“If you have kids this is place for you”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

Lots to do if you have kids under 12 but beware, they all like to start their outdoor activities early. Sometimes a little too early. Great apartment as far a size goes. We had a two bedroom with all the usual amenities and a large balcony. Lots of choice for swimming pools and the grounds were lovely. Underground parking was a bouns and also very convenient. Location is probably not the best if you want to be part of the Gold Coast action. Booked a facial through Reception and enjoyed it. Staff ran hot and cold. I just think it depends on who you get. I would not stay here again as my kids are in their late teens but for a young family the attraction is there.

Hi Deborah, Thanks so much for your review. I agree, some of the little ones certainly get up at the crack of dawn at our Resort. It must be the new pool slide calling to them in their sleep or the need for a big stack of pancakes for breakfast to get them through a day at the theme parks. I am glad you enjoyed your facial and I acknowledge your comment regarding our staff, which is an area we would like to see improved.
I think that you are right, our Resort has lots of facilities specifically designed for the younger family but we do try to give all ages value for money with our restaurants, adults only pool area, tennis courts and complimentary cinema.
Thank you again for your time, and we might see you back in the years to come with some little grand-kiddies.
Warm regards Melanie

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2012

We have just returned from a 5 night stay at Turtle Beach Resort. Overall we had a really good time - the kids especially! There is alot to like about this resort (the great pools and waterslide, the beautiful grounds, the great location, the high level of security, the underground secure car parking) but there are things that could be improved to change the experience of guests from being good to great.

Here are some things worth mentioning:

- we stayed in a two bedroom apartment which was a great size. The furniture and decor was clean but tired. It was on the third floor which was manageable for our 3 year old. Wouldn't be very accessible if you had a pram or younger children that couldn't walk up three flights of stairs.

- we were quite anxious about the bed bug issue upon arrival! Did a bed bug check when we first entered our room (stripped beds and checked all seams of the mattresses for black spots/bug themeselves) and thankfully no bed bugs in sight!

- we are not used to the sun rising before 5am! Unfortunately the curtains were paper thin and didn't block out much light at all. We had to erect blankets over the curtains to keep the rooms relatively dark especially in the early mornings.

- only one washing powder sachet and dishwashing powder sachet was provided. So would suggest to future guests to bring some powder with you or be prepared to buy some when you arrive.

- we thought charging $17 to play mini golf at the resort (which was also tired and in need of a spruce up) and $5 for tennis was over the top. We have stayed at other resorts that don't charge for land recrational activities for guests and expected the same here.

- it was hit or miss whether you were greeted in a friendly manner (or at all!) by resort staff. Some staff definitely needed reminding that if it wasn't for guests they wouldn't have a job! In saying that, there were also some very friendly members of staff (but still no where near the level of friendliness you get in some overseas resorts).

- the Rainforest Cafe was a balls up. Our one and only visit was a comedy of errors! No cutlery so had to wait 5 minutes for some to be washed, milkshakes were vaguely chocolate milk with a lump of ice-cream in it (don't think they were blended at all!) ... We had a room voucher to use which was part of our resort package - it seemed like the staff had never seen one before as they had no idea what to do with it!

We could put all these issues aside and still enjoyed our visit.

Room Tip: Get to the waterslide pool early (7.30am when it opens!) to enjoy the waterslide without the crowds!

Good afternoon saflinn. It’s great to hear you had a good holiday and appreciate your suggestions for improvements. Where we can, we do try to allocate lower floors for families with smaller children; it is not always possible but we defiantly try to accommodate as many requests as we can.
I am really glad your fears of bed bugs were alleviated but I appreciate your desire to double check on arrival.
Another argument for daylight savings!!! The sun is certainly an early riser on the Gold Coast but we are aware that some of the curtains are in need of replacement in individual units. Where it is brought to our attention, individual apartment owners are notified, and a request for replacement curtains is given to them. Most of our owners are more than happy to replace such items, however some need a little more time and encouragement to keep their apartments up to scratch.
As mentioned in the previous review response, some of our packages do include extra items such as putt putt and tennis, so make sure you keep an eye out for them on another occasion.
Thank you for your feedback on both the Resort staff and Rainforest Café, both of these areas will be addressed promptly to ensure our standards are improved. Thank you again for your great review of our property of our property, it is certainly appreciated.
Kind regards Melanie

Friendly reception staff, room basic but good facilities. Pool facilities great-about 8 pools. Be aware that the activities are not FREE, mini golf and tennis as advertised I assumed were part of your room rate but we were charged $17 for 4 clubs and balls. The Rainforest Cafe was awful. I was told awful by another lady we met at the pools but decided to try anyway. WOuldn't recommend. Tasteless, bland, waste of money, small, kids wouldn't even eat theirs. And not cheap.
Left room key in room and was issued another free of charge by helpful reception staff. Room walls could do with a wipe down and same with cupboards, they were both quite unclean but it is a large resort so guess the cleaners do not have much time. Recommended if you have the money to spend on the extras but overall I probably wouldn't stay again.
Pancake House a few blocks down is well worth the visit and very reasonably priced.

