“Peacful stay but in need of a makeover”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove for three nights recently while attending a conference. Check in was smooth and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room overlooked the expansive lagoon pool. I was quite surprised at how dated the room was. The air conditioning was so noisy that it sounded like someone had left the shower turned on all night. To have a bucket of ice delivered to our room (or any room service delivered) there is a $5 surcharge! I have stayed in many hotels around the world and have never experienced such an exorbitant fee for room service delivery! The breakfast was average. There was a long line up, and there clearly is not enough room to seat all the guests, so we were shunted off to another room to be seated. Overall, our stay was pleasant enough but the whole resort is in need of an urgent upgrade. In my opinion, there are better places to stay for that price at the Gold Coast.

My husband and I stayed 4 nights as part of a conference group - we were impressed by the comfort of the room (we were on the top floor overlooking the golf course) and the friendly staff - lots of smiles and 'hellos' as you were walking around the hotel and that's a really nice touch which is so lacking these days. The room was looking a little dated however the bed was comfortable - my only negative comment would be the soft pillows though firmer pillows may be available on request, I didn't follow this up. Buffet breakfast was great and we recommend their omelettes in particular!
Conference facilities and conference dining was all top notch, definitely worth consideration if you're planning a conference.

Visiting from UK our children suggested that we all spend an overnight at the Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove. The resort is located miles away from the hustle and bustle of life and the pace is definitely much slower and measured.

Staff are delightful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Our king bedded room was beautifully appointed and our balcony overlooked the lagoon and heated pool. The location of the hotel is adjacent to the marina where there is a variety of fashion shops and the many restaurants offer a great selection to suit most tastes if you don't want to eat in the hotel. A hotel buggy will take you to anywhere in the marina village.

Rumour has it that the resort will be taken over by Inter Continental at the end of the year. Let's hope they build on the legacy created by Hyatt.

We loved our short stay here and would hope to stay longer on our next visit to Australia.

Spent a week at this hotel, after a previous visit over 10 years ago. We found the gardens, rooms and general facilities to be of a very high standard. The pools are a real highlight, especially the beach pool as far as the kids are concerned.

The location, away from the hustle and bustle of the central Gold Coast area and on the Coomera River is fantastic if a quiet time is on the cards (warning - read on).

The Marine Villiage is a two minute walk from the main reception area and despite a number of vacant shops, does offer some good dining alternatives to the hotel. Try the Yacht Club, the food is outstanding and very reasonably priced.

We had a few issues and these were generally recovered well by management.

Firstly, we explicitly asked for a north facing lagoon view room at the booking stage. However, upon check-in were given nothing of the sort and then told such rooms only existed at a different package level. It was disappointing that this was not communicated earlier. Nevertheless, the Assistant Manager was very courteous and rectified the situation by offering the north room without the trimmings (Regency Club), which we had no interest in anyway. Big tick.

On another occasion an item of clothing went missing after being collected with pool towels in our room. The subsequent communication was poor and took over two days and countless unreturned phone calls for us to be told the item was not found. Recovery was made by a final adjustment to the bill. Unhappy, but appreciated the final effort.

Of greatest disappointment to us was the complete change to the amenity and complexion of the resort on the weekend. The resort offers Hyatt Club membership which allows non-staying members to use the facilities and pool cafe etc. As a result weekends and we presume holiday periods are crawling with quite a different patronage. It seemed more reminiscent of a caravan park than a five star resort. We saw many others entering the grounds through the Village and at no stage was there any hotel staff member checking people out. Clearly a bit of extra revenue at the pool cafe is more important than the overall experience of longer term, higher value visitors. Staff members also seemed to echo this view as they struggled to cope and service levels suffered during this period.

There were a number of business conferences during our stay and we found that these were a positive for the overall ambience around the resort. Though, it is difficult to say whether the resort is suited to your typical 4-5 star family getaway. Nevetheless, we'd recommend avoiding weekends in warmer months and possibly public holidays. This may all change however as the Hyatt has announced it is ceasing its management of the resort later this year. Hopefully the new managers might appreciate the potential of the place a little more.

Room Tip: Definitely ground floor rooms if travelling with young children. They open directly onto grassed gar...

This is such a great hotel.
We have stayed many times now.
I have another booking already and it is our hotel of choice for last minute travel plans to SE Qld.
We have stayed in club rooms and standard rooms.
The lagoon pool is a great draw card.
The club lounge is small but well stocked, and has a great variety. The breakfast buffet is one of the biggest and best we have seen. I have stayed at this hotel just to enjoy the breakfast buffet.
We will be back.
We are a young couple with no kids, but this is a great hotel for families, couples and anyone having a function or event.
Enjoyable for all really.

We stayed at this beautiful resort for 4 days on an advance purchase deal through Wotif. Good price for a standard room, but it was ground floor, no view to speak of, and was amongst rooms heing refurbished. As a consequence, tradies were banging away from very early on the morning.

Breakfast at the resort is also not worth it, with standard cost for a buffet breakfast $35 pp, or $25 pp if you book the night before. Bleedin' expensive if, like us, you only want some juice, cereal & coffee or tea! Best go to the marina village, just a short walk away, for a selection of cafes that do breakfast, at a much more agreeable price.

We were also disappointed that the golf courses within the resort did not mention or signpost that the greens had recently been cored & sanded, and thus like putting on concrete. Price the same of course!

Service is of a high standard however. The staff are attentive, courteous and very friendly. Also the man made beach lagoon remains a pleasant place to swim & relax. The resort grounds remain well maintained and attractive.

We would probably go back, but will pay for a view next time, and ensure the golf courses are in A1 playable condition first.

We were 2 couples staying on a weekend 2 nights out of school holidays. The rooms were booked at the same time however one room was overlooking the back of the parking lot and the rubbish bins. The other room had a nice view over the creek. We are all Hyatt members but we didn't mind as we did not intend to spend much time in our rooms.
We found the pool complex looked very nice but after settling in for a swim and a few drinks the sandflies/midgies near the manmade beach were so bad we had to abandon our plan. Anyone who is sensitive to these little critters is therefore warned not to sunbake around this area - looks nice but you can be bitten without being aware of it.
In the evening the hotel appeared fairly deserted. The men in our party enjoyed using the billards and having the place all to themselves. Cocktails and nibbles were typical Hyatt prices on the high end for what you got.
In all, we enjoyed our visit but I probably would NOT use this hotel again because we like using the pool at hotels but this one was not comfortable at all.
