“Crystal clear waters, golden sand - in the beautiful countryside!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

We almost missed going here due to travel restrictions.. but turned off anyway and glad we did! The domain is down a peaceful rural road, about 11km from the state highway. The total area of the domain is 538ha, with the three freshwater lakes consisting of 305ha. It was winter when we visited, so it was purely a sight seeing visit, but would make a fantastic holiday spot for spring/summer! The water was absolutely crystal clear, and the sand was a gorgeous golden colour. Around the lakes are various walking tracks - we saw a huge flock of quails! There is ample room to take a boat and do an array of water activities. Also on site are two campgrounds which can hold up to 500 people combined - however neither have electricity, kitchen facilities or hot water. Definitely a great place to visit - even if it is just to take in the beauty of the place!

“Don't Miss This Spectacular Spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

This was recommended to us by locals. My wife and I stopped for a picnic and a swim on a warm late-Summer day. Really peaceful reserve with nice tramps, washrooms, and camping. The beach is stunning - beautiful sand, you can walk out into the magical blue green water for several hundred meters and still not be over your head. What a magical spot - it's well worth an hour or two on your way to (or from) the Waipoa forest.
