“Wow, wow, WOW!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2011

We are NOW at the Mitsis Blue Domes Hotela and are loving every minute. This is one of the best holidays we have had in years. But before I begin with the positives, I want to make one note. This is not a place to come if you have problems climbing stairs. I am in fairly good shape. I am a non-smoker and used to walking. But as we are here with a baby and I am often carrying both him and his baby supplies. I find the walk from our room to the main dining area exhausting. A couple of months prior to arrival I contacted the General Manager of the hotel, Mr Fakes. I explained to Mr Fakes about our baby and requested a room closer to the main hotel. My request was ignored and instead our room is one of the furthest from the main dining area. This has been our biggest disappointment. The hotel grounds is built on a slope and there is a massive staircase leading to the main building. So, if you have special needs, or if you find walking uphill tiring, this is probably not the place for you.

Other than this, I would say that the staff of Mitsis Blue Domes is one of the hardest working and most committed I have seen. The design of the hotel is amazing. It is a beautiful hotel with a stunning series of pools and a beautiful sea view. Our room, a "family room" is very large. It is two level, with a master bedroom and bathroom upstairs, and a living area and bathroom downstairs. Our view is to the garden, but we have a nice sitting area, a patio near a grassy area. It is a perfect room for a family with a small child.

Also excellent for families is a wonderful childrens play area, managed by a British woman who works tirelessly to keep the place not only clean and organized but fun for the children as well. She and her staff watch over their children carefully. The children's area is like a small disney world, with a real carousel, several swings, slides, teter-toters and a nice swimming pool in the shape of a moat around the castle, which serves as the children's playhouse. The play house is organized like a classroom with ongoing activities and non-stop entertainment. Very nice indeed.

The children's area is not only great for people with kids, it is great for people without kids. Probably because of the well managed children's area, which is a magnet for the hotel's kids, the other swimming pools are practically devoid of babies making them very quiet and relaxing. If you are here without kids, you may not notice how many they are, except for during breakfast when the children's area is not yet opened.

We have stayed in many all inclusives and have found that one of the sacrifices is the food quality. Usually the food at all inclusive hotels is chotic, dull and repetitive. Not at Blue Domes. There 3 main dining areas. First, in the main restaurant a buffet style dining area, second in the 6 snack restaurants near the pool area and third, the ala cart restaurants near the beach. Of these three dining areas, the BEST is the ala cart restaurants, the next best is the snack restaurants and, not surprisingly the buffet style dining area the least interesting. The good news is that you can book the ala cart restaurants everyday, and we try to do that. The quality of the food and the atmosphere of the ala cart restaurants is similar that of any quality restaurant you may visit. There are 4, Greek, Mexican, Asian and Italian. Of the 4, we have tried 3 (Mexican is tonight) and the Asian is the best. But they are all very good. The snack area restaurants near the pool are almost as good. For example, one of the snack restaurants, is a sushi restaurant which serves some of the best sushi we have eaten. The main dining area, while very nice for an all inclusive, does have a tendancy of being repetitive and lower quality. Particulary disappointing is breakfast, which features limp waffles, canned fruits and tastless artificial nectar, rather than fruit juice (as is the case of most Greek hotels). But they do their best to please. As an example, we requested baby food for our very fussy little eater. Yiota, the manager of the food and beverage team did her very best to please him, and offered every kind of food she could manage. Unfortunately, he is very difficult and would not eat anything she offered, but we were very impressed with the effort she and her team made. Thanks again to Yiota.

If animation teams are important to you, you may be disappointed here. We like the fact that the animation team is not "ever present". We find in some hotels that the animation team adds to the chaos and makes it hard to relax. At Blue Domes, we really only notice the animation team during the evening entertainment. We have seen notices of daytime activities, but perhaps since we are usually with our baby in the children's area, we have not participated in any hotel activiites. The result is that the hotel has a rather quiet and relaxed, elegant atmosphere. Perhaps too quiet for some, but just the way we like it.

All-in-all, this has been an incredible holiday. We will DEFINATELY return to this incredible place. We may even try other hotels of the Mitsis chain. But the next time we will be more insistant about getting a room closer to the main dining area.

We just returned from a week's stay and wanted to say what a great hotel. We have travelled all over the world and this is up there with the nicest. Lovely modern rooms, great choice of places to eat, all included free and no restrictions to the number of visits to the a la carte (only requirement is to book the previous day). We had great service from all the staff who were pleasant and helpful. Beach isn't sandy but water was crystal clear (although a bit cold this early in the season). With the choice of places to eat and proper drinks we didn't feel the need to venture into Kardamena which was about 10 minute drive away. We did however hire a quad through the hotel excursions on the last day as we checked out at 12 and had a late pick up to the airport. We managed to travel the whole island in the afternoon on the quad and can recommend this.

