This was our 3rd (and last) visit to Shuck. It started well with Sean taking our reservation in a friendly and polite manner, and continued when we arrived with friendly, attentive service. I'm not sure why everyone seems to rave about the atmosphere, but is afterall tables placed outside with some people walking past. The table setting is poor to say the least for the prices you pay at this restaurant. Butchers paper on the table, cheap cutlery and very poor quality wines glasses. Then the food started to arrive, the spanish plate ($29.50) was a good start although a little expensive and the salt and pepper angus was a very simple dish poorly executed. Thin slices of beef overcooked with snowpeas and broccilli and dusted with their salt and pepper mix. The mains came out next and this was the biggest dissapointment. The crab lasagne I feel has been left in the past. It is a rich creamy thick and heavy lasagne with pieces of crab shell left in. Then the snapper was served, wow, quuite possibly the worst dish I have been served in a restaurant that charges these sort of prices. The fish was way overcooked, the mousse had the texture of something your dog left for you about 3 weeks ago and the gyoza was undercooked thick and chewy. The presentation of this dish was very poor as well. I have to add that the maneger was very apologetic and the dish was taken off our bill. We didi not stay for dessert.
Overall I think their is way too much hype over this restaurant and if this is the best seefood that you can get on the Gold Coast, than I think the Gold Coast has a lot to worry about. Take the short stroll down to Beluga for better seafood and a better wine list or to even better stroll a little further and go to Chill.
