“Hotel with Bears”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

Stayed here in July 2013. Had a room on first floor opposite the Church. The Church bells start chiming at 6 a.m. however they do have a nice sound. The road starts to get quite busy with timber lorries at that time anyway. Our room was large and the bed comfortable. It was clean but needed some renovation as it was looking a little worn. The owners and staff were very nice, very polite and helpful. The evening entertainment was fun. The barbecue night was good with a band, but the food was pretty dreadful on that night. I thought the idea of a barbecue was that you could choose what you wanted, but not so, it was brought to you on a plate which contained a mushy piece of meat covered in gravy and onions and a jacket potato covered in a garlic sauce, which mingled horribly with the gravy, with a large sausage, piece of chicken and a salad garnish, none of which tasted particularly nice. However saying that the rest of the food during the week was excellent. The breakfasts were good too and plenty of choice. I could have done with less bears in the way of cuddly teddies in glass cases to a large stuffed bear in a glass case by the front door, with a story and pictures on the wall of how it got there. I didn't mind the bear statue outside or the statue in the garden, but please get rid of all the teddies and the monster by the front door. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: If you don't like church bells, then ask for a room at the back of the hotel.

Stayed in the hotel for 3 nights on a coach trip to the Black Forest. The owners were very friendly and made sure everyone was ok. Meals were very good, staff very efficient, polite, helpful and no waiting for our meals. They even catered for awkward guests without hesitation. Hotel itself was extremely clean and comfortable. Would not hesitate to stay there in the future.

I have just returned from a visit to the Back Forrest with a school trip. We stayed at the Hotel Baeren and found it to be excellent. The rooms were spotlessly clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was plentiful and good. Even had entertainment in the evening which was great fun. I would return without hesitation and would recommend the hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Our rooms were in the separate guest house. All very good.

first of my retirement coach trips to see beautiful sites of the world, many flight holidays previous. staying at this hotel was terrible,if in england would have been closed down, does not meet heath and safety standards, fire doors wedged open, food hygiene standard below grade.
after asking to be moved from room in the eves, 5floor +2 flights wooden stairs, very dark and claustrophobic.very degrading hotel, sat on log tables german guests one side of the dining room, english guests the other, small partition between.sub standard food for us. the german guests laughed at the quality
of food that we recieved, theres much higher standard.complaints ignored while continuing to speak on the phone.no drinks in rooms,no water on the dinner table, above average price charged for drinks.rude staff. this hotel should be taken of all tour companies books.

Whilst food was good, the rest a disappointment. Very small room with sink directly opposite the bed. Although my room was clean others were not so lucky with theirs. I was on a coach holiday and one poor person got very badly bitten as her room was infested with fleas. She was moved to another room and the previous room fumigated although the hotel owners would not admit there was a problem. Other fellow travellers found crawling insects on their beds. They have a sort of pub which is fine if you are a smoker but no good if you aren't. No lounge area to sit in, alternative is to sit in eating area. A buffet meal evening was spoilt by the fact that not enough food was provided as the other coaches staying in the hotel were fed first and not enough was left for our coach. Buff said.

Have just returned from a coach holiday with Shearings after staying in this hotel. We were welcomed in a friendly manner by the owners themselves. The Hotel was great. Clean, spacious and the rooms were generous sizes - some with balconies. The restaurant was a very good size, and the meals were very good portion sizes, with extra helpings if desired. In general, all the staff were very obliging and helpful, and we were even given a wave from the owners wife as we left.

The hotel below the average. The rooms very small, claustofobic... The owner very rude, impolite and vulgar!!! At the end of my stay he told me: "go away, I do not need your money" horrible place - I do not wish nobody to stay there...

Room Tip: Think twice before you book this hotel
