“this place is excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2014

I have been to Malapascua several times within three years now and for me Ocean Vida is the best place to stay on Bounty Beach!
The food is very nice (including this excellent breakfast buffet!) and the prizes are reasonable.
The staff is very lovely and funny and the owners and the Manager are always around to help if you need any assistance.
The dive shop next door (Sea Explorers) is also a very good place and high leveled and the dive masters and instructors are really the best ;))

Room Tip: the rooms are all very nice and the ones with ocean view are just great!

Resort was ok...they didn't replenish towels (we only got a hand towel on one of our 6 night stay), bathroom quite simple, blanket not big enough for 2 tall people. When we arrived we were left on a big boat waiting for 40min for a little boat to transfer us the 15m to shore - the explanation we were given was the boat driver was having his dinner which seemed odd given they knew we were coming. On the positives, it was nice having a room so close to the dive shop (see my separate glowing review for Sea Explorers) and the view of the beach was great. Room was spacious with two single beds pushed together and had a large balcony. We took an upstairs room as TA reviewers had commented the hawkers on the ground floor were annoying - we didn't find them that bad when sitting on the beach for a few hrs every day so not sure this was necessary.

Food was average so we only ate dinner there once and a few breakfasts (we opted to go elsewhere and pay for breakfast despite it being included in our room charge).

Beach bar with beanbags and sun lounges was great especially for the 4-6pm happy hour.

Great to see this place up and running after the typhoon but if we visited again we would stay elsewhere.

It was a wonderful stay here for the first time. Staff are caring and courteous. I love the balcony with amazing view, just some terry and sheet was a bit worn, with little holes, but not complaint. Cocktails are so good with very reasonable price, tasty food. Especially say "thank you" to the owner, really takes care of every guest. Definitely will come back in the future.

Room Tip: Deluxe Sea View is the best

Spent 5 days there with my friend early Jan. Despite the devastation on the island, the owners and staff have evidently put a huge amount of effort to get the place up and running so they can continue to provide their staff with an income in this time of need.

We had room 12, a sea view room with double view, and I think probably the best in house! Away from the bar so less noisy. Room itself was fairly large, with everything you need but nothing more.

The staff were absolutely fantastic and Soren in particular made a huge effort to arrange our transport back to cebu when it became clear a storm was on its way and we'd need to get off the island a day early in order not to miss our flight.

I think the rooms are a bit on the pricey side (I think we paid $4k+) but we had such a wonderful stay I think it was worth it on balance.

Would highly recommend!

Room Tip: Definitely sea view!

Our first view of Ocean Vida was when our chartered boat dropped us right in front of the hotel. I thought this was strange given that there are maybe a dozen hotels along the beach, and when the European manager (Soren) was there to welcome each and every boat it became clear that he had made an arrangement with all the boat operators to bring customers to his door.

We were tired from the long long trip from Cebu (a tough 5 hour drive and an hour in a small boat in huge seas) so allowed ourselves to be coerced into one of the rooms at the back of the hotel.

Soren had shown us the 'deluxe' room facing the beach, priced at a whopping 4,700 pesos, which was close to what we had paid at the stunning 5 star Radisson in Cebu.

Our room was just about OK: hard to not tread sand everywhere as there is no paved area around the rooms. There was a safe in the room so that was good. The double bed was actually 2 single beds pushed together. The bathroom was very basic with pebblecrete instead of tiles, very scratchy old towels are provided.

Breakfast is a very basic buffet so I suggest you get there early as the more expensive items are not replenished after 9:30am.

Wifi is provided in the bar area.

In the evening we ate at the bar: excellent food and wine at reasonable prices. We chatted with the staff who were all friendly and professional, and all spoke highly of the way they are treated by the hotel's owners.

The next morning I walked along the beach and saw how the competing hotels' rebuilding efforts were going compared to Ocean Vida. Ocean Vida was fully restored, whereas most of the others were still hard at work getting back to business.

The hotel arranged a boat back to Maya for us: we agreed 1,500 pesos for the trip but when we arrived the price had increased to 2,000, plus the 40 pesos for the 1 minute transfer to shore and 100 pesos for the motorcycle ride back to our car. We were happy to spend the extra as the locals clearly need it.

We feel we made the right decision to visit Malapascuar as we wanted to see it off ourselves and support the community up there.

The hotel is located on a white sand beach, Beach lounges are available for hotels guests. We had a garden room, the room is ok, Breakfast is really nice with fresh baked croissants and breads. Eggs and omelets are available. Coffee is good. Fresh fruit juices. Hotel staff is really nice. The island was severely devastated by the taifun, you can snorkel in front of the hotel but there are not so many fishes because boats are arriving all the time. Lunch and dinner is also served and the quality is really good. The Ocean Vida seafood plate we really enjoyed. It is better to book the transfer from airport directly with the hotel. If there are big waves the boats do not stop at the ferry terminal. Complex logistic on low tide as well.

Room Tip: For our next visit we would select a sea view room. Garden rooms can be quite noise with all the rec...

Bad Food, boring Food and unprofessional cuisine, Ex: Watermelon Juice with many pip!!!
There are many cats and dogs on the beach, friendly around us, our boys liked it, but the man, manager of resort kick the cat many times, because he loves his dog! So surprised !
And very important thing, must be official respond!
When we came in by boat, 8 km, from Maya, we transfer to small canoe difficulty and pay so much over charged by porter in the port . We check out 29th Dec 2013, and we order resort Transfer, a boat with luggage handing included, 1500 peso total. I don't have any experience about marine weather, they said maybe big waves. But when we leaved, weather was so bad, the dangerous situation. My family were so scared, we need life vest. But No, they are just the local boat, no life vest !!! Later, they stopped outside and transfer us to a small canoe with big waves, and 2 young guys ask me pay charged for canoe!!! At the Port, after 45min terrible, nobody help us, and i was myself carry the luggage, although i payed already for Resort!
Resort Staff just sell service, and no take care guest later!
I need an official answer from Resort??? This is a big Problem. can not accept!
