“Second Time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

second time to visit the place, the first time was June 2012 and the latest October 2012... both times we stayed at their Presidential Room # 1...it felt like coming home...

The beach, the island life, the locals and the staff all made us feel welcome, although the drive can be quite daunting, about 2 1/2 to 3 hours from the city, plus a 45 minute boat ride via the resorts private outrigger, you are well-rewarded when you get there...

being beach lovers, this has become our default long weekend getaway place...

food is good, maybe 6/10... plenty of good restaurants also around the area, snorkeling ( we have 3 kids 13, 10 and 8 years old ) and island hopping are the main attractions...

the only minor drawback we can say is the music the resort sometimes plays outdoors at night, i understand that some people may love pop music, but we'd actually rather listen to the sound of the waves...

we'll definitely be back again !!

It's a breathtaking moment as you approach the white sand of Bounty Beach by boat, travel weary and itching to feel the sand between your toes.

The island is beautiful, great reef, lovely people and a few good places to eat. The pool at Legends is huge and always fresh and clean. Our room was fairly basic but clean and we felt well looked after with friendly and well-intentioned staff (if a bit clueless sometimes...).

The food isn't great though with lots of things out if stock, much better to est elsewhere.

Diving with the thresher sharks unforgettable although please listen to your dive master when you go - we saw lots of people stressing the sharks with invasive body positions and camera flashes. It's a fine line between appreciating these special creatures and ruining their habitat and interfering with their lives to their detriment.

The hotel's one shortcoming is the staff are not proactive enough: I had to ask for my room to be cleaned and drinks were often left unrefreshed.

That said, the staff were always very happy to assist, were incredibly friendly and always smiling.

The hotel itself represents excellent value on Malapascua. It is the only hotel with a pool and it has cable tv, wifi in the rooms, and an open air restaurant/bar area that looks out on the beach and ocean.

I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel.

We went to Malapascua for diving holiday. I like the location of the hotel, next to the beach and a PADI dive center is next door. The room is spacious, enough space to put our diving gear and it has a balcony and terras. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only downside is their food. The breakfast is fine - they served the Phillipines' breakfast ( with corned beef), and western breakfast. None of them are good. The hotel is also closed by to restaurants and bars.

The only resort with a swimming pool on the entire island. It's true that the island offers an amazing beach, but during my visit, the tide was low and there was a swarm of sea urchins at bay. This made me so thankful that the resort had a pool. This is also probably why the resort is a bit more expensive compared to the others in the island in terms of room rates. However, other than the fact that they're the only resort to have a pool, their rooms are also a bit bigger and has all the amenities expected of a decent hotel. I know this for a fact because I also checked with other hotels on the island.

The resort is nicely designed but I think a bit expensive compared with other resorts. There are no tooth brush or soap. I assume paying at that price we should at least get these amenities included. The rooms are nice and with lcd tv and ac working. There is no hot water - terrible after a night dive! The only advantage is the resort have the only pool on the island and I think the pool is excellent. Anyway, the rooms are alright but the water for shower is a bit salty due to the island watertable being corrupted with saltwater. This usually happens when too much resorts are built on and island and every resorts draws from the same water source on the island. The resort do provide fresh water for brushing teeth. The food especially breakfast is good but basic and you can go back for seconds. During lunch and dinner we did not linger to try for there are other better restaurant. Did diving. Used the divecenter next to the resort called - fun and sun diving divecenter. Their prices are cheaper and the filipino guides seems to be more experience.

Room Tip: Don't expect too much. Otherwise it's ok.

Malapascua Legends is the only place in the island that has a pool. This was the reason why we chose to stay here.

The rooms were big enough. They have all the basics you would expect from a hotel. Hot and cold showers, modern interiors, lcd TV. For me, Malapascua Legends looked like the best amongst all the other accommodation options in the island.

Their service however still has room for improvement. I couldn't help but feel discriminated since I'm a Filipino as the staff would always prioritize the foreign tourists.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the first floor as walking up the stairs are sometimes tiring

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Malapascua Island is situated two and a half hours away by car and four hours away by bus from the city of Cebu. A barangay of the town of Daanbantayan, Malapascua Island takes pride in its world class diving spots and pristine white sand beaches. It is widely referred by locals as the "Boracay of Cebu." As a diving destination, Malapascua Island has become known for its beautiful coral gardens and excellent local dive spots, as well as further out sites like Gato Island, Monad Shoal, and Kemod Shoal. Monad Shoal is an underwater plateau where thresher sharks and manta rays can be seen on a regular basis. The town's name is derived from two Spanish words, "mal" and "pascua", which translated in English means, "bad" and "Easter" or bad Christmas. According to locals, the Spaniards named the island that way after they arrived there on a stormy Christmas. Malapascua Island is a promise of a great dive and a relaxing beach experience, making it a popular travel destination for local and foreign tourists alike. ... more   less
