Stayed 5 days and during all 5 days the following items were not available on menu:
chicken wings, fish fingers, lime cordial for non-alcoholic cocktails for my pregnant wife, pina-coladas, Horlicks. Waited 1 hour 30 minutes for pizza. Sold me wet fire wood. No air conditioning in rooms.

We booked a chalet for a weekend at Sondela in October 2014 and we were pleasantly surprised at the comfortable accommodation. Quite private and well separated from others and was very clean. It was well designed and nicely decorated with contained everything one would need, but we felt that come summer time, the ceiling fans would probably not do and it would certainly need an aircon. In October, it was fine.

The chalet had two rooms with one on-suite bathroom and one other bathroom alongside the second room (single story) and plenty of cupboards and a very good kitchen. A very nice, large patio with good furniture with build in braai and we spent most of our time there, visited by the buck which could be fed by hand. They have tea, coffee, wine and wood in the chalet for you to buy if you need it right away upon arrival or need it during your stay. The chalet is partially serviced and the braai is cleaned every day. Our toilet was leaking and we had to call them to fix it - which repair lasted until the first flush.

Our check in was well handled with folks coming to our car to show us where to pay. There is a R150 cost per car for conservation which is very expensive when compared to other nature reserves.

There are very good cycle and hiking trails and game drives.

The resort itself is a bit confusing. It has a modern day spa, in a farm-like central pool/entertainment area with farm implements visible in the pen museum next to the more modern swimming pool. Visually, it is disjointed and unappealing. Quite alarming actually.

Chalets are far from the main entertainment area so you drive everywhere, but there is another smaller pool situated closer to the chalets. All roads are dirt roads and the buck and antelopes roam freely. A terrible bush fire which razed some chalets a year or two ago has left the immediate bushveld ugly to look at. The directions inside are poor.

There is the main restaurant which serves fairly good food in the main house, even if the service was slow. We also made a visit to the other eatery during our stay and they serve apricot jam with scones which was a little disappointing. Other items of the menu did not appeal and service was slow there too.

There is a fully stocked shop at the main entertainment area - it has everything, including freshly baked bread and bokkie food.

The security men at the gate rinsed our car of all of the dust on our departure on the Sunday - that was a treat, although we felt we had to tip them them all.

A word of caution - check the bicycle race calendar as there are many races held here which could prove a little disruptive.

We would certainly stay here again and would recommend it with highlighting a few concerns up front and timing of a stay. It is a bushveld experience coupled with a farm I guess. It is in 2km from the Bela Bela (Warmbaths) turnoff in an easterly direction. I do like the chalets and hope they will consider aircons. They already have solar geysers.

Room Tip: Chalets (one story) are good, comfortable, great patio, nice television, fans but no airconditionin...

We recently went camping at Sondela, near Settlers. The campsite was the most expensive i have paid to date, The campsite has lost its bush feel with most of the trees and scrub removed. Twice we requested maintenance to come fix a drain on our private ablution, yet they did not come. I then fixed it myself. Food at the small canteen is very pricey and the standard is lacking. On the last day before leaving we waited an hour before breakfast was served!!!
The game farm however is great, rest assured you will get lost on your bicycle as the trial markings are often lacking

My husband and I stayed at the Moselesele Tented Camp for 5 days between Christmas and New Year. The tented camp is delightful and the cherry on the top is the chef that is on hand to cook your breakfast and dinner, with food provided by oneself. It really was excellent service for the daily rate. The tented camp always has a manager on hand to ensure that your experience is exactly what you would like it to be. Sondela provides a wealth of activities for everyone. We had walks in the bush, numerous game drives where we saw plenty of game and a guided night drive. While I had a spa treatment which was fabulous, my husband did a quad bike drive. The staff, who are mainly students from the academy were all friendly, helpful and totally professional. Special mention must be made to Marck, Janet, Anifa (spa), Marnus and Dominique but many thanks to the back of house staff who make it all happen. On departure we have booked for a June visit!!

Room Tip: The tented camp only has four tents. I would stay in any one. There is a shared braai area and kitc...

We booked for a week in December but left after 2 days. The heat is unbearable and with no aircon in the chalet it is very uncomfortable. The living room furniture is not designed for you to sit it - uncomfortable is the only description.
Having to use the car to do anything or go to the pool/restaurant is not convenient. This is definitely not a place for an older couple without children.

decided to go caravaning with friends. Did a 1 hour horse trail through the reserve. Saw lotsa game. Also a 1 hour game drive. The guide was very knowledgeable. There is so much for the children to do eg the Junior Rangers, interaction with wildlife, bike trails, hot water pools. The list goes on. And for the parents it's just as much fun and relaxing. There is a spa - very professional. Lovely restaurants. Service is out of this world. Well done Sondela. You will be seeing us again

We had a fantastic weekend away with the family and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Makhato section. Sondela has great facilities and very friendly staff. The kids especially enjoyed the wildlife that would come up to our door to be fed
