“Accommodation 5 star Golf course 3 star because of the fairways & bunkers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

The accommodation was very well presented, very clean and everything provided with friendly staff.

The resort is great, gym, sauna, Jacuzzi, steam room, Ice bath was 10 Euros per visit but well worth it.
Evening meal top quality buffet 25 Euros including a beer or wine.
Beer 3.50 Euros with free bar crisps/nuts, coffee 2.50 Euros

Almemara golf consists of 3 loops of 9 holes. Alcornoques (Corks) Lagos (Lakes) & Pinos (Pines)
Greens were in good condition fast undulating and true.
Fairways were poor. I would say 50% of the fairways were bare or very little green. The Pinos being the worst.
Bunkers were very poor about 60% had very little sand or none at all.
2 practise putting greens one outside the pro shop very, and the other next to the 1st tee on the Lagos.
The distant between holes & each course is very long and hilly.
The chipping area with 3 practise holes was at the driving range which was off the complex about ¼ miles away.

Alcornoques is very hilly course with very undulating fairways and greens. Some holes guarded by water at the side. The 5th par 3 is only 127 yard but drop down 70 feet to a thin green.

Lagos like the name suggests has a lot of holes guarded by water with very undulating fairways and greens. The 7th par 3 is 180 yards, but you have to carry 150 yards over water.

Pinos is a mature pine course. With undulating fairways, tight holes with O/B’s, doglegs and undulating greens.

I found all 3 courses very testing (20HC) because of the design and undulating fairways and greens. If you get 30 stableford your playing well.

Trolley 7 Euros, Buggy 28 Euros, 18 holes should be 65 Euros around.

At £290 for 4 days bed breakfast, 3 rounds of golf, fights & transfer it’s a good deal

Thanks very much for your review.
We have been changing the kind of grass in the fairways around that period, thats why you saw the fairways with no enough density. As a golfer you are we know you understand we have to undertake this works in The course.

We hope to see you soon in our club, it is always a big pleasure to have high level clients like you.

Best regards

“A good course”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

Very good, fast, true greens. The fairways were a bit patchy, and the front 9 we played - The Pines- is pretty tight. A good test of golf.

“27 holes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

I just played 9 for reasons of time.
Enjoyable and challenging.
Good landscape.
You can consider this field as a mountain course.

“Superb location and facilities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

Six fellas on a five night trip had a fabulous holiday. The accomodation was first class, the golf courses were very challenging but a real pleasure to play, unforgiving at times but very enjoyable. The accomodation was very well presented, very clean and everything provided. The SPA, free to guests, was also great to use. The grounds around the hotel are exceptionally clean and tidy.
The breakfast could not be faulted for choice and the evening buffet, negociated at 25 euros per head, was also very good value for money. Staff did not hurry or rush us and for the money, you could eat all night. There is nothing we could really fault with either the venue, service or area.

“Great Public Golf Course designed by Dave Thomas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

Have used this course off and on over quite a few years and love it. It is situated quite high up in Sotogrande Alta and you reach it by following signs for Valderamma (Ryder Cup course) and go past that (very expensive to play on! So unless you are a top golfer you will probasbly give it a miss!) and carry on working your way up the hills to the Almenara hotel where you will find a car park for the golf and the caddymaster and a nice bar and restaurant called venteocho. There are three nine hole courses that they use in pairs generally so you can effectively potentially try out three different 18 hole combinations! However one might be closed at any one time depending on season, repairwork etc. All are situated around the Almenara Hotel and many holes have splendid views over the local mountains and the sea. High handicap golfers (like me) beware though many of the fairways slope sharply from right to left or left to right and positioning your ball on the centre of the fairways can prove challenging to say the least and if the local Levante or Sirocco winds are blowing this just adds to challenge as the courses are very exposed. The three course wander either through very natural pine and cork forests or past lakes and reservoirs so there is plenty of wonderful landscape and plenty of water features to attract your ball! The courses are generally very hilly so a buggy is pretty well essential.
