My husband and I spent our honeymoon at El Dorado Casitas Royale and HIGHLY recommended this place to other couples! We definitely want to go back for our 1 year anniversary! The entire experience, from arrival to departure was amazing. The staff go out of their way to make your stay unforgettable. The grounds were beautiful and romantic, the food was outstanding, and just to reiterate, the service was above and beyond what we expected. If you want the romantic, pampering type feel, this is your place!

Room Tip: We recommend the swim-up casitas...you just can step off your porch and swim right over to the bar a...

We had 14 amazing days at the 'El Dorado Casitas Royale', it all started with a few problems that were out of the control of the management. They were so apologetic, so much so, that I felt guilty bringing them the problems in the first place. We came back from an excursion one afternoon only to find that they had upgraded us to the next level up which blew us away.
We had a great holiday including some great 'Go pro' underwater footage of the marine life. The snorkelling is quite tame but so interesting. At one stage I felt like I was on a David Attenborough doco when I stuck my head in one of the holes in the reef only to find the local resident 'Moray eel' showing me his teeth and telling me to back off.
I find it quite incredible that they do not advertise one of their greatest local assets that any hotel could be lucky enough to be involved with - Turtles. Most nights when the great entertainment finished we would walk back to our room along the beach and join the local volunteer marine biologists that would be digging away on some obscure part of the beach to recover the eggs that a turtle had just laid, or incredibly, still laying. They would allow us to get 'hands on', under their supervision, even down to the release of the baby turtles that would have hatched that night - absolutely mind blowing - we wanted a great holiday but we got so much more. Even down to the Crocs in the mangrove behind the hotel - 'Jurasic park' or what...
The great friendly people
The amazing food
The immaculately kept grounds
The Gin clear swimming pools
We could not fault it....thank you Karisma for a great and memorable holiday

My new husband and I enjoyed the beginning of our honeymoon at the Casitas Suites. This was the best travel decision we've made a long time. The property is spectacular, the staff kind, helpful and pleasant, the food 90% perfect (one meal was slow and somewhat flavorless), and the service is impeccable! Yes, they have a sales presentation, but there is NO pressure whatsoever. We chose to go because the resort was so enjoyable and are now excited to be members of their resort! If you are looking for a relaxing, luxury vacation where you will not have to lift a finger, be able to enjoy the sunshine, rejuvenate yourself, and put some spark into your love life...this is the place to come!

Room Tip: Casitas Suites are more private and have more advantages & amenities, but are more costly. The...

My wife and I had a wonderful time on our honeymoon, enjoying a 2 week stay from 5th August 2013.

From arrival, we loved everything about our stay - the whole place is impressive, luxurious and has a lovely atmosphere.

We found that almost all of the staff everywhere were so pleasant, helpful and friendly, and made us very welcome. At times it was like being treated like a King!

We upgraded to the Casitas, which was worth every penny, giving us the benefit of a more intimate stay with a quieter swimming pool, beach beds to relax on along with butler service, and it meant that we were also given the honeymoon package and enjoyed candlelit beach dinner, spa massage, a room decorated with rose petals along with a chef's special breakfast in the apartment, and a nice bottle of champagne to enjoy.

As we stayed in the Casitas, we were able to book restaurants, which was a real benefit.

The restaurants were excellent, and the service overall was wonderful in them. You hardly had to ask for anything, your glass was refilled as soon as you had finished! The two D'Italia restaurants were a real treat, my wife loved the lobster lasagne and I enjoyed the delights of filet mignon. Kampai was another favourite, the food was delicious there also and we enjoyed our breakfast trips there. Jojos was a regular destination for lunch, again excellent food and service, they did an interesting selection of burgers. The Fuentes theatre restaurant was enjoyable, great food and very entertaining and something different.

As for drinks and bars, you are spoilt for choice. The bars offer around 40 different cocktails, many of which we enjoyed! Most of the bars stock top branded spirits. The martini bar was a classy venue with top drinks but be warned they are very strong measures! The bellini bar was also enjoyable, nice and relaxing with a good selection of quality bellinis.

We found the golf carts very handy and fun for getting around the complex and the drivers were very friendly.

The shows are excellent, we saw the circus show and the fire show, both exceeded our expections and were top quality entertainment!

I couldn't finish this review without mentioning some of the staff who made our stay so special. Carlos, the waiter in Kampai was a real character and had a great fun personality, and couldn't do enough for us. Miguel, the barman on the beach bar just outside Kampai was a great guy who ran the bar on his own and was always welcoming and lovely to chat to, plus he made super cocktails! Also we must mention Misael who was the barman at the pool in Casitas 27, he looked after us for 2 weeks serving up great drinks and also was so friendly. The beach butlers Alejandro and Ramiro too could not have been more pleasant or helpful, looking after us with drinks, food nibbles and always happy to chat and ask how our holiday was. All in all the staff were generally great and they made our holiday a wonderful time, but the ones above we remember in particular.

