“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

The most outstanding part of this hotel were the staff, very hard working and always cheerful, very high level of service. The food was amazing and the rooms were comfortable. The only downside was, if you had a shower later than 18:00 it was often cold, but it didn't matter too much since it was nice to cool down, even though the rooms had air conditioning.

Hello Jacqueline!

Thank you very much for taking the time to add your review on Meandros hotel and for sharing your thoughts with the rest of us.

On behalf of all the staff and family I would like to say a huge thank you for your kind words on our staff and for giving them such a big credit for their work and character. It was a our pleasure to keep you happy and take care of you the best way we can.

Please accept our apologies for the cold shower you had. Even though refreshing after a warm sunbathing. Sometimes during peak hours when everyone is showering the hot water needs some more time to travel through. We hope that this did not cause any trouble to you.

Well, that was just a note from us to say a very big thank you for your positive words. We all hope that we will have the chance to see you back again at Meandros. Until we meet again, have a nice time back home and always smile..xx

We have just returned from 10 nights at the Meandros and want to go back already! This was our second time here and have never stopped in a hotel like it.

We were given a lovely spacious room overlooking the pool. The only thing wrong was that when it got to about 7pm (probably when everybody else was showering too) the hot water did not work. Although, this is not really something to complain about as in the hot weather a cold shower is nice.

We ate in the hotel 4 nights and the food was great, and the waiters George and Peter were so friendly and helpful.

The location of the hotel is ideal...it is close enough to the main street with all the bars and restaurants, but far enough away for you to relax out of the hustle and bustle. There are some great places to go in Kalamaki, I would definately recommend Heavens Kitchen for an amazing meal, and Hakuna Matata bar for some delicious drinks and brilliant entertainment. I would also recommend Cave Bar however make sure you are wearing mozzie spray!

What made our holiday though was the bar staff, Jason and Mario were brilliant! They made you feel so welcome and involved. We got to know them really well and they are what kept us there and would make us return. Jason makes the best cocktails, he is such good company and is a real asset to the hotel. He let us know of all the good places to go in Zante, and even took us to a beautiful bar up in the hills in Zante town. Mario kept us laughing all holiday, he got to know everybody, and everyone else at the hotel seemed to love him too! Mario is on his feet all the time making sure everyone is happy, and he deserves a medal for the long hours he works, he never stops! We would return to the Meandros just for Jason and Mario alone!

We would recommend this hotel to anybody! It is very good value for the level of care and attention given to make your holiday as perfect as possible.

All in all we had a great holiday and can't wait to come back!

We have just returned from the Meandros Hotel in Kalamaki Greece we have had a great holiday. From getting off the bus on arrival day the staff were amazing, greeting us with really welcoming cold tropical cocktails. Dina the receptionist was so lovely and pleasant and it was like being greeted by an old friend. Our room was huge the bed was maasooive we had air con, full kitchen facility, even though we were half board , but the fridge was great for freezing bottles of water to take to the beach, a balcony with a view of the pool and bar area which was good to spend an hour or so after a hard days sunbathing. The food was excellent throughout and I must thank George our waiter for the full holiday he really did look after us, knowing that we preferred to eat on the balcony he was quick sharp each night preparing our table. All of the staff at the hotel make it theri mission to get to know you and always have time to talk about the resort giving great tips on places to visit. We hired a car and got out and about to see the full island and saw some spectacular views. We did the shipwreck by ourselves driving to the port nearest the wreck and buying tickets at 15 euros each for a small boat with a captain and about 15 other people which was much better than going on one of the organised trips which take about 40 to 50 people at a time, we spent 3 amazing hours swimming in aqua blue waters investigating caves and small beautiful coves with soft white sand. I would recommend visiting Kalamaki to anyone and the hotel Meandros would be a first choice for a great holiday.

As soon as we arrived at the Meandros Hotel we were greeted with friendliness and a very welcome soft drink. Dina, the very friendly and efficient receptionist, showed us to our room - 204 on the 1st floor - and explained everything we needed to know.

The room was spacious and had all that we needed - a fridge, a kitchen "in a cupboard", air con (free of charge), safety deposit box (for a minimal charge), TV, hairdryer etc. The bathroom had a shower and a bath (never had this luxury in any of the other Greek hotels we have stayed in). The balcony, too, was spacious with table and chairs - a good outlook too with views of the garden and mountains beyond.

The room was kept spotless by a hard working and efficient cleaning team - towels were changed every day.

We were on a half board basis and found the food to be very good. A wide choice for every meal with plenty of Greek dishes to choose from - vegetarian dishes too with the aubergine cooked in tomato, garlic and olive oil being a special favourite.

