chance of our girls sleeping with older kids running round. It gave us a couple of hours to have a relaxed dinner though.

Food is very varied and good quality. Kids High Tea in the Italian restaurant is pretty manic and the hotel needs to invest in a lot more highchairs and booster seats. The main restaurant is packed and queues to get seated can get quite long from 7.30pm onwards (and the hotel apparently only half full while we were there - not sure I'd brave it in high season!)

As we were there to relax we didn't use the water sports equipment or tennis but others were complimentary. The hotel is looking pretty tired but as we were there to chill out it didn't really bother us.

Overall, I'd recommend the holiday if you want sunshine and excellent child care.

Booked the hotel for a Mark Warner break. We were the first week of the season flying from Manchester on a weds ahead of the first London flight on the Saturday. MW staff met the flight and efficient transfer to hotel by coach, 10 mins away. We'd booked a village room as a party of 5, 3 kids under 10 yrs. Room was spacious on 2 levels, but looked a bit tired, contrary to what we had heard since brochure originally stated that all village rooms were to be upgraded for 2013. Transpires this is not the case and now only some are to be upgraded, the rest apparently in 2014. MW helpful in arranging change of room to an upgraded. Rooms include TV, fridge and tea/coffee facilities. Bathrooms ok with nice touch of bath robes. Although we were not on the front row (apparently bookable as an extra) the 2 terraces were fine with new patio furniture. MW staff very helpful, but it was the first week. The junior club for the kids was exceptional. Well run and provided them with a wide variety of sports, games etc, even evening cover, so long as the parents were on the hotel premises. Food options were varied. The main hotel restaurant served buffet style food at breakfast and evening meal. Good variety and quality. The Italian pizza restaurant was not open during our stay for evening meals but did serve kiddies food from about 5 til 6. Bar and beachside cafe good for drinks and lunchtime snacks at extra cost. The on site taverna served good Greek food in a courtyard setting, with a 30% reduction for half boarders like us. Other options include tavernas in the local town (10€ taxi) or the restaurant in the sister Hilton double tree, 5 mins walk away. Hotel pools great for kids with a separate 25m adults only pool. Overall, we could not really fault the place for value and will be thinking about returning next year. Things to look out for are the refurbished rooms and how the hotel copes, especially at times like breakfast, when it's full (750 guests). A great place for a family holiday in the sun!

Room Tip: Ask whether you are getting a refurbished room if planning to be in the village rooms.

My girlfriend and I knew very little about Kos and where we were going but Lakitira provided all we wanted for a very good price. The sports facilities are excellent with lots of willing participants and friendly staff. The weather was perfect everyday and we didn't want to leave. The only thing that lets this resort down is the food in the on site Italian restaurant. We were keen to try this place as it offered a different scene to that of the buffet main restaurant where most people ate. However, the quality of the food was not great. The resort is quite family orientated although we went at a time when it was slightly quieter.

I made a short film that shows a lot of the beach and some of the resort which you can watch here: http://vimeo.com/toddmacd/kos

We travelled in June 2012 with Mark Warner with our 18m old son. As others have said we looked for convenient daytime flights but due to changes at MW end we flew in the evening / night. This was awful with a tired crying toddler. Kos airport is a nightmare on a Sat night, very overcrowded, we had to queue to get out of the airport exit doors, good job there was no fire. On our return we had to queue for an hour to get back in the airport to check in! There were far too few gates, seats, etc. As the coach left the resort at 11pm for departure we got a 9pm checkout (instead of 12 noon, what were we supposed to do for 12 hours?) for which we paid a huge amount, about 110 euros.
As for the resort, it was very pleasant. Unlike on prev MW trips we have taken, MW do not take the whole resort over, just some of the rooms. Hotel staff are not MW. You have to pay for beach towels and wifi which I found pretty annoying. The wifi only worked in reception. We had a nice one bedroom suite with bathroom including toilet, separate toilet, bedroom and living area which we used for our toddler to sleep in. The living area could be completely shut off from main bedroom. Unfortunately our son did not sleep in the MW eve crèche so had to be put to sleep in his room in the eve. For this reason we wanted to eat in our room but there is no room service and staff will not allow food to be taken away from any of the restaurants. We managed to get babysitters on a few nights but when this wasn't possible we had to take it in turns to go and eat alone!
Restaurant meals were all buffet style, plenty of average food but crap coffee awful 'squash' and no fresh juices. You were not allowed to order drinks from the bar eg canned orange juice or bottled water at breakfast, weird rule. There was no beach bar in the evening in June. Kids tea was pretty good, pasta, pizza etc and friendly staff.

MW crèche and spa and waterfront staff were excellent as usual, but I wouldn't go to Lakitira again for the reasons above.

We stayed HB with Mark Warner for 2 weeks. We flew with WOW air who were very good for a budget airline and pretty entertaining too. Less good was the response to my request to for extra-legroom seat (I am 6'6'' tall). I called Mark Warner in advance to request this once we had booked. When we got to the check-in desk, they had not received such a request. When we explained we would like one person in extra legroom and then one nearby (wife with baby who has not flown before) we were told this would not be a problem. Got on the aircraft and they could not help us. The very same issue was experienced on the way home. Check-in staff (not MW or WOW airline) were therefore very bad and MW did not communicate any request to the check-in staff. Main moan over.

The holiday was a very welcome break with our 6 month year old baby girl and our first flight together as a family. The transfer was only about 25 mins so very easy. The flights were on-time too and MW seems to have dropped their other carrier who prompted all the previous flight based complaints.

