“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this hotel, was excellent choice to have made, brilliant food and first class hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2011

First class service Mikka the receptionist was excellent very helpfull and friendly to everyone. The waiters and bar staff were brilliant too.
Our room was very comfortable, would have liked a bath stopper but we improvised with the upturned top off the shaving foam which worked brilliantly.
The beach was a 2 minute stroll down the road and it took just 5-10 minutes to walk into KALAMAKI town , taxi's were available outside the hotel also the local bus which you could get at the top of the street took you to Laganas and Zante town for 1.60 euros each way which was excellent value.
We frequented the Irish Bar and Rose and Crown Bar most evenings, but we did have a lovely meal in the Olive Tree on our last night which was excellent well worth going.
We actually liked the fact that no one pestered you and that the amenities were very close at hand, the Food was first class at the hotel plenty of choice for breakfast and evening meal. overall a wonderful time was had by both of us.

I returned from Zante yesterday after booking a last minute holiday with my friend....This hotel was absolutely lovely for the money we paid .. i was worried about going after reading people reviews but you have absolutely nothing to worry about ... The location is ideal as its right next to the beach and away from the noise of the pubs and clubs .. the staff are fab especially Mikka who recommended the best beaches and viewpoints on the island to us, she will do anything to help you and to make sure you have a great stay. . Every member of staff was helpful, fun and friendly and they worked very hard. They always smiled and said hello.. the food was basic and didnt look much but tasted delicious, diffrent types of salad every day which were lovely and the beef , pork and chicken melted in your mouth. Some people forget that your in a foreign country so why on earth would you expect a cooked breakfast. We also ate out at excellent restaurants on the strip .. I highly recommend Buon Amici for italian and Ambrosia for greek and steaks etc... The waiters at Ambrosia were all friendly would come to your table and chat to you. they even done a turklish dance for us around flames which was entertaining they couldnt do enough to please you .. Highly recommended !!!!.. All in all the hotel grounds were stunning, the shower wasnt ideal in the toilet but ok and as far as having to put your toilet paper in the bins provided instead of the toilet that was the case for the whole island and not just our hotel wether you stayed in 2 star or 5 everyone had to do the same.. The planes do fly right next to hotel as we are near the airport but the noise doesnt bother you its actully fascinateing watching them and there are no more than 5 planes allowed on the island at anytime so its not constant....

Not suitable for famlies as children are NOT catered for. Playground non-existant, No pool toys, Expensive to play pool or table tennis. Food is NOT suitable for children, Hotel is too hot for babies and small children (hotel air con only on when people complain) Beach itself is lovely, just book in somewhere else. Room OK but NOT as pictured, our room A/C faulty and NOT working at all, took hotel 6 days to fix. Staff were generally Rude, Abusive and Arrogant, Bar area is OK, with cold beer, but TV is NOT as we know it! Don't know where they have the pictures on the web site from - our bathroom was at a very very poor standard. Breakfast limited in choice but ok if you enjoy tinned peaches for breakfast EVERYDAY, with tomato and mushroom. No sausages or bacon!! LOCALS refer to this hotel as the MORGUE its very dull at night, no atmosphere, and guests tend to go out, as nothing to do. Hotel is NOT suitable for Couples or anyone looking for a HOLIDAY, as you'll spend most time complaining. It is generally clean though, don't know where the gym or spa is at this hotel - we couldn't find it, neither could the staff or other guests. No secure luggage area, after being chucked out of room at 12 noon for the following mornings flight home. No bed, no room extension, poor attitude. We will not return here

Room Tip: Last breakfast time is 09.30 - not ideal unless you've gone to bed early. Book somewhere else. T...

Our party consisted of two adults and a 12 year old. We booked a last minute getaway less than 48 hours prior to departure and ended up at the Golden Sun. A lovely hotel in well kept surroundings. Receptionist Mikka was particularly cheerful and helpful. The rest of the staff were very friendly and all worked incredibly hard. A minor problem with our room was resolved quickly (so quickly in fact that a maintenance man had arrived at the room before I had returned from reporting it at the reception!) Rooms were basic but clean. No plugs and toilet paper can't be flushed down the toilet as the drainage system cant cope. Showering without shower curtains wets the whole bathroom but it really wasn't a problem. I've been in far worse bathrooms. Contrary to other reviews, we had air conditioning (much needed!) 24 hours each day and weren't charged for this. Food was nothing special but always a good choice and hot. More fresh fruit and veg would have been appreciated but even the fussiest eaters really should be able to find something to keep them going. The nearby airport and low flying planes were a novelty rather than a nuisance and we found it fun to watch! We weren't disturbed by noise during the night at all. We had to check out at 12 noon but weren't flying home until 8am the following day. This seems to be the norm for many package hols. The 40€ to retain a room after checkout was well worth it. The hotel is well located, 2 mins walk from excellent beach and 5-10 mins from central Kalamaki and the bars and shops. Ambrosia restaurant is well worth a visit. We booked with Thomas Cook. The Shipwrecked tour was good but be wary of the Turtle Trip they offer as we felt the reality of it- far too many people packed on a boat fruitlessly looking for Turtles- was not quite as advertised. However, this was not the hotel's responsibility and all things considered I'd definitely recommend the Golden Sun

At first we stayed at Hoel Palatino in Zakynthos town but wanted to change hotel to something closer to the beach. They sent us to Golden Sun and we really had a good time here. The rooms are very basic, nothing fancy at all but we were only in the room when we wanted to sleep so basic was good enough.
The hotel is very nice, reminds me of the houses in Spain acctually. Has a nice poolarea, loungearea och a basic diningroom where we had our breakfast. The best of all was the staff, very easy to talk to and they gave us tips and ideas för things to do and places to visit, places to eat etc.
The hotel is only a 2 minute walk from the beach which is lovely. It is the beach where the seaturtles come and lay their eggs, very cool:) It is also very nice to take a walk on the beach to the next town Laganas and have dinner and then take a walk back and watch the sunset. I really recommend this hotel.

Arrived to a very pleasant reception lady, who really seemed to mind, and so did the rest of the staff. All polite and very friendly!
The rooms were basic, the standard hard, greek beds, nice size bathroom, but only with a bathtub (no shower hook). Cleaning and fresh towels everyday.
We opted for the morning buffet, lots of different things but less options and higher standart of the food would have suited me better..

The hotel is in the outskirts of Kalamaki (bare in mind it's a small town!), which kept you pleasantly away from the hassle of the main road and all the english boys on their quadbikes!
Around 400m from the really nice beach in the middle of a seaturtle area.

All in all a nice experience, but I but not so nice that I need to stay there again.

Good value for money hotel only 100m from Turtle Beach, take a taxi from the Airport only 5 minutes & £10. Kalamaki Town offers loads of good restraurants & bars but very laid back, Crystal Beach next door is worth a visit, All day boat trip round the island from Zante harbour (booked & free pick up, in Kalamaki) fantastic value at £20 each calling in at Smugglers Cove & 3 other coves for swimming. Quad bikes seem the norm for getting about to sight see and at £35 per day let us see most of the Island (need driving licence) .
We will definitley go back but no later than June (35 plus degrees).
