“Pleasant family run hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

We stayed for ten days at the sunny view hotel
It is a family run hotel with home made greek cooked food every day
The rooms are basic and the pool is one of the cleanest i have used.
No problem getting a sun bed and relaxing with none of the all inclusive rat race
Made to feel really welcome.
Not in centre of karademena but you can get a short taxi ride
Also recommend the horse riding close by,never done this before but was great
Only downside we did not take our kettle and we like tea and coffee in room
Hope this us helpful

Thanks George,katirina,francis

The hotel was very nice and clean and based in an area that isn't too close to the busy town centre but not too far to walk to go in for dinner or to the beach. The pool was incredible, I compared to all other pools in the area and none were any where near as good and clean as this one. The family that run the hotel were very friendly and couldn't do more to help you. I am fussy when it comes to food and on the BBQ night they made extra effort to cook something for me that I would like as well as making extra effort for my younger brother and mum. The rooms were cleaned daily and even had some freshly cut roses from the hotel rose bushes put on my bed which was a very nice surprise. Saying goodbye to the family on our last day was very sad but we will definitely be returning soon!

Overall our experience was an enjoyable and relaxing holiday and we can't wait to return!

We (a family of 4 consisting of my parents, my fiancé and myself) arrived at the Sunny View Hotel at around 11pm (Greek time) and were greeted by the lovely little Sunny. Sunny is the resident dog at Sunny View, she doesn't like the sound of suitcases on the ground, she doesn't like suppliers of the hotel or people with large bags. When she sees/hears these things, she usually starts to bark which is the worst thing you will experience with Sunny. She really is a lovely little dog and wouldn't hurt a fly!
After saying hello to Sunny and the guests that we passed, we went to check in at reception. We were checked in by Frantzis. They do take your passports when you check in but you can request these back at anytime, without any hassle. My dad asked if there was any chance of us being fed that evening as we hadn't eaten since we were at Gatwick at around 1pm (GMT). Katerina said that she could make us a quick sandwich each but nothing hot as it was so late in the evening. Whilst ordering our drinks, we were informed that we could have Beef Stifado if we wanted, we all said yes! The Stifado was beautifully cooked and came with chips or rice (we only had the option of chips due to the time). The price for the Stifado was 7.95€ per person.
We had 2 rooms between the 4 of us and our room door handle fell off. We got used to closing the door carefully and then just genuinely forgot to mention it. One lunch time, we were sitting in the bar and the cleaner went to go into our room and the handle fell off. Frantzis immediately said "I am going to fix your door handle now, I keep forgetting!" and off he went. We never had a problem with it after that.
The rooms are basic but very clean and include a bed, a fridge (ours needed to be plugged in which was easy enough to do), a hairdryer and a TV.
Breakfast is continental and there is plenty of it! It is served between 7.30am - 9.30am. Coffee, tea, orange juice are the drink options (you can purchase other drinks from the bar). To eat, they offer fresh rolls, bread, cheese, ham, butter, jam (strawberry, cherry, apricot and orange marmalade), tinned peaches, cornflakes, coco pops and Madeira cake. There is a toaster if you want toast. Alternatively, you can pay 3.50€ for a fried breakfast, 2 sausages, 2 eggs, beans and plenty of bacon! If you order within the breakfast times, you can have the toast, coffee etc as well if you wish. If you order outside of the breakfast times, you can pay 5€ for the fried breakfast and get 2 slices of toast, tea or coffee and orange juice.
The hotel offers "Happy Hour" twice every evening, 7pm - 8pm and then again at 10pm - 11pm. During this time, cocktails are 2.50€ or 3 for 7€. Mythos and Fix beer is 1.50€ instead of 2€ as is Ouzo and Lemon.
I personally didn't have any problem with the WiFi in our room, it wasn't a strong signal but it worked fine for me. Frantzis does love his football and will show every match he possibly can, if you aren't sure if he will be showing a match you want to watch, just ask him and he will be able to tell you.
Tuesday night is BBQ night! It really is so much fun. For 12€, you can have as much salad and meat as you can eat. You then get given a traditional Greek sweet. Its a fantastic way to mix with the other guests. After dinner, Frantzis sets up the Karaoke! I had never done karaoke before but it was hilarious, we all got involved and just had a really great time. We couldn't wait for the following week!
Bugs and creepy crawlies weren't a problem whilst we were there apart from the mosquito's, a few people had infected bites including myself but that can't be blamed on the hotel, its just the way it is! We saw a couple of black crickets at the hotel which are similar in appearance to cockroaches....until they jump/fly at you! They were completely harmless however. A few wasps around (horrible looking red ones) but leave them alone and they won't cause a problem.

