“Worth the visit.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2012

An excellent variety of pottery and ceramics from the region and other parts of Mexico. Very few explanations or descriptions, but worth the visit.

“A well-hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2012

Today we entered this museum while browsing in the middle of the artisan quarter of
Tlaquepaque, which is part of the Guadalajara conurbation of 4.5 million population.
The ceramics on display include winning showpieces dating back 40-50 years, and
collections of decorated jars and large plates in both traditional and odd sizes.
Of particular interest are the originality of the designs, the extraordinary variety of
colours, as well as, in one of the rooms, a matching collection of jars and tiles with
animals motifs (such as does) inspired from the Califal art on display at the Alhambra
of Granada. It was not the first time that I noticed the Arab influence on Mexican art,
and this particular room is quite stunning in that respect. Some tiles and jars even have similarities with designs found in pre-islamic and islamic Iran. The absence of signs
or explanations leaves the visitor to guess how this happened, even if the museum guards
are very helpful and quite knowledgeable about many of the displays.
Even better, I found later that afternoon that similar pieces to those found in the museum can be purchased at a store on Calle Juarez, for relatively reasonable prices.

Beautiful old homes converted into shops and museums, glass factories and restaurants make most of the main streets a walking tour pleasure.

A must see -- art is everywhere in Mexico and ceramic art is so detailed and each piece unique unto itself.
