“Really tasty Spanish cuisine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

Today we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Alegria. Unfamiliar with Spanish cuisine, we found the tapas delicious. The paella was superbly flavoursome. Relaxed informal setting, very pleasant ambiance.

Only gripe : our lunch resulted from purchase of a Living Social deal, keen to try Spanish cuisine for an enticing discount. The deal advertised Lunch or Dinner for two including choice of 3 tapas, a paella to share, with jug of sangria. Value of $85. What we got was a single portion of paella to share (we verified this with the waitress). According to menu prices, the meal we shared would have cost us $50. This would imply that the jug of sangria is worth $35, in order to total value of $85, which is doubtful.

Besides feeling a little mislead or duped, with hubby not completely satisfied from portion, we enjoyed what we were served enormously. Would certainly consider returning for their Sunday special of paella plus sangria for $20 per person!

“intimate food bar”

Very nice tapas bar with a must try Sangria. Very friendly staff. Parking can be an issue but why drive when you can tuck into the Sangria?

“Good food but lacked attention to detail”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

We had a pleasant meal here on a Friday night. The restaurant was not too busy and the menu looked inviting, so we decided to give it a go. After waiting a long time to order (and a mix up over the size of the tapas portion we ordered) our mains came out. The Paella was cooked to perfection with plenty of chorizo and seafood. However, one person in our party ordered the mussels and was disappointed - though delicious (about 20 mussels still in their shells) there was no side so we had to later order breads to soak up the delicious sauce and be full from the meal. Would have been nice to be told about this when ordering. All in all, a delicious meal, but consistency in portion sizes across the board would be appreciated.

“Sanguine Sangria”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

Don't expect fine dining! Alegria is very casual and relaxed. Excellent Tapas - I have to go back to have some more fish - it was divine. The wild mushrooms were magnificent, and the white anchovies very yummy. The paella was excellent, and the sangria fabulous. All in all a good place for a relaxed lunch or dinner, without any pretensions.

“Could be really authentic Spanish!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

This is good "Spanish" food: some Catalan/Valencian, Galician and Castillian dishes of repute. Good Paella, chorizos in cider (Galician) and great fish dishes. We went for authentic Spanish and got it. However being in rather boganish Queensland there lots of Aussies eating overpriced non-Spanish dishes like fish and chips. Good God keep it authentic and get that stuff off the menu. Or avoid all that stuff and stick to the Spanish seafood and other dishes, they do them well! Service is slow when restaurant is half full, alot of gesturing was needed to get attention.

Good luck Alegria but get rid of all the bogan, average Aussie stuff on the menu, could be better.
