“Practically Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2008

I have stayed in many hotels around the world; some five star and some offering very pleasant Bed and Breakfast accommodation. However, until now, I have never stayed in a hotel that is practically perfect in every respect.

The Club Maritimo de Sotogrande was faultless. From the on-line booking to departure, I couldn’t fault any aspect of the hotel. Check in was seamless, the room was just as described and depicted on the web page (quite unusual in my experience). All the staff, without exception were superb; attentive and friendly but not intrusive.

Room (222) was very clean and spacious, stylish and tasteful, with superb views across the harbour and out to sea towards Gibraltar. The bed was very restful offering just the correct amount of support. Lighting in the room was very well designed with dimmer facilities on the main room lights. Sofas were comfortable and well placed for viewing the stunning vistas. A superb collection of books were available in the room. Books you actually wanted to read! The satellite Tv worked very well, with a good quality picture, and had a good choice of channels. The spotless bathroom offered a spacious, powerful, shower; something essential to me.

The restaurant was another faultless experience. I’m vegetarian and the chef (obviously very well trained) produced an amazing evening meal at very short (5 minutes) notice. All 5 courses were freshly prepared and well presented. Dessert was just sublime; a home made chocolate pudding. I was sure that a mistake had been made with the bill as it was incredibly reasonable.

Parking near the hotel is easy with parking spaces around the perimeter of the hotel. There are a number of very interesting shops within the marina complex. The hotel also offers electric bicycle hire for sight seeing. I suspect the hotel could be very busy during high season.

Overall, I can’t fault this hotel for its accommodation, staff, food or location. I hope you have such satisfaction from their services. I have to assure you that I have no connection to the hotel or any of its staff.

  • Liked — Very clean and stylish...well thought out
  • Disliked — It was all fine. Possibly would be good to have a swimming pool

I had business in the San Roque area and stayed at this property on the advice and review from fellow tripadvisor JonHwick .

I decided to book the 2 bedroom suite as it was only 50 euro more than a regular room (199 euro total per night), 2 bedrooms, a living room and little dining area, a wonderful balcony overlooking the marina and "The Rock of Gibraltar"

Staff was pleasant, breakfast buffet was amazing, room and bed were adequate in comfort.

  • Liked — Comfortable, relaxing property, on a marina in a gated community.
  • Disliked — no pool

My wife and I stayed here with our 2 year old daughter, booking a suite as it wasn't much more expensive than a standard room. It had 2 bedrooms, ea ensuite, with a kitchenette, living room and large terrace/balcony looking over Gib/Africa. The hotel is boutique, chic and contemporary but not in an off-putting way. Everything is pretty new and well looked after, the rooms were totally spotless and very comfortable. The hotel is on a private marina which makes the environment very safe, clean and quiet - it's a really upmarket location. The hotel has very few facilities outside the room, particularly no pool or sunbathing area (which we knew before we booked). The nearest beach is ok, nothing special, and we felt, as a family, the hotel was great for a 3 or 4 day stay. It is brilliantly placed for exploring Gibraltar, Tarifa or some of the beautiful pueblos blancos inland.

It's a stylish hotel with beautiful rooms - both bedrooms and public spaces. The breakfast buffet is not massive, more small but perfectly formed. The staff are friendly and helpful but with less than 50 rooms, expect good service but don't expect the high staff-to-guest ratios you get at large 5 star hotels. We would very happily return.

  • Liked — Stylish rooms and public spaces, lovely marina
  • Disliked — No pool or sunbathing area

My wife and I stayed in the hotel for three nights in late August, I think the best way to describe the Hotel is to say it is everything it says on the website, we found the room (204) to be both comfortable and a little quirky, the bath is in the window, the staff were very pleasant and helpfull the service prompt and efficent, the menu in the hotel was a little limited but nice none the less, the downsides, well, the toilet is a very small room ! and we had some quite strong drain type smells at certain times of the day, other than that very good.

  • Liked — room service and views
  • Disliked — drain smell
  • Tips/Secrets — none
