We could not have asked for more from Elisa and the rest of the team at Hotel Belvedere. It's handily located just off the main street in beautiful Torri del Benaco (though there was absolutely no road noise) - a short drive up the hill with plenty of private parking, and set in a large and pretty private garden. Our room was quite compact, but certainly large enough for a few nights. Our window and balcony faced the hillside rather than the lake, but enjoyed a lovely view up the mountain towards Albisano, and actually if you looked to the left you could see the cliffs above Lake Garda to the north. Perfect for relaxing with a drink and a book! Breakfast was plentiful, varied and served with impressive speed and efficiency - what's more, we were able to enjoy it on the outdoor terrace, which was just a lovely start to the day. Elisa and the other staff switched effortlessly from Italian to German to English throughout! We probably didn't make the most of the garden - some of the guests spent the day on the sunbeds there - but we did have a wander round the flowers and fruit trees, and were delighted to discover a whole squad of tortoises racing around their own little enclosure!
From Belvedere it was just 2-3 minutes into the pedestrianised centre of Torri, which is the perfect base for a break on Lake Garda and the Veneto. We visited a few of the other more well-known towns and villages around the lake and felt that Torri had more appeal than any of the others - picture-postcard beautiful, with less of the crowds that you fight through in places like Garda and Sirmione, but more than enough in the way of beaches, bars, shops and restaurants to keep you entertained.
We can't wait to go back to Lake Garda - and we would certainly go back to Torri del Benaco and to Belvedere!