I have read some of the reviews of Sunny View where people have said that the owners only gave them the time of day if they were eating at the hotel every night. We ate at the hotel a couple of times not counting the BBQ's, we were out every other night for dinner in Kardamena and the family treated us exactly the same as people that were eating at the hotel every night.

The family were always interested in where we had been if we had been out for the day and they always asked if we had a good time etc. When we went out in the evening, they would ask where we ate, what we thought of the restaurants etc.

We felt that we could easily speak to any of the family, ask their opinion on restaurants, sights and excursions. If there's anything you want to know about Kardamena or Kos, ask George or Frantzis, they will be happy to tell you about the history of the island etc.

The hotel is situated on a main road, next to a potentially dangerous junction. The 2 weeks we were there, we never witnessed an incident. The hotel is directly opposite the bus stop for Kardamena/Kos and is where the coach will pick you up for any excursions you book (if hotel pick up is provided). The bus to Kos costs 3.20€ per adult and takes between 30 - 45mins depending on the driver! If you turn right from the hotel, walk a little way down the road and take the first right turn, you can walk straight down to the beach (takes about 5mins). If you walk along the beach, you can walk to Kardamena in about 30mins. This walk is really nice and there are a few camouflaged bunkers along the beach which is quite interesting!
If you don't want to walk into Kardamena (or don't want to walk back), a taxi costs 6€ each way. You can ask George or Frantzis to call for a taxi for you from reception/the bar.

As you can see from a lot of the reviews, Sunny View gets a lot of repeat guests, we were one group out of maybe 5 other groups that we spoke to that were there for the first time. Every one of these groups said they would definitely be going back.
After 2 weeks with Frantzis, George and Katerina, they feel more like friends than owners of the hotel. They will do anything they can to make your stay as good as it can be. If you have any issues or problems with anything in the hotel, tell Frantzis and he will sort it out for you as much as he can.
If you like cocktails, Sunny View offers almost 60 different ones. None of which are made with the ready made cocktail mixes unlike most restaurants in Kardamena.

Air conditioning is 6€ per night and we found it extremely worth the money!

Thank you George, Katerina, Frantzis and Sunny for such a fantastic 2 weeks. It was my first visit to Greece, it definitely won't be my last. We will hopefully see you again next year!

My husband and I stayed at the Sunny View Hotel for three nights in the summer. The room was clean and spacious with an ocean view. It was quite a walk to the beach, but we enjoyed the exercise. The breakfast was very basic and we did not eat dinner at the hotel. We loved the family that owns and runs this place. George, his wife, and sons are extremely hospitable and make you feel right at home. They were very helpful and were able to provide us anything we needed. We enjoyed sitting with George at the bar at night and hearing his stories of Greece. We would definitely stay there again and have referred several friends.

3rd visit to Greece and 1st in 25 years and I fell in love with Greece again.

About 2 miles outside of Kardamana it is an easy walk into Kardamana and right on the bus route for Kardamana, airport and Kos Town. Room comfortable and adequate, we took our own travel kettle. features fridge, hairdryer and TV with Sky Sports News and Movies for Men. Bar area has as much Premiership football as your general testosterone fuelled male will require with up to 3 games at any one time. The bar area has free Wifi which becomes a bit patchy in the rooms.