We have just returned from a very enjoyable 1 week holiday at the blue domes on Kos. On our arrival we were met by Xristos who is a very amiable luggage porter who always had time for a chat whenever our paths crossed, the Hotel has a very good selection of restaurants to chose from & over the week we were there we tried most of them for either lunch or dinner and enjoyed them all.
The General manager mr Fakes and his staff were all pleasant, efficient & well presented. As some of the restaurants are very popular It can be quite tough to get in to them but the managment team do their best & if you dont get the one that you want you can always go to the main restaurant which has a good & varied buffet style.
The Hotel complex itself is very attractive & stylish with the rececption ,restaurant and bar in the main building with the rooms and pools set in a tier system built down a hill to a good shingle beach.
the room was very good.Spacious, bright and beautifully clean.
The pools are good but deeper than they look so if you are taking small children please be alert to the danger.
if you are looking for a stylish all inclusive break the Blue dmes would be an excellant choice.
There is nothing there other than the blue domes & a couple of other Mitsis hotels. It is
about to 2.5 miles from kardamena which is a 10 euro taxi ride from the hotel or an hours walk along the coast road, the town is not very attractive and really only worth going into to book tours or take the ferry to Nisyros which is a Volcanic island that is realy quite unspoit and you can take a tour up to the Volcano and walk down into the still active crater but be warned there are no steps and the path is uneven so not suitable for everyone. The other trip we would reccomend is a day trip to Bodrum in Turkey but dont bother with the free tour which takes you around the town but you then have to go to the goldsouk and wait for a bus back in to town. This is a waste of time.

Great place, great holiday! We spent 1 week at the Mitsis Blue Domes hotel and had a great, great time! The weather was good for an early May trip except for the first two days when there was too much wind (cold wind...). The room was perfect and very big (we had a family room with a sea view). It was cleaned every day and they were bringing extra towels in the evening. The mini bar was filled in every day with soda, water and beer. Every kind of alcohol could be found at the bars though. I had read comments where people were saying that Greek people were not really nice and I need to say that we ran into very nice people every day, from the reception desk to the bar, restaurant and the cleaning ladies. True that you need to speak English as there are very very few people speaking French and many clients are coming from Russia. We were really impressed by the choice and the quality of the food. It was good in every places of the hotel, at the main restaurant or other restaurants along the swimming pools or down at the beach (Italian, Greek, Mexican and Asian restaurants + snack bar). A very good all inclusive hotel as you have additional places to eat in the afternoon (or at lunch time) with burgers, sushi, pasteries and ice creams, and others around the bar of the swimming pool. The Mistis Wonderland club for the kids is indeed wonderful with a nice and large swimming area in the middle of slides, swings, seesaw and even a carroussel (specific time during the day when it was on and for free!). There were long chairs at the place so parents could lay down and enjoy the sun while the kids were playing on the grass or in the water. Even though we did not leave our 4 year old girl to the mini club we were able to go inside the club and play with every game that were there. The employees there were very nice with every kid including our, suggesting some activities every time we were there. There are slides outside the hotel (that can be seen from the hotel) and that are part of the Mitsis resort. It is only a 5mn walk and is a place to go with kids as the slides are good for them. You can also find a snack bar there. There is also a small game room below the main restaurant with computers but coins are needed there. The Mistis Blue Domes resort is definitively a place to go with kids and if you like high standards and good food. The only comment on the hotel I would add is that the water of swimming pools was very cold (very few people in the water by the way) but it may be hotter during summer. I would have expected not every swimming pools to be heated as there were far too many but at least one for the adults and the one for the kids. That would be something you expect for the standard of the resort.Something to know about the weather on the island is that it is always very windy so if you do not like the wind it may be best to go somewhere else or make sure you have a sweater for the evenings.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2011

We have just returned yesterday from a weeks stay at Blue Domes and I cannot stress how upset I was to be coming home. I have never ever stayed anywhere like it in my life, for all the right reasons.

It is just a short 20 minute ride from the airport which was good as our flights were late at night.

We arrived and were immediately taken back by the size of the complex, it isn't a hotel it is literally a resort in itself. IT'S HUGE!

We were checked in by the very friendly reception staff and given stickers for our luggage, the staff then took us and our luggage to our room by mini bus. Yeah, it really is that big that they supply club cars for internal transfers.

We had a bungalow room. The decor in the room was very tasteful and modern, beautiful lights, you have a choice of a bath and a stand up shower. a telephone by the toilet ;-). All bathroom ammentities are supplied, such as a shaving mirror, a hair dryer which is free, bath robes and slippers etc. We had a bottle of wine and fruit on arrival. A fully stocked mini bar which is all in with your all inclusive, has beer, pepsi, 7 up, water etc. All rooms have free air conditioning, again something I have had to pay for elsewhere. Also, rooms have flatscreen 26inch televisions all with various worldwide channels etc.