As for tips, there was no pressure for tips, the staff seemed helpful and attentive regardless and we found that a few tips here and there were appreciated, and we were more happy to show our gratitude as the staff deserved it. We would never have a meal out at home and not tip for a great meal so why would it be different abroad?!

Both myself and my wife can't understand some of the moans and complaints of other reviews, as to us the holiday overall, the complex, apartment, food, drinks and service we would certainly rate as 5 star. Hopefully one day in the future we would love to go back again.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, staying in the Casitas is a real treat

My husband and I were married at El Dorado Royale last year and had been counting down the days to return. We just got back from celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary about a week ago. This resort is incredibly beautiful and romantic. We were very spoiled as the staff worked very hard to get us back into the same room as last year in the 31 Casitas section. We were stunned by the elegant upgrades. This resort is truly beautiful and the amenities, such as the spa are impeccable (thanks Vicki!!). Be sure to book a couples massage on the beach...it is sooo worth it. Also book the Candle Light dinner on the beach. Between the sounds of the ocean and the heartfelt saxophone player, we were blown away.
The restaurants are beautiful and the food is amazing. We loved the Italian Casitas restaurant, the food is elaborate and rich in an elegant setting. The service is really what makes this place unforgettable and so special (extra thanks to Roberto and David for making us feel like the only two people there).
Cocotal was where we had our reception and anniversary dinner. I could not imagine a more sophisticated and romantic place. We reserved the same table for our anniversary and were absolutely speechless when we saw our table. They had gone out of their way to make us feel like royalty. The table was covered in fresh flowers and we did not have to order anything as they took care of every drink and the entire menu for our special day (thank you to Luis and our incredible chef!)
We also had several meals at JoJo's. The food was great, but again it was the service that put it over the top. Both Alejandro and Miguel were wonderful servers. Efrain was extremely entertaining and a joy to be around. When he says "It's my pleasure" you can tell he genuinely means it!
Our concierge was very friendly, personable and helpful. Allan was always around with a smile (beautiful accent...hello Allan!!) and took the time to check in with us daily. Christian was our go-to-guy for everything! So much so that I had to find his manager and tell her how much I appreciated him and all his hard work.
Las Olas is a delicious restaurant and swim up bar in the Casitas section. They serve great, fresh and flavourful food. Juan will make you any drink that you could possibly think of or want! We miss seeing his smiling face every morning and he is very good at making you 'surprises'. Be sure to look out for Irving. He delivers more than delicious popsicles. He'll be happy to entertain you with his magic card tricks!
Guacamayas is the place to be at night! There are tons of great shows and a variety of entertainment. The Fire Show was incredible! If you see Pedro at the bar be sure to ask for his "special" shots ;)
The room service waiters were so polite and always took time to care for us. Eduardo went out of his way to make everything more beautiful and special. Our housekeeper Maritza worked magic with the towels. Everyday we were delighted and amazed at her creative towel arrangements including fresh flowers... not to mention the room was always perfect!
We recommend this place (heaven) to everyone! The resort is spectacular, the food is incredible and the staff are exceptional, caring, genuine professionals. We feel that we have made several new friends. The countdown to go back for a third time has already begun!

Room Tip: We absolutely recommend the Casitas section with the infinity pool. The view is so pretty and they...

We found a beautiful property, nice people, and great service! The food was outstanding, as well as the drinks. There are 6 or 7 excellent restaurants -- gourmet indeed. There are 6 or 7 swim-up bars, maybe more! The entertainment was quite good, as well.

Room Tip: All the rooms we've had at El Dorado have been good.

Me and my wife chose El Dorado for our honeymoon after much deliberation. Regrettably it was a terrible decision.. It was the end of may. Apon arrival we had a couple nice sunny days, but then the weather turned for the worse. After a fun time in the pool and hot tub in a down pour, we went to our room and found it filled with water. After an hour of trying to get the manager to the room to have someone clean it up my wife slipped and ripped her finger nail off. Finally after telling them my wife was injured the manager came, only to make us sign a waiver saying we didnt need medical attention (not even offering us a new room). The following day we woke up to more water in the room, our toilet didnt work and we had no hot water.

The beach here is a joke! if you are planning on getting in the water bring some water shoes because sand at the edge of the water is nothing but broken coral. There is also a couple hundred "man mad reefs" (huge bags of sand with algae growing on them) about twenty feet out in the water. The beach was washed away years ago resulting in them building it with cement and covering it with sand.

The food here was so so.. Kampai was really the only good restaurant on the premises. The Italian place serves tiny dishes, with their own mexican spin on italian. Be sure to tell the bar tenders what alcohol you want or you will get rail drinks.

The servers and most bar tenders are very unfriendly and become annoyed very quickly. We stayed in the casitas which assign you a concierge. The two guys we had were very unsocial and not very warm and welcoming.

Please do not waste your time with this place. ITS NOT WORTH IT!!