The weekly BBQ night is good value and great fun. We went end of season so no kids around but hotel was generally full and we had no problems finding beds by the pool and the bar was never crowded.

The hotel generally caters for British and Italian guests and benefits from a lot of repeat guests many visiting more than once in any given season which is testament enough to the warm and friendly welcome that greats each and every visitor.

Frantzis' Gold Medal Coffee Milkshakes are to die for.

I would recommend the hotel for families, couples and friends, we will definitely be going back!!

As above I generally don't write reviews but I am making an exception. My fiancee booked our 2-week holiday, which we went on with her parents. After it had been booked, I looked around on the internet and found some bad reviews which I want to address for the benefit of any others looking to book a holiday at Sunny View.

The main complaints were about breakfast, George's pushiness with regards to attending the BBQ on a Tuesday night, problems with insects and the shower curtain being inadequate (meaning a soaking floor).

We paid a reasonable price for bed and breakfast at Sunny View and after reading reviews on other websites I did have concerns before we went about all of the above, which were completely gone after a day or two at the Hotel. Firstly, breakfast might be seen by some as basic, but the reviews saying the food was cheap and bad quality are complete rubbish. Rolls, bread (for toast or sandwiches), cornflakes, "coco pops", butter, a selection of jams, cheese and ham are all available, as well as some fruit. Coffee, hot water and tea bags are also provided for hot drinks and orange juice if you prefer. This is as the same every day but you can pay £3.50 for a cooked breakfast and still have as much tea/coffee/juice as you like. I heard no complaints about any of the food and don't have any of my own. If you get bored of the cold food available pay 3.50 euros and have a cooked breakfast which is very nice and cooked by Katerina.

We didn't find George at all pushy about the BBQ, and to be fair if you don't want to go then you're missing out. It's an evening well worth the money and the food is excellent and there was always plently. Food is followed by Karaoke which was always very entertaining!
George is very proud of his BBQ and his sons carry it off brilliantly.

The only problems we had with insects were mosquitos. I recommend taking some sort of repellent or insect spray with you if you do intend to visit Sunny View because they are a pest. This aside, you will only find the insects you'd expect to see in that part of the world. Crickets, moths and butterflies, flies, beetles etc etc none of which we had in our room (with the exception of mozzies of course). We did not see any cockroaches at all but did see some "bugs" which you could assume were cockroaches I suppose. Complete rubbish if anybody says otherwise re: cockroaches. Not a problem at all.

The shower curtain does it's job in helping to stop water getting on the floor, but the design of the bathrooms lends itself to a wet floor any way (with drainage outside of the shower tray for any water that does escape). You can minimise this obviously by having the shower curtain inside the tray. Our floor got wet every day when we showered but I don't see it as a basis to complain. It's a bathroom. It happens?!

Really only wanted to write a review to stop other people having the doubts I did. Our group of 4 were all very impressed with Sunny View and are eager to go back again next year! We were one of few groups who were staying at the hotel for the first time. Most have been going back for years and years and are very happy to keep spending their money there, as I will be over coming years.

The family are all lovely, friendly and approachable and Francis and George in particular are excellent and very whitty and entertaining. Both more like friends than members of staff by the end of two weeks and we were all very sad to have to leave them and can't wait to see them again in 2013.

Please do ignore bad reviews as I'm sure you won't be disappointed with Sunny View or the family who work had to make it the success it is - and if you do have any problems you only need to let someone know and they will work tirelessly to sort it for you.

Frances is a football fanatic and supports Liverpool and his Greek team, Olympiacos, who I'm pleased to report were beaten by Arsenal 3 goals to 1.
Thanks to all at Sunny View for a brilliant two weeks full of good memories and hopefully see you all again in 2013.
Alex