The room was fine, not really 4* but OK. Housekeeping kept it in good clean order. The hotel itself was the same, OK but not quite 4*. It was however clean and tidy and well set-up for children of all ages. The ramp going down to the shop and nursery was very steep and there was slippy every morning when it was washed or when it rained. This was pretty poor for such a resort. It really needs replacing.

The Mark Warner child care was excellent. We did have an issue with the stand-in carer whilst our 'key-carer' had a day off, which we were very disappointed with. However, this was dealt with quickly and we were over all very happy with Izzy, who looked after our baby. She is obviously a natural with young children.

Wifi access and internet access was a joke. Slow speeds and very high cost (2.5 euro for 30 mins access). The guest laundry was also pretty poor. Less than half the machines worked and when they did, they pretty much made any clothes you had bought for holiday look about 3 years old. It was also very expensive at 5 euro per load!

The beaches were excellent, especially the sports/adult beach. It was well set-up for sailing and windsurfing etc. The beach bars were also good with very friendly hotel staff. The bar by the adult beach was a great spot to wind down in the evening. The sunset from that beach was spectacular and the view across the sea to the mainland, Turkey and other islands beautiful. My wife did some bike rides which she thoroughly enjoyed. The bikes were in good working order and the rides themselves were great for views. The rides catered for all levels and abilities too. There was nothing wrong with the guide at all. My wife also did a good bit of tennis and confirmed the facilities were very good. I had sailing instruction as a beginner and very much enjoyed it. I took boats out through the week to practice and there were plenty available. Although I am a confident open water swimmer, I felt very reassured with the safety cover on the beach for water sports.

The pools were well set-up although I would expect these to be very very busy in peak periods. I reckon the whole place was about half to two-thirds full through our stay.

The food was a very good buffet offering for breakfast and dinner and the Greek wine was reasonably priced and perfectly drinkable. One of the features we rally appreciated about the resort was the separate lunch area. It was nice to go somewhere else in the shade and outside for lunch. The waiting service in the restaurant wasn't great. Every morning we had to ask them to get us a high chair as there were not enough to go around and we were there off-season! We were then provided with dirty or broken chairs.

The bar staff were more friendly and helpful, especially in the two outdoor bars by the family pool and adult beach. German beer on tap hit the spot too.

We met some very nice people who really made the time we had there.

Overall we had a great holiday and more than likely would go back. It would be good to get some of the above moans straightened out though. This isn't a 4* offering but a very good 3*.

We have recently returned from a 2 week stay at Lakitira, our first visit to the hotel and also experience of Mark Warner. I am not normally one to write reviews however having had such a fantastic holiday I actually feel compelled to on this occasion!

We booked our holiday through Travel Designers, who are an Independent Travel agent, local to us is SW London who had been highly recommended. What a difference it makes to book a holiday with a company who actually appear to be interested in your requirements, listen to your needs and are knowledgeable and able to give helpful information and advice and a range of recommendations to suit our needs travelling as a family with a toddler for the first time. We were offered a few different options which ticked our boxes, activities, childcare and children's facilities and within a 4 hour flight but we are very glad we chose Lakatira on their excellent advice. One of the team had travelled there herself so was able to give us personal tips which really helped. The price was also highly competitive and having returned we definitely felt we got excellent value for money!

Flights with WOW air, which I have to admit we were initially wary of were actually fantastic with ideal times from Gatwick, on time and very friendly, helpful cabin crew with quite a sense of humour which is a refreshing change. Just a 15 minute transfer once we reached Kos makes it ideal especially when travelling with young children and we were settled into our room at the hotel in little over an hour after our flight landed

The accommodation is very clean, spacious and functional, nothing special but then it does not claim to be. We booked a junior suite as recommended to us and had more room than expected, perfect for 2 adults and a toddler and much larger to similar room types I have stayed in at other hotels. Rooms were cleaned daily and all the hotel in general was kept in immaculate order, including the beautiful gardens

This really is a gorgeous spot, with 2 beaches adults and children around either side of the bay, absolutely ideal for the watersports offered, especially for relative novices such as ourselves. The Mark Warner team were great and we thoroughly enjoyed learning to sail and windsurf in relatively calm, warm waters.

This resort really came into its own for us on the childcare which was superb and our 18 month old was upset leaving each afternoon. The kids clubs are large and spacious with a huge range of toys and activities and the structured programmes keep even the most active and adventurous toddlers, of which our daughter is one interested. The childcare team were brilliant, I really cannot speak highly enough about them. The pyjama club in the evenings is also a great addition allowing you to drop them off for a few hours and enjoy dinner alone if you chose.

If I was to say anything negative it would only be that over a 2 week period the food was sometimes a little bit uninspiring and sometimes a little bland, although I guess this is due to the number of children in the resort. It would also have been good to have a room service option as there were a few evenings when we would have been more than happy to just chill out in the room.

Overall this was a fantastic holiday and if not to Lakitira we will certainly be returning to Mark Warner next summer, with a group of friends and booking all our future travel with Travel Designers

We booked the last week of the season, the oct half term and can honestly say it s the best hol my 8 yr old daughter and I have experienced together! The mark Warner staff were fab and there was no sign of their standards dropping on the last week!
They even arranged a get together for parents travelling on their own so no sooner has we arrived we made lots of great friends throughout our stay..
Loved the tennis academy, the coaches were great, and a really good, fun time with the other tennis players.. Including the organised social tennis and fun mixed doubles tournament at the end!
My daughter loved having a taste of the sailing and achieving her RYA 1 as well as all the other wonderful activities ..
The hotel staff kept the resort spotless, even when a storm ripped through the resort during the night, by 7 am all the debris blown in by the winds had been swept away and the pool cleaned, as if it has never happened!
A very happy mother and daughter, thankyou !