Dear Kamsav, thank you for taking the time to complete your review; I appreciate all of your comments both positive and negative and am confident that we can use your review to improve our services. I shall certainly pass on your comments regarding the Rainforest Cafe to our new Food and Beverage General Manager. He is very proactive and appreciates all feedback. Housekeeping will also be given your feedback regarding the walls and cupboard in your room; hopefully you had time to mention it to Reception (with the room number) so that we could follow it up with the individual housekeeping staff member responsible for your room. Throughout the year we do offer packages which include tennis and/or putt putt as complimentary so keep a look out for these when you are next looking to stay on the Gold Coast. I hope you enjoyed your Christmas. Kind regards Melanie

This is a nice family resort with very friendly and helpful staff. The resort has everything - tennis court, swimming pool, pinball machines and large recreational area etc. The resort is very big with lots of parking available.

I had a one bedroom apartment with kitchen, internal laundry, lounge and dining area. Decor is nice and clean - room is very spacious.

Location of the resort is a bit out of the way. It is not close to Boradbeach or Surfers Paradise where all the actions are. You really need a car as transport at the Gold Coast is unreliable. There is a bus stop at the front of the resort but not many people will use the bus to get to this resort from the airport.

Overall, this is a nice place to stay at if you plan to have a laid back and relaxing place with young kids.

Dear au_syd_traveller, I appreciate you taking the time to submit your review and am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay in one of our 1 bedroom apartment. I agree, all of our rooms are spacious, especially compared to some of the Gold Coasts high rise properties, which make them perfect for a longer stay. Although we are not located in the bustling Broadbeach or Surfers Paradise areas it does have its benefits for those wanting to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We now run our own shuttle bus with transfers directly to the two airports and theme parks which take the worry out of catching public transport. Once again thank you for your review and for staying with us and I hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you again. Kind regards Melanie

Dined at rainforest cafe tonight with my children and must say disappointed with everything, went to order and then when told I could not put on room account as I had paid bond in cash,I became confused as the waitress was quite happy to tell me to go to convenience store and buy tokens for dinner and then give me cash back as difference, obviously there is a till there so why not let people pay cash, next she told customer in front of me wait was 45 minutes,he had kids so he cancelled order, food came out for us in about 30 minutes which is good, but there is so much room for improvement in this cafe, management need to take note, especially with Christmas upon us

Got a deal on the internet site for Turtle Beach to pay for 7 stay for 10. We had stayed before however this time with the kids a few years older made for a more relaxed time as both kids could go to the pools on their own.
Staff at the front desk were great, friendly greeting and good details of where we were staying in the complex and where to park. We were in a different location and area from last trip.
Room was clean and tidy. Two single beds in one and a queen bed. Pull out sofa bed as well. Kitchen was good, all items need to prepare meals. We managed a cooked meal for 8 using the kitchen so not bad when you are not used the appliances.
Security is good in that the kids can not get out of the area easily unless they have a key card. The key cards are blank so if you loose it, then there is a less of a worry about your room being accessed as there is no details of the accommodation on the card at all.
We did find the double bed a bit hard but that is to be expected when not in your own bed.
One down side was that the resort now has billing back to the rooms for all services (except the electronic games in the games room) previous they accepted cash at the restaurants , this was a small issue as we could not send the kids up to the shop to get a drink or food with out an adult to verify payment. this was a case of the parents trying to get rid of the kids for 10 minutes for some piece quiet.
The resort has an adults only pool, lots of kids pools in two areas one with a slide. Movies playing at the cinema each day and night. BBQ areas, shared through out the resort. If it rains the rooms have TV with lots of channels to choose from.
The location is good, on the main road, buses stop outside the resort and plenty of shops / restaurants around the area. Only a 5 minute drive to Pacific Fair, about 40 minutes to Movie World (Traffic Depending). 10 Minute walk to the beach across the road. (Only 10 minutes as you can not cross directly over and have to use the traffic controlled lights up the road)
upon check out the stay again were friendly and ensured we had enjoyed our stay asking the questions as we signed out.
So overall from the kids it would be a 10 out of 10. The parents 8 out of 10. Just due to the bed and not being able to use cash at the restaurants.

Room Tip: Advise if you have small children or mobility issues and ask for a ground floor apartment. Makes it...
