As anyone who has travelled or lived in Singapore or Malaysia will know, hawker or street food is integral to the way of life. This is one of two places here on the Gold Coast that is pretty close to the authentic hawker style food that you get over there. The Prawn Mee soup, Fried Kway Teow and Chicken rice, are the highlights. These are dishes that you don't get at any old chinese restaurant.
We brought malaysian visitors for lunch today and they were very surprised with the quality, and the size of the servings. They had just visited Sydney and said this was better than what they had down there! So that is saying something. They ordered extra food as takeaway so that they would have something for dinner in Lismore as they make their way down the Pacific Highway.
Each time we've been to Fast Wok its always been busy, the food comes quickly, and we have never been disappointed. Another obvious sign that it is an authentic place to eat is the number of singaporeans and malaysians you see having meals.
As it is mostly outdoor sitting, it can get a bit noisy due to cars going past in the car park, and also at the moment, the cold winds can make it a bit uncomfortable. So ask them to put the blinds down if you can.
We travel from the northern end of the Gold Coast for our regular hit of hawker food. Something we haven't been able to do for the last 20 years! Thank goodness we don't have to go to Sunnybank anymore.