The hotel decor itself is also very tasteful and modern. Beautiful chandeliers and wooden swiss style furnished ceilings and balconies etc.

The hotel had one main restaurant which is a buffet, and serves a wide range of beautiful cuisines. Although I do agree that food does sometimes go cold due to having to stand and queue at the buffet. But it depends what you select. There really is something for everyone

The hotel also has 10 theme ala carte restaurants. Asian, Mexican, Greek, Italian, German, Creperie, Ouzerie, Sushi, Burger Bar, Pita Kebabs. We used the creperie, greek, asian, pita kebabs and the burger bar. All were lovely and the food was amazing. The staff work very hard and provide a fantastic service.

The hotel has about 14 swimming pools, all are cleaned daily and are very big. It also has a jacuzzi though this wasn't on when we were there. But we did see someone doing some work on it, so perhaps it was broken? The brochure descriptions are very misleading as they say it has an "indoor pool" which, well technically I suppose it does, but it is only by appointment as a spa treatment and it is at a charge of €15 for 50 minutes. You can't just go and use it.

Can't really say much about the spa as we didn't use it, but heard from a few people who had looked around it or used it, that it was very nice.

The hotel also has it's own private beach, no paying for sunbeds, they are free. The beach bar staff are lovely and friendly, they also serve sandwiches and toasties down there etc. There is also a watersports centre and you can use pedaloes and canoes for free as part of the all inclusive, you just pay a deposit against any possible damage etc. There is also other watersports at an extra charge, like jetskis etc.

Hotel has plenty of bars, the lobby, main bar, and the pool bar etc. All are great, and the staff are fantastic. With the exception of Bacardi and sometimes Smirnoff they don't serve any well known brands.

I wouldn't recommend the hotel for anyone who had walking difficulties as it is very large and you have to walk up either a hill or steps to get to the restaurant each day.

It has a lovely "Wonderland" for children all done out like a Cinderella castle almost, it does say that it has a Zoo usually, which houses small domestic animals, however we went in low season so the animals weren't there yet.

Also for adults and kids alike the hotel has it's own small water park with 2 slides for big kids/adults and a small one for very small children. Which was good fun. There is even a bar on the water park serving drinks and slush puppy etc.

The hotel lets itself down on entertainment, the guy with his keyboard in the main bar is there every night and can get a bit repetitive. Certainly not good if you don't like Elvis. Animation team did put effort in to try and put events on, but it didn't seem well advertised enough, it could perhaps have been better.

All of the staff of the hotel were very friendly, and very very hard working, it was disappointing that some other guests were openly very rude and ignorant towards the staff. If you do go don't be one of those people, the staff are the friendliest of people and they work so hard to make your holiday special. They deserve all the thanks on the earth. One thing we noticed while we were there, day, afternoon and night, the staff never ever stopped cleaning and making sure the hotel was kept lovely and nice at all times. 10/10 for that, they kept it spotless every hour of the day.

Hotel also has a mini market, a souvenir shop and jewelers too.

I feel I should say the main negative for me, was lighting in some areas at night could be improved. I went from the bar to my room for my camera in the dark. On the return journey my path was obstructed by a car meaning what bit of light there was, was now non existent and I had to go to the left slightly. I couldn't see where I was going and tripped over a very small almost flat terracotta pot filled with gravel. (Presumably for cigarette ends). I damaged my camera and cut my arm and kneecap. So yeah, not so good. I didn't make such a big deal, but my only concern was if it had been a young child or if I had fell down the stairs. Also an apology from the lady I told at reception would of been nice when I mentioned about lack of lighting, but I settled for a dab of iodine, a few plasters and "brave boy" :-)

We did had a lovely time, was very very upset to have to come home. Have never ever stayed anywhere so beautiful. It literally has everything. Also if you decide to book, don't be sucked into paying extra for pool view or sea view. 80% of the rooms have the views anyway.

Only bad bits were

Queuing in the main restaurant
Could perhaps benefit from more toilets
Needs better lighting in areas at nightime

Room Tip: Dont pay extra for views, all rooms have them

We have just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel, i have to agree with others that the hotel is stunning and the rooms lovely and clean, the staff are very friendly and work really hard to keep the hotel runninng, especially Farah in the bar area. However we are not fussy eaters and do not eat five star at home but the food was cold most of the times and having to queue for certain items made it colder, i am talking about in the main restaurant not the Al La Carte. We had a few problems with our room electrics and being locked out of our room and the mini bar not being filled but to be fair once we told them they did come and sort the problems out, What bothered us the most and other guests we spoke to was the fact that guest from another hotel had been moved into this one and the guests did not always behave as well as you would expect them to in a 5 star hotel, again not the Hotels fault how people behave. We had a nice break but would not return to this hotel as we have been to better all inclusives.

Room Tip: All the rooms had nice views
