We arrived on the 15th May this happened to be the day after it opened! So I suppose that this needs to be borne in mind when reading this review.
This hotel was part of the Helios group and has been closed for 3 years and is in no way connected to the Carda beach resort at the other end of Kardamena.
People arriving on an all inclusive package will be disappointed if they have not read through what the hotel provides with regards to drinks etc. The alcohol allowed on the package is local brandy, Ouzo, wine, be aware the red is served chilled and not very good ,although I was assured by the manager that it was Appelleo and beer. Other drinks can be purchased at 3.5 euros a time but when we were there there was a lack of anything else.
The food was on the whole tasty and edible and lunches seemed to be better than dinner in terms of choice. There were fresh salads to choose from and the breads were good. Breakfast was the same and after trying to be healthy with yogurt and fruit a few days the lack of other components seemed to be a problem. As usual in these type of hotels toasting bread left you losing the will to live with the time that it took.
There was much confusion in the beginning as to what was to be included such as a lack of the advertised snacks and nothing available in the evening. When they did they were the left overs from the day and stale.
The staff were without fail very polite and willing to help. There were a lot of polish staff and language was a barrier. They have two bar staff Lisa an English girl who works during the day and Kasia who works evenings. She was a Polish girl who had lived on Kos for about 5 years. Both of whom deserve both a medal and a mention. The Manager seemed unwilling to listen to our complaints even though I sought him out and spoke to him.
The rooms were spacious and very clean with plenty of storage space and a hair dryer. They were cleaned every day and fresh linen and towels provided. We did have a problem with noise both from neighbour's, the general running of the hotel and the wild life!! We had a partial sea view from our balcony.
The pool was spacious and had 2 water slides. There was confusion in the beginning about the maintainability of the pool and on a couple of days it looked murky but I have to say that this was seeming to resolve it's self and got better as our stay went on we did witness a lot of checking down to the guy even drinking the water!!! bit excessive we thought !!
There was, when we were there, no entertainment although we had been told that there would be. The Managers idea was to have 4 classical music tracks on a loop including Bellero playing out day and night at different levels. We were amongst many that complained to the the staff and the Manager. In the end my husband took it on his-self to seek out the machine and turn it off!
The T.V. in the room never worked although we complained twice and it had one news channel in English. Although we don't watch T.V. whilst away we would have liked to have got what was promised and to have been able to catch up with the news as the ash cloud was an issue whilst away.
The walk in to Kardamena took about 10 to 15 minutes to reach the end of the village. There were lots of bars and places closed. The places that we did visit, and ate at, were good and the locals very friendly and we liked it.
We hired a dune buggy for a couple of days and saw all that we wanted to see. It was good fun and a good way to see the island. Petrol is expensive and dearer than in England as we found last year in Greece. The cost of living is more than the U.K. and supermarket prices sometimes make your eyes water.
There are sunbeds on the beach that is down the lane from the hotel as of yet there is nothing denoting that these belong to the hotel and as such are open to all. There is no beach bar. The sea is lovely and clear but the shore line as with all of Kardamena is pebbly and I would advise beach shoes.
The hotel attracts by it's own system a 4* rating I would suggests that it has aspirations to be so.
To me 4* have the following
Provision of good quality sun beds with mats
Provision of beach and pool towels without a deposit.
Proper satallite T.V.
Tea and coffee making facilities or room service.
More comprehensive food and drink menu.
A more polished service.
The guests are very mixed English, Polish, German, Italian and lots of Eastern Europeans. Not sure how this will work when the entertainment starts. Lots of babies.
If you have had all inclusive holidays before do not confuse it with what you will get here this is more full board plus. You will need to leave the hotel a lot to fulfill your holiday.
The hotel will get there I hope and the basis is there for it to do so but the manager needs to listen to feedback.
If this review is negative it is because we experienced a lot of niggles due to the opening. I don't mean to put anyone off go and have a good time.