Staff, with the exception of one ( this matter has since been efficiently resolved) were professional, friendly and helpful. A special mention must go to Peter and Dina who were exceptional. Chloe the breakfast chef was a joy and took pleasure in teaching us some useful Greek phrases - everything she cooked was "poli nostima"

We ate our meals on the outdoor balcony and thoroughly enjoyed each one - nothing like eating out alfresco when the sun shines each and every day!

The Meandros was ideally situated with only a short stroll to the beaches and tavernas, supermarket, shops etc. being equally close by.

We hired a car for a few days from the rental company directly opposite the hotel and found them to be very efficient and reasonably priced. This allowed us to explore more of the island and we discovered beautiful scenery and many lovely little villages up in the mountains.

Altogether a very comfortable and enjoyable stay at the Meandros. We would have no hesitation at all in recommending this hotel to anyone.

Thank you Meandros for a very enjoyable holiday.

From the moment we arrived we were met with such warmth & friendliness by the staff & so helpful. We emailed the hotel to request a higher room but were given a ground floor one at the back overlooking a narrow back garden, so asked if we could have a higher room, but had to spend the first night in the room we were allocated, the next morning we were given a lovely room on 2nd floor but only for 4 nights; we would have liked to have stayed in this room but were told it was needed by other guests as the room we were in fact given a 'superior room' wasn't as nice on the first floor overlooking the pool & not very private as the room was quite near to the steps up to the restaurant & pool area; but we made the best of it, we were asked by the manageress if we liked the room but told her we would still have preferred the higher floor, to be fair she asked if we wanted to move but this would have been the 3rd time so stuck with it. I think it is just a question of luck when one books as some couples seem to have a family room! One or two niggly things ie the variety of food was poor & quite repetitive that it did seem to be recycled on occasions (as mentioned by another review) - the best night was the Greek night when it was served Al Fresco & excellent. The waiters Peter and George were so pleasant & did their job well in the restaurant.

Have to agree again with Angela572212 about Maria who worked so hard during the day on the bar & was so helpful & pleasant. Do not want to appear too critical as all the staff work hard but Mario was a bit too much over the top and intrusive and thought he ran the hotel, yes, 18-30s hotel would be better suited for him. In fact I tried to avoid him as he became quite irritating! But this is only a personal opinion and a lot of the guests really liked him and seemed to like his attention.

I would definitely return to the Meandros but would prefer bed & breakfast, if they did that.

Overall a lovely holiday and the village of Kalamaki is so nice & surrounded by pretty counryside. Some really friendly tavernas & bars, especially Al Sandros & Mojito cocktail bar; the Cave Bar is a must to go & have a cocktail overlooking the fantastic bay especially at sunset!

Room Tip: Having had an experience with our room, would telephone the hotel prior to booking & request the...

Hello Redvirgo!

Thank you so much for taking the time to add your review on meandros hotel and for sharing your thoughts with the rest of us here.

First of all we would like to thank you for your kind words on our staff and especially Maria. She is a very hard working person loving her job very much and we are proud o have her in our family. On behalf of Mario, we would would like to apologize is he made you feel somehow uncomfortable. He is a very nice young person full of energy for life and work. Sometimes his over enthusiasm can ride him over the top and we are sorry if he was misunderstood in that way. We had already gave him a notice so this will not happen again in the future.

As for your room allocation, we would like you to know that any special remarks sent prior to arrivals are always subject to availability. When our hotel is fully booked that leaves us with no options and our flexibility is very tight. In our email corresponding we never promise something that we cannot fulfill. Nevertheless, when we we always try to do our best to allocate every single remark of our guests until we find the solution that better suit everyone’s needs. I hope that the rooms you finally stayed in was the one that made you feel comfortable.

As I have previously said, the food handling in our restaurant must be done with a specific method that our health and safety guidelines require according to the HACCP. Reheating food more than once can let bacteria grow in food so we do not follow this practice as our procedure is not allowing this. Internal inspections are planned in our restaurant on a weekly basis and all major European tour operators are going monthly inspection so as to check our health and safety standards.
As you can understand we have to follow to a strict program as we feel that health and safety in our hotel is of major importance.

We do hope that next time you visit our hotel we will make sure you have wonderful meals in our restaurant and our chef Nikos will be here to take care of you the best way he can.
Thank you very much for taking the time to go through our response. We all wish you have warm winter back home and take care. Regards from all the staff and family.

Highly recommendable.. We took a group to the Meandros for part of a Greek experience. We were extremely satisfied with the Meandros....elegant, friendly, safe, literally beside wonderful tavernas (Try Contessinas, down the road) and shops. Staff were very friendly, knowledgable, pleasant & polite. We would have no hesitation in returning to the Meandros. We have also stayed at their sister hotel in town...The Diana on Marcos Square. Same attributes can be applied to both..Enjoy Zakynthos..
