Great hotel, good value for money, very helpful and dedicated staff, always ready to help with any questions, good location - within walking distance of the Citadel, modern decorated rooms - always clean, rich breakfast….staying in ERBIL feels like at home….

A decent hotel with a good location, the staff are nice but most of them do not speak English, but would do their best to help. The restaurant on the 6th floor offers nice views of the city and breakfast is good but the food variety can be expanded. Most important thing to note is that they do NOT accept credit cards, you have to pay cash. The hotel is family friendly but there is no bar and no Alcohol in the minibar. Overall good value for money.

Stayed here from 4 AM - 12 PM and loved every minute of it. Close to the airport, great breakfast options, and super friendly staff. The room was impeccable as well. They were also very helpful in arranging a long-distance taxi. If you are passing through Erbil and need a place close to the airport, go for it (price I paid was $120).

2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

Erbil, in Iraqi Kurdistan, is not a location where many tourists visit and write reviews for TripAdvisor. It is a dynamic and growing city, with many new hotels (and many under construction), but many westerners arrive on contract with energy companies or on government business, and TripAdvisor reviews are difficult to assess. This is certainly the case with BL Hotel's (sic), a new and rather small (about 25 rooms) Turkish owned-and-operated hotel, located in an upscale and growing area of town. Let me quickly say that I have nothing against Turkish hotels. Some of the small hotels in Istanbul are fabulous. Let me also say that there are some things about the BL Hotel's franchise in Erbil that are positive: the rooms are clean, the hotel is quite new, the prices are certainly cheap, there is free wireless, and the staff is helpful and friendly. But this is not a top Erbil hotel. Although there is a restaurant on the top (sixth) floor, it only served breakfast and this was pretty limited fare. There was, for example, no coffee readily available (only tea) and the food was basically local. More disturbing was the fact that, on two of the four days I stayed there, there was no hot water (the man at the desk allowed that his colleague "forgot" to turn on the hot water heater), and one other day it was lukewarm. There was no bottled water available in the rooms, except in the "mini bar", which consisted of a couple of candy bars and a few juices. A half bottle of water cost $4. The light over the sink in the bathroom never worked and there was constant construction noise from the building next door. Although my reservation from Booking.com stated that one could pay with Visa or Master Card, but when I checked out (in the middle of the night, when many flights leave because of the need to make connections elsewhere), I was informed that the Turkish owners insisted that credit cards could only be used until 10:00 PM, which caused a considerable row, as I had never been informed of this fact. If one is looking for a bare-bones type of room and is going to do nothing in the hotel but sleep, the place is clean and comfortable enough, but that is absolutely all. It is certainly true that other hotels that cater to westerners in Erbil are more expensive, unless one's company has a special deal. I had dinner at the Tangram Hotel, a buffet, which was truly international and excellent, but the Tangram is much more expensive on a nightly basis. There is a large number of Turkish owned-and-operated hotls in Erbil, many far larger and with many more amenities than the BL Hotel's. Another more preferred hotel is the Rotana, but again more expensive. In addition, Erbil is not (at least at present) the sort of place where one can wander out the door of one's hotel and drop in at a neighborhood restaurant. There is basically nothing at the BL Hotel's except the room and a limited breakfast. The reason I chose the hotel was that it was listed #2 in Erbil by TripAdvisor. That is a rating based on too little information. If one is simply looking to save money, this may be an okay hotel. If one is looking for more by the way of services and amenities in a strange city, this is not the place. I shall definitely be returning to Erbil in the near future, but I will not be staying at the BL Hotel's.

Room Tip: The elevator (there is only one small one) is used by the cleaning and maintenance staff and is freq...
