“Spacious Chalets in Verdant Gardens on the Ockavango River”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

Tambuti Lodge pays great respect to the local crafts, particularly the finely carved woodwork, both in the form of furnishings and carved railings, newels and balustrading in the common entertaining areas. The gardens are currently being redesigned to accommodate flora more appropriate to the climate. This seems to be disturbing some of the reptile life as there are many signs alerting guests to the presence of local snakes. Sadly I saw none. Our very spacious room with separate antique style bathroom was airy, light and comfortable. The verandah was beautifully positioned to give the best view of the garden foreground and the river in the background. The dinner served on the verandah next to the main reception area was simple , substantial and very tasty. Pepper soup is highly recommended. Breakfast in the bar at the bottom of the garden adjacent to the river was sumptuous and very tasty. This is a very good value for money establishment in a quiet part of the rather zany town of Rundu. As a previous reviewer has said, "an oasis".

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bath. Chalet 1 is superb

This place is great and like I have said an oasis in a crazy town. Walking distance to shopping and down to the river. Food is good and so is the service, if you want AC you have to pay a few $ extra to get the clicker for the ac unit. Hopefully for there sake the construction in Rundu is soon done and over with. Its just behind the Shoprite and next to the Rundu police station

Room Tip: they are all good

We did not have too high expectations. We just planned a not too expensive stop-over on our way to Caprivi. But, what a nice surprise! Big comfortable rooms, a beautiful lush garden with flowers and exotic fruits, very skilled and friendly staff, good food with a Kavango touch in the restaurant and more local surprises at breakfast.
We stayed at Tambuti on our way back as well and were just as pleased. A bonus is that Tambuti can help to arrange visits at the living museum nearby or a boat cruise on the Kavango. We did both.

I spent a very pleasant couple of days here over New Year despite the noise from the neighbouring beach. The staff were very friendly and provided a welcome efficient service with a smile. The food was exquisite and prepared with care - authentic local dishes which are often difficult to come across in tourist lodges such as fresh river fish with pap. The room was very comfortable and beautifully located in a lush garden. I'd definitely recommend trying this place out if you want to experience customer service at its best in Namibia. Just remember to take some good earplugs!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back, away from the beachfront.

Stumbled across this property by accident when we fled a nearby river front property booked by a travel agent who failed to inform us that electricity was turned off at 8pm every night. A bit too rough for us! So off we went on a treasure hunt for more appropriate lodging, reinforcing my long held belief that one should always research accommodations independently.

When I say we looked at every property in Rundu, I do not exaggerate. We were so relieved to find this property next to the Kavango River. Tambuti is located away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Rundu and has a lovely appearance from the exterior with wonderful landscaping and neat cottages which was very inviting. The very friendly front desk staff welcomed us and gave us a tour of available rooms. All of them were very nice and we selected a really spacious, nicely decorated room close to the parking area. Designed as a studio suite, the comfortable bed with mosquito netting was on one side with a sitting table and chairs and the very large bathroom/dressing area occupied the other side of the space.

We thought this was a great hotel and will definitely return next time we cross the Caprivi Strip.

We stayed here for two nights in two double rooms at the end of June 2012. The grounds were well-maintained with secure parking in a pleasant setting near Rundu beach. The rooms were nicely decorated with comfortable beds, however, the shower/tub had some minor drainage issues (floor flooded a little) and because the ceilings are not completely attached, the rooms are not sound-proof. (We found this out the hard way when we were awoken by very loud music from a concert which lasted roughly from 11pm-3am. The manager, Patrick, said the music was coming from the market area in town and that several times a year these concerts go on all night. He said amusingly, "This is Africa! What do you expect?" It sounded like someone was blasting a stereo inside our room--It was that loud! So, we recommend bringing some heavy-duty earplugs if you plan on staying there, just in case. We were also there the last Friday of the month--pay day--which translates to "loud Friday night". That's what the staff told us. :) The breakfast spread was very nice and the breakfast kitchen staff members were pleasant--choice of English breakfast with eggs, bacon, and toast, or a continental buffet. The lodge is also starting to offer dinner and my friends said the chicken curry dish they ordered was delicious and served in a generous portion. However, the dinner/reception staff could be a little more professional. They at times seemed reluctant to answer our questions and instead just kind of hung out together. If they resolve some of these issues with service, sound-proof the rooms, and find a reliable Internet provider (or not advertise that they have wifi, as to get guests' hopes up!), this place would be a great deal for the area. But, overall, it worked!

Sorry to hear you booked while there was a concert in town, the walls reach the ceiling, so the insulation is OK, after all its Africa (as i mentioned correctly smile) one day you hear the birds only and one week its music from somewhere. EVERY establishment in town was exposed to this (not only Tambuti) even in the nearby village it was heard..depending on the wind ...( and wooden built lodges wont be more sound proof) ours was actually better protected from the sound than the neighboring establishments that night. Unfortunately this one in a year community concert is not under our control, and for guests traveling and booking with us from Monday to Friday and January to November this rarely happens. Only end of December can become quite hectic in Rundu town. Namibia can be silent for months and than one night it wakes up.....i hope...Tambuti can be excused for this.. The music you hear most of the year are the wetland frogs during the beautiful flood summer season and the nightjars..in winter.

The Lodge is directly located at the Kavango river. From all the lodges it is the chespest. 306 N$ for one person in a double room B&B. The rooms are nicely equipped with aircon, fan, TV, minibar, kettle. Clean and african design, moskito net, gaze against moskitos at the windows. Very silent with view over the Kavango and Rundu beach.Vwery beautiful huge gardens at the premises with papaya and banana trees. Food was good. Traditional african dishes. Prices average. You can sit under a huge tree. Swimmingpool area is nice. I enjoyed most the faboulos breakfast. Very traditional. Juices and jam, peanutbutter and honey was unprossed from the area. Everything is expained with pictures about the ingridients and cultural background. If you like to expereince the culturalrural life and its food you are absolutely right at that lodge. And it has an unbeatable prize. The omly annoying thing was the cats who ask permanetly for food and even jump on you if you dont give them. Nothing for someone who has a cat allergy. You can also arranghe some excursions like a boat trip from the lodge. But causion! It takes about 45 min. to find the place where the boat depart from.

Room Tip: Bungalows are all the same. If you take one fiurther down (Nr.4)you are closer to the breakfast rest...
