We had a great time at El Dorado Casitas Royale. We originally just booked the regular El Dorado Royale, but we were offered to upgrade for $100 a night and we decided to do it, and it was worth it. The Casitas are more private with larger rooms and a more peaceful beach and private pool. The meals were good, but I wish we would have known we had to reserve reservations at the better restaurants in advance. I would have booked the reservation before I arrived. Because we were only there for four nights, they turned us down for several of the restaurants we wanted to go do. I find this very frustrating because A) we spent thousands of dollars to go there and should be able to eat where we want B) more importantly, the restaurants were not busy. I saw tons of open tables and they said they "had an hour wait list", yet the restaurant closed in an hour. One of the restaurants sat us after we complained, but again the tables they had "reserved" never filled up and there were empty tables all around us. Make sure you make reservations in advance, and I would recommend the El Dorado revises their policy and makes it more efficient. If they say there is "no room" at a restaurant, then there better be no room. They should allow everyone to go to any restaurant as long as they are least ONE day in advance. I shouldnt have to book four days in advance for an all inclusive resort. We also did the Lomas Travel horseback riding and snorkeling in Maroma, which was a great time but a long day. It could have also been organized a little better. Only do this if you dont mind being out from 8am until 7pm, with at least 5 hours of "dead" time. They were two different trips, so maybe you want to do each on a separate day so you dont have to wait in between for the next one to start. Regardless, the snorkeling and horseback riding was very fun. Overall the food was great, the drinks were great, the rooms were beautiful, the beaches were beautiful, and the staff was super nice. A special thank you to Cesar at Bar 27 at the Casitas. He was a great bartender and a great guy, he really took the time to talk to you and make sure you were having a good trip. Lastly, thanks to Jennifer at the Tropical Travelers travel agency who did a fantastic job finding us this great trip and making it easy to travel!
