The Trounson Kauri Park is a large conservation "Island" surrounded by agricultural land. The park has an excellent boardwalk experience through a Kauri forest. The forest is consider " younger" that the Waipoua Kauri Forest but is still very old in human terms.
The main access road is sealed and there is good parking area at the site. The circular boardwalk track is well maintained and there are interpretive visual and audio markers along it, plus place to just sit and soak up the forest ambience.
There is also an interpretive pavilion near the start of the track which fills in the story about the creation of the park.
Note that while the address is often shown as Dargaville, the park is actually quite a way North of Dargaville on SH12.
We greatly enjoyed the Trounson experience!
